I was in the mountains
Thursday. 11.20.08 6:51 pm
I think I've already said that my friend Jordan has a mountain house retreat in Sparta, NC that he's taken me to before. It's a house on top of a huge winding road with a few acres for shooting or dirt biking (shooting clay targets and old PCs, FYI) and a small river.
It was fun last time with 5 guys, but last weekend I went with 8 other guys. Most of which were on swim team. We only had 6 bikes and a few guns, so we spent more time hanging around or climbing the tower. At night, we watched the original (Korean?) Asian version of Shutter. It was so much scarier than the American version. It actually disturbed me. And made me jump a few times. My leg hair grew an inch that night, just from the goose bumps. Then we watched Forgetting Sarah Marshall, complete with Jason Segal penis (oh dear Lord). And then Dead Silence the next night, which was a little bit surprising but utter trash over all. And then we turned on Talledega Nights, but turned it off 25 minutes later because it was stupid and we were all dead tired.
It was amazing. John has THE funniest quotes EVAAARRRR.
We were sharing a couch for the movies (don't ask) and I found a spider in the blanket. We were all crowded around looking at it, and John JERKS THE BLANKET AND LAUNCHES THE SPIDER ON ME. I backed up off the couch and looked around for it very quickly.
"It's on your shirt! Dude, I'm not kidding, it's on you- OH MY GOD IT'S GOING DOWN YOUR SHIRT!"
That shirt was gone. I don't like poisonous creatures cramped against my bare skin.
I found it on the floor, and trapped it in the space under a can of Cherry Lemon Sundrop. Jordan, armed with a large candle, went in for the kill.
"Is it under there? Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I'm sure. It didn't go anywhere."
Jordan lifts the can and lowers the candle in one motion. He slowly picks it back up to check the bottom...
...and there's no spider. Nothing on the floor.
I about died laughing because ALL the guys in that room started yelling and jumping around. It was fantastic.
More later, maybe.

About passing notes: Today, David and I finished a huge test in English about the same time, and we sit near each other, so we started a note conversation. It was rad. (Don't ask what we talked about, we're both geeks.) The teacher saw me writing on it, and glared at me for a while, but didn't say anything. I think she was just worried about me communicating with people still with a test. Haha, David and I WOULD be the only two she lets pass notes.
I saw this bulletin on myspace and just had to do it. Heheheh. My teachers and I have an interesting relationship.
Thoroughly pleased with everything, right now.
What a timely coincidence!

One of the worst things about Creative Writing is that I am FORCED to write. And it can't just be little tidbits here and there, like I usually do, but it has to have "strong plot and characterization" and "show-not-tell" and stuff. What if I just want to explore a cool concept? What if the details detract from the story? Personally, I always find myself skipping the descriptive paragraphs in stories, unless they're important to the understanding of what's going on. Because that's all I care about: what's going on. Not how it looks.
Meh. I especially dislike having to come up with a short story outline off the top of my head, over night.
HOW COINCIDENTAL (no, seriously, it is) that I happen to have written...something...over the summer that I was planning on submitting to the school magazine. And it just fits the page requirement.
All I need to do is tweak it, so as to fit into her "COMMUNIST EVIL TERRIBLE BOX" (Katie is simply amazing) and extend the pages a bit. Even then, she'll probably smack me with it. But I don't care, because I like it a lot, and that's that.
