It's a day after New Year. And I seriously never thought of starting the second day with anguish. No big deal actually. Just got kinda pissed with some people behind the tv. Why? You see there is not many gossips about the local entertainers in Malaysia. They somehow lead a very quiet life though some did make the headlines but they were never as huge as how the US artists created. But recently the media [and definitely someone] tried to imitate the Hollywood style: make a mountain of a mole hill off someone's privacy or even some anguish matters. But in my context is out of someone's happy event. I got no grudge against weddings and such. But is it necessary to air some local artist's wedding on tv and interviewing people behind the scene? Is it necessary to exaggerate an artist's wedding just to exhibit how grand one's wedding is? If yes, it's none of our business!! Why not use the money budgeted for the filming of the wedding to help people who really need financial help to put food on the table for the kids? Especially in this dire times where there are some people out here in Malaysia got retrenched... why want to show this kind of program to people where the main worry is what to eat next? People who have financial woes just don't care what these artists wore or eat during the wedding reception. This kind of program doesn't enligthen our soul but only breeds anguish and worries and the thinking of why life is unfair. Where is hope? Would it influence our future generation that being a celebrity is the answer to everything in their life?

Oh well, I might have just been too critical but I thought my concern is legitimate.

So who is the unlucky artist kena(Manglish for been) stepped by me? Here is a coverage of them. I repeat I got no grudge againts them. I only againts those people whose idea is to show us stupid programs like documenting some celebrity's wedding to the audience.

New Year

Good lord. It's just another damn boring day. I'm getting frustrated because I have lots of resolutions since 2006 that I have not achieved. I'm renewing it and by hook and crook I want half of it to be achieved this year. So at the mean time, a haiku for today:

New Year
no more fireworks
just another day

Kuih Bengka/ White Rice Cake

I love eating this kuih/ snack.

200g rice flour
100g green pea flour
2.3 litres coconut milk
300g sugar
3/4 tsp salt
3 pandan leaves, knotted

1. Lightly grease a 23cm square baking tray and preheat oven to 180C.

2. Combine rice flour with green pea flour and coconut milk in a mixing bowl. Strain the mixture into a non-stick saucepan. Stir in sugar and salt and add the pandan leaves.

3. Cook and stir continuously over low heat for 5-6 minutes until batter is smooth. Remove the pandan leaves.

4. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking tray. Bake the kuih for an hour or until the surface is dark brown. Halfway through, turn the tray round for even baking.

5. Cool the kuih completely before cutting into slices.

Note = Apparently I heard there's grade of green pea flour. If your kuih doesn't have good texture or it just look weird, it could be the rice or the green pea flour. My friend was telling me that the best green pea flour can be found in Penang, Malaysia.

But don't let this hinder u! Trust me. This kuih is absolutely good.

You'll need:

10 king bananas/ large bananas (peeled off skin and spooned lemon juice over)
4-6 tbsp ghee

200ml full cream evaporated milk
1/2 tsp instant jelly powder
1 tbsp custard powder
1/2 tsp fruit essences

150g brown sugar
2 tbsp honey
50ml water
1 strip of pandan leaf

1. Heat ghee and fry banana one by one and put on a serving plate.

2. Sauce: Mix all ingredients and boil until thick. Always stir.

3. Syrup: Mix all ingredients and thicken over medium heat. Set aside until cool.

4, When serving, pour sauce and syrup on top of bananas.

Rich Chocolate Pudding

I have made a similar recipe to this and it's really yum and rich in chocolate. But the recipe I used only used egg yolk but this use whole egg. But I guess the texture and taste would be similar. This is a perfect recipe for dessert.

You'll need:

250g cooking chocolate
5 eggs
100g butter
180ml milk
1 tsp vanilla essence
Fresh strawberries

1. Chop chocolate and put into bowl with butter ad milk. Place bowl over boiling water to melt chocolate.

2. When it has melted, put aside to cool down. Add more milk if it's too thick.

3. Add eggs, one by one, to the cool chocolate stirring continuously. Then pour into ramekin moulds or espresso coffee cups. Steam on high heat for 15 minutes.

4. Remove and allow to cool slightly. Decorate with strawberries or ice cream. To serve cold, simply ut pudding in refriegerator for 1 hour.

Note: You can try putting in the freezer too but not for too long.
