Can't you see what you've done to my heart and soul?
this is a wasteland now
A few words
"When we describe the Moon as dead, we are describing the deadness in ourselves. When we find space so hideously void, we are describing our own unbearable emptiness."
―D.H. Lawrence

"Is the meaning of life defined by its duration? Or does life have a purpose so large that it doesn't have to be prolonged at any cost to preserve its meaning?"

"Living is not good, but living well. The wise man, therefore, lives as well as he should, not as long as he can... He will always think of life in terms of quality not quantity... Dying early or late is of no relevance, dying well or ill is... even if it is true that while there is life there is hope, life is not to be bought at any cost."
―Seneca

"People will tell you nothing matters, the whole world's about to end soon anyway. Those people are looking at life the wrong way. I mean, things don't need to last forever to be perfect."
―Daydream Nation

"All Bette's stories have happy endings. That's because she knows where to stop. She's realized the real problem with stories — if you keep them going long enough, they always end in death."
―The Sandman: Preludes & Nocturnes

“The road now stretched across open country, and it occurred to me - not by way of protest, not as a symbol, or anything like that, but merely as a novel experience - that since I had disregarded all laws of humanity, I might as well disregard the rules of traffic. So I crossed to the left side of the highway and checked the feeling, and the feeling was good. It was a pleasant diaphragmal melting, with elements of diffused tactility, all this enhanced by the thought that nothing could be nearer to the elimination of basic physical laws than deliberately driving on the wrong site of the road.”
― Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita

I might nap after this...
Wednesday, September 2, 2009
Today was the first day of classes.

I woke up at 5:50 to get dressed and do all my morning prep, which really is only getting dressed and washing my face and sitting around for half an hour doing nothing important.

I met up with Saeedah at 6:45 or so, and we went to our first class (which we have together).

Discover New York starts at seven in the morning. D: There were people waiting outside the classroom so we just kind of stood there and waited. We were all asking each other if we were supposed to go in, because there were all these other people inside already and they looked like they had been in there for a bit.

Turns out that they just got there earlier than us, so we went inside and sat down and got some papers. I'm really sleepy right now.

That intense-looking dancer guy is in that class. Unfortunately I didn't learn his name because I DID NOT GO INTO THE CLASSROOM EARLY ENOUGH. D:

Anyway, second class: Psychology

We have this option to either participate in a psychological experiment or write a paper.

Hell, I would participate in an experiment even if it wasn't required. It sounds mega fun. :0

A girl told me that the teacher isn't very good though. We'll see...

Third class: Emergence of Global Society

Seems rather uninteresting so far. I mean, it's just the first day of course, so I can't make any real judgements, but ehhh....

One of my roommates is in the class, too.

I have like, a long break between my second and third classes on M/W/F, so I was sitting with Casey around the Great Lawn and we were just chatting. She left though, to go put some stuff in her room, so I talked to this guy from my Orientation group, who, not surprisingly, did not remember who I was. Ah well.

He's a commuter, so the chance of us being friends is low. Not trying to say I don't like commuter students or anything, but we don't have any classes together and the commuters don't hang around the campus except for their classes, so really.... like I said, low chance.

I am seriously so sleepy right now. Last night I was hanging with Casey and Saeedah in the latter's room, which is freakin' luxurious in comparison to mine. Videochatted with Alice, participated in shenanigans... you know, the usual.

They have pretty good pizza here, but otherwise the food isn't that great overall.

Going to go... sleep.... blah....

[Going to download Kodak Easyshare so I can get some pictures up, but until then it's just text entries]

---Edit---

OKAY, PICTURE TIME. :D

Um, the Statue of Liberty from the boat we went on.

Woo, leaky mozzarella sticks.

My croissant this morning was horrible, so I shredded it.

There's Casey on the right, and then the guy I talked to on the left.

End!

Doing laundry in this sucky, but at least free, laundry room in the basement-type thing in the dorm.

First problem: my detergent leaked. D:

Second problem: you can only get here by elevator, and the elevator is slow as hell.

Blah.

Guys, I don't like it here.

A horrible icebreaker
Saturday, August 29, 2009
Well, my friendships with Casey and Saeedah seem to be going well. Lulu and Amanda are still more like friendly acquaintances.

