You're unsure if I am a loose end or a strand
that waits for you to mend or understand
A few words
"When we describe the Moon as dead, we are describing the deadness in ourselves. When we find space so hideously void, we are describing our own unbearable emptiness."
~ D.H. Lawrence

"Is the meaning of life defined by its duration? Or does life have a purpose so large that it doesn't have to be prolonged at any cost to preserve its meaning?"

"Living is not good, but living well. The wise man, therefore, lives as well as he should, not as long as he can... He will always think of life in terms of quality not quantity... Dying early or late is of no relevance, dying well or ill is... even if it is true that while there is life there is hope, life is not to be bought at any cost."
~ Seneca

"People will tell you nothing matters, the whole world's about to end soon anyway. Those people are looking at life the wrong way. I mean, things don't need to last forever to be perfect."
~ Daydream Nation

"All Bette's stories have happy endings. That's because she knows where to stop. She's realized the real problem with stories-- if you keep them going long enough, they always end in death."
~ The Sandman: Preludes & Nocturnes

"The road now stretched across open country, and it occurred to me - not by way of protest, not as a symbol, or anything like that, but merely as a novel experience - that since I had disregarded all laws of humanity, I might as well disregard the rules of traffic. So I crossed to the left side of the highway and checked the feeling, and the feeling was good. It was a pleasant diaphragmal melting, with elements of diffused tactility, all this enhanced by the thought that nothing could be nearer to the elimination of basic physical laws than deliberately driving on the wrong site of the road."
~ Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita

"It is easier to forgive an enemy than to forgive a friend."
~ William Blake

Nothing of importance, I don't think

I gotta remember not to buy Skittles anymore... even without the gelatin in them, they're still made by Mars. Plus the bag I got recently had a lot of flat ones. X| And... this.

I forget what this flavor was. Peach mango or something, I think.

This is my mini sewing machine that I have yet to use. I can't figure out how to get the bobbin with the yellow thread off...

I realize that this is a small picture, so it might be hard to see what it is. These are the bathroom doors in one of the buildings here. The men's one says "MEN" and the women's one just has the typical female restroom symbol.

It's just funny to me because it's like they're saying women can't read. :P

Hm... yesterday was a pretty decent day, I think. At dinner there was a mariachi band because it was a double swipe night, I'm assuming. (We get two meals maximum a day, and you have to use a meal swipe for each meal, but for double swipe nights if you use both meal swipes for dinner you can get something special.)

So... I believe they called it "Fiesta Steak Night" or something to that effect. In addition to the mariachi band, which amused me greatly, they were giving out sombreros to the double swipers and there was a little pinata strung up from the ceiling. No candy inside though, I've been informed.

The food was also surprisingly good. Usually the veggies/fruits here are deplorable, but they quite decent broccoli out. It was all green and lovely. :D (I've had less than pleasant encounters with the broccoli in the past...)

Today the food was.... alright. I ate more than I should've. They had spinach and cheese quesadillas out, so I took a bunch because.... I could. X| (When they put out good or decent food it's always tempting to take a lot because you don't know when it's going to happen again) There was also baked ziti pizza and uhh.... the normal fare.

Since we have Thanksgiving break next week starting on Wednesday, they're serving a Thanksgiving dinner tonight... or so they say. Hopefully it won't be disappointing... but in any case I feel like I ought not to eat that much since I had such a big lunch... :|

Wikipedia amuses me today. Firefox red-squiggled "quesadilla", so I Googled it to make sure I wasn't spelling it wrong, and in the process the link to the Wiki article happened to fall under my cursor... so naturally I clicked it.

It sounds very stern about the distinction between different types of quesadillas...

CLICKIES

Of course, Wikipedia is subject to change, so this is what it says:

"The Salvadoran quesadilla is not like a Mexican quesadilla. A Salvadoran quesadilla is a type of bread."

So uppity! :0 ("Don't you DARE confuse the Salvadoran quesadilla with the Mexican one. It's a BREAD.")

Not the best of days

No letter today, AND his stepdad called me up and told me that his parents were going to disown him if he visited me in California.... :/

That was quite upsetting, to say the least. Well, maybe less upsetting than horrifying.

The statement was later retracted, though. His stepdad called me again like half an hour later and said I was not at fault at all, and that I'm the only girl they've approved of thus far... but that they were still not happy with him.

-Sigh-

Even though they calmed down, the whole ordeal was still extremely stressful...

---Edit---

Wow, I realized that the way I wrote this post makes it so that you could misinterpret it as being wholly about his stepdad... that's kinda unfortunate. (But I'm still reluctant to use his name or say 'my boyfriend'...)

The early stages of robotic emotion [+1]

Exhibit A:

Exhibit B:

Removal of its lightbulb makes the robot wax philosophical.

(Sorry for the picture quality, by the way... the conditions here are less than optimal for the taking of photographs)

This is a haiku
In a few words it will end
See? I told you so.

---Edit the Second---

If I ever make a movie, the soundtrack will probably be composed of Flamingos tunes played in an echo-y tunnel. Oh yes indeedy.

I got TWO letters today, and it's not even a Monday! Happy happy joy joy. :P

He still wants to come to California (to spend Christmas with me :0).

I wonder though, if his parents will be okay with that? Or will they want him to spend Christmas with them...?

Today I did not do much. I went to class and was not late, and I took a nap. I had falafels for lunch, and a squash sandwich for dinner. The food was not the greatest, but I deem it satisfactory.

And now... I am going to bed before midnight, hopefully.

P.S.- I drew a picture of a robot. Perhaps I will post it later.

THE HOBBITS THE HOBBITS THE HOBBITS
Tuesday, November 10, 2009
I just made that the title to throw you off.

Mehehe.

I received a nice letter from my -boyfriend- yesterday, with a dog tag taped inside as a present. :P There was also a supplementary note included, with this truly sentimental message: "I can't wear it anyway".

He also informed me that he bought me a gift, which shall be arriving in December... what could possibly take that long to ship, I know not.

In non...relationship news, I seem to have gained a bit of weight as a result of not sleeping enough. :/ So now I shall try to get somewhere around eight hours a night... (Meaning I ought to be ASLEEP by ten; I'll have to go to bed earlier than that)

The food in Montgoris today looked quite promising, but unfortunately it was not all delicious. I had some of an odd pasta and squash concoction, which was unpleasant, a cucumber and cheese sandwich (strange, to say the least), pasta pizza (which tasted oddly of Spaghetti-Os, but was good in the end), disappointing honeydew, and broccoli.

Oh, and a handful of Apple Jacks. Gotta have that balanced breakfast.

All in all it was... too much food, I fear. X|

Oh, apparently if you walk around at a leisurely pace for about five hours you can burn off all of your 2000 daily recommended calories. Who knew? (I gotta start walking more!)

---Edit--

To ICE-engard! (That was horrific, I'm sorry)

The bottom shelf of the fridge one of my roommates brought is apparently freezing cold. Literally. It froze the water in my filter jug.

For some reason there are a lot of bubbles in the ice.

I know this is probably going to stretch this entry, but I had to make the picture bigger to show you all how AWESOME it looks.
