You're unsure if I am a loose end or a strand
that waits for you to mend or understand
A few words
"When we describe the Moon as dead, we are describing the deadness in ourselves. When we find space so hideously void, we are describing our own unbearable emptiness."
~ D.H. Lawrence

"Is the meaning of life defined by its duration? Or does life have a purpose so large that it doesn't have to be prolonged at any cost to preserve its meaning?"

"Living is not good, but living well. The wise man, therefore, lives as well as he should, not as long as he can... He will always think of life in terms of quality not quantity... Dying early or late is of no relevance, dying well or ill is... even if it is true that while there is life there is hope, life is not to be bought at any cost."
~ Seneca

"People will tell you nothing matters, the whole world's about to end soon anyway. Those people are looking at life the wrong way. I mean, things don't need to last forever to be perfect."
~ Daydream Nation

"All Bette's stories have happy endings. That's because she knows where to stop. She's realized the real problem with stories-- if you keep them going long enough, they always end in death."
~ The Sandman: Preludes & Nocturnes

"The road now stretched across open country, and it occurred to me - not by way of protest, not as a symbol, or anything like that, but merely as a novel experience - that since I had disregarded all laws of humanity, I might as well disregard the rules of traffic. So I crossed to the left side of the highway and checked the feeling, and the feeling was good. It was a pleasant diaphragmal melting, with elements of diffused tactility, all this enhanced by the thought that nothing could be nearer to the elimination of basic physical laws than deliberately driving on the wrong site of the road."
~ Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita

"It is easier to forgive an enemy than to forgive a friend."
~ William Blake

The thing in my garage
Tuesday, June 9, 2009
Is scary, so scary. I can only imagine what the other props will look like...

:(

While we waited to get our yearbooks (Angie and I couldn't get them on Thursday like Lucy and Varsha, so we had to wait an hour and a half or so today after grad practice :/) Varsha modeled for Lucy.

Lucy, Varsha, and I decided this was the best.

Signing yearbooks.

TAKE THAT, SYSTEM.

We hung out at my house afterwards, and I made some potatoes. I don't have any pictures of that because... they're just fried potatoes, so really it's not very interesting unless you're totally into food porn. And even then it would be like the slightly-less attractive person who's only doing porn because they really need the money.

Uh... anyway. We watched half of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang before they left, and that was alright I guess.

I dunno why but I keep eating bananas. Like, suddenly they seem to taste really good. Not that I ever disliked them, but usually I don't want to eat them. Just a thing, y'know?

Maybe I'm just low on potassium or something.

It's all over
Saturday, June 6, 2009
It's all over, there isn't any more
It's all over, but what's it over for?
Just when you think the party's starting
It's over, it's over
It's over, it's over
It's over

We walked home together, Christina's arms around my and Varsha's necks. Waiting in line to get a ticket for my cap and gown, and then the cap and gown themselves, had been tedious. I did see Nameless though.

I couldn't help but wonder if I should feel something. Everyone else seemed to want to celebrate our last day of high school, -real school, with classes and bells and homework-, by hanging out and partying. I just wanted to go home and sleep.

At school I had signed some yearbooks, though none of the things I wrote really meant anything, I think. This year I hadn't bothered attempting to write much; instead I'd drawn little faces.

And the words resonate through my mind: it's over, it's over, it's over.

At my house we ate some food and relaxed. Christina left after a while, and Angie and Lucy arrived.

We drove to Safeway and bought Otter Pops. Then, after having stowed them in my freezer, we walked to the library and checked out What's Eating Gilbert Grape?

I suggested we show Lucy and Varsha the fort we had discovered before. We walked along the dry creekbed to it, but the experience was not as exciting as the last time.

We didn't stay long at the fort, having had no desire to bathe in the insects and rat leavings we found.

The walk back to my house was uneventful.

What's Eating Gilbert Grape? was amusing, though Angie had said it was sad. After the movie none of us knew what to do. We browsed some things on the internet, but my friends eventually left.

And finally I could sleep.

The Jungle
Thursday, June 4, 2009
I tumbled through the jungle in a whirlwind of sound
And when the winds let go of me I knew not what I'd found
Yes there were trees, and birds and beasts, and Nature all around
And a lion who, with gold locks, was elegantly crowned

It was the heart of Wilderness, and that much I could see
But what are plants and animals to humans such as me?
"Where are the streets and stores and lights?" I asked, incredulously
"We much prefer," the lion said, "our savage liberty."

I tried to ask how he could talk, and surely you would too
But then he went and ate me up, for that's what lions do.