I'm a little intimidated by my roommates, seeing as they're both like... a lot taller than me and probably know more about New York than I do. Hopefully things work out? I really want to move to Saeedah's room if her second roommate doesn't show up, because then I won't have to share a single bathroom with six other people. (Girls who actually prep for stuff D:)

Tonight we had to attend a really crappy icebreaker. We had to run around on the soccer field and do random crap, and it was just.... really stupid. It didn't even help me get to know anyone, it was just shallow, meaningless talk. So..... I ditched with Casey, after a while.

Casey's pretty cool. :) We have some stuff in common, so that's great. There wasn't really anything to do tonight, so we just wandered around with Saeedah and tried to find something interesting. There was nothing. X|

All the stores around here are like.... eateries and supply stores. There aren't any fun places. D: Barnes and Noble wasn't open..... it was tragic.

OH, but I did get to see the laundry room, finally. And I sat in the ice um.... box? That freezer thing where they keep bags of ice. It was pretty comfy. :P But then the door was hard to open so my friends had to help me with that.

Tomorrow there's going to be a shuttle to Bed Bath and Beyond, so I gotta go get some shampoo and stuff. Funnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

Well, I'm not in California anymore
Friday, August 28, 2009
I guess I'm going to live in New York for at least a year, now. :/

[Silver, wanna hang out?]

Orientation is going alright, so far. I've made five new friends... I think... One of them doesn't seem to like me that much.

Yesterday there was a dance, and a lot of boring crap that lasted all day long. There's a cute guy in my orientation group, but he keeps ditching...

I don't know what to do for dinner. The orientation leaders kind of left us on our own for that today. My mom left to go back to her hotel, so I'm sort of stuck here........... :|

Anyway.... I'm really too depressed to write much. I'm webcamming with Varsha on the new laptop, but there isn't a whole lot to say besides that.

Wow, talk about thick
Monday, August 24, 2009
[Insert 'that's what she said!' here]

But anyway.

Went shopping today for more dorm stuff, and we spent a lot of time at Bed Bath and Beyond, kind of checking out the bedding and stuff. Since we waited until so late to go though, they were pretty much cleaned out. Actually, every BBaB everywhere is supposedly cleaned out, as far as certain items are concerned. Wow?

We got a pillow and a sheet set. Fun stuff.

And then..... Costco, where I got a new iPod. :0 Unfortunately I can't use it until I get to New York, and I have to figure out how to transfer my library from here to there. :S

Okay, and this is the most important part now.... After Costco, we went to Jamba Juice. And there was a really cute guy working there. :D He looked kind of like the way Hatticus used to look, except he had glasses and seriously, he was pretty cute. Heh.

The lady before me got her smoothie not long after I ordered mine, so I was kind of waiting by myself for a bit. (My mom went to Starbucks) I was just standing there and the guy says "hey, look at this," then holds the blender upside down. It was like in those commercials for the mega-blenders where the stuff is so thick it just sticks in the blender. I laughed, partially because it was so jammed in there, and partially 'cause he had this goofy look on his face and DID I MENTION HE WAS CUTE?

Yes, so, that is my news for today.

Fatigue.... I should be asleep
Friday, August 21, 2009
My mom woke me up at seven fifty this morning. She said I had to go the the Academy of Science because my brother pulled an all nighter and was too tired. I grumbled (a lot), but showered and dressed.

The instant-- the INSTANT-- I finished, she knocked on my door and said I didn't have to go after all.

Well, screw that, I said. I had gotten ready, I was going.

So I went. And took some pictures. Have not uploaded them yet.

Did I mention I went to sleep around three, four last night? Yeah.

And my iPod won't sync because it's not charged enough and the computer won't charge it anymore. Grrrrrrr. >:(

---

Angie: you'll probably end up writing a book
Angie: and it'll be famous for being weird
Angie: and when people say they like it, they'll feel really unique
Angie: and nonconforming
Angie: and it turns out someone just recorded all of your drunk ramblings
Angie: turns out it was me
Angie: why was i recording your drunk ramblings?
Angie: because i could

" I WAS KIDDING, STUPID." Hahahaha. :P

Going back through my old entries is taking a long time. It's nice to reminisce, though. :)

I have a baby headache right now....
