I think I've solved one of my problems
Saturday. 10.7.06 12:28 pm
by sleeping for about 12 hours. I feel fresh. Heh. And it seems that Kendal is actually thawing out. Yesterday I went to eat lunch for the first time all week, and I was kind of forced to sit next to her like I used to. It was still pretty ackward, but I asserted myself into the conversation, and things went pretty well. Her friend Hannah is actually being nice to me again, and I think that if Kendal tried to drive me away Hannah would stand up for me. Which is pretty cool, because I'd been thinking about it as all of her friends against me, because my friends don't want to get in the middle. So now I have an ally, Hooray! We started talking about how at our middle school we had a Ms. Roberts who was an intern to our Band director, and Ms Roberts who was the computer teacher. Pooter Roberts had a missing elbow, (It was shot off when she was a kid.) and she was really cool. Sometimes she'd bend her arm back. Haha. But Band Roberts, well, she was pretty cool, but nobody really liked her. We're not sure why, but she had a way of conducting that reminded everyone of a bird trying to lift off. Back to the table. Micheal, one of the coolest dudes ever, was imitating Band Roberts' way of conducting for Kendal's sake. (She'd left school early last year in favor of homeschool, so she never met the Bird Lady.) Sydney the Stupid, who never ever seems to be right, says "You mean the computer teacher?" When one of Micheal's arms started waving around uselessly over his head, nobody could stop laughing. I liked that lunch. And now I only have one project due for Mr. Archie, (May His Head Explode,) as apposed to the two or three that I had earlier this week. *Sigh*

Update 10.10.2006, 4:44 PM
Last night Kendal called and we had a good long conversation. Today at lunch (the ever powerful lunchtime) she seemed especially chipper and I summoned the nerve to steal one of her fries, which is something I haven't done in a while. It's like this whole drama never happened. Which is fine with me, I'm not going to ask her about it again until things are deffinitely cooled down again. Girls will be girls, I guess.

I AM BORED
Wednesday. 10.11.06 6:24 pm
I am blogging for the sake of blogging. Nothing much to say. Kendal and I are cool again, I guess. (I haven't crossed the line to obssessing yet, have I? Lol.) I'm over here putting words to a book my friend and I drew for schol, and I'm having lots of fun with it. OH! I had a weird idea this morning before school, so I'm actually making a video. When it stops branching out I'll publish it, bloopers and all. It's kind of weird, so it's only funny if you have an open mind. It starts with me brushing my teeth in the morning, and who knows where it will go from there? I'll update you guys on it's progress.

Updates about my movie have been sent to my newest writing, "Movie Outline"

Go See.

Third's a charm.
Sunday. 8.9.09 10:46 pm
It took me three tries to click "Publish New Entry" in the drop menu.

Mom got a new mattress for me from one of her friends...it's the first time I've gotten a new one since I can remember. Yes, I have had the same mattress since I was a little kid. I could get in an out of bed without thinking or even waking up, because I was so used to it. I even developed a neat little rolling jump that took almost no effort, put me on my feet, and was completely silent. I've always loved sneaking around my own house.

Of course, this one's about a foot higher than the old one. And it's squishier, so when I roll to support myself on my arms they kind of...sink into it and I just flop to the floor. Things are tense in the bedroom these days.

Managed to get a copy of Hard Times. Now I just have to read it before school starts. I'm doing OK.

I'm also reading ADAM by Ted DeKker and The Best 371 colleges or something.

Oh, yeah. Colleges. My mom's freaking out and it's making me nervous. Doesn't help that I'm aiming at schools like Brown and MIT and also that I'm not completely sure what I even WANT in a school.

-cough-

Clemson is like the creepy kid that I'm trying to avoid. And Winthrop is a joke because I live 10 minutes from there.

Actually, Clemson is my backup plan. I wouldn't feel terrible if I went, and a lot of my friends are there.

Katie made some interesting invitational choices for her get together last night. I had a great time. Oh yeah. I chopped up a fallen tree for firewood with gardening shears and a hand saw. There was a lot of lighter fluid involved.

Today, in youth group:

We said goodbye to our seniors and our summer interns.

We played the most furious game of Bombardment ever. It was ridiculous.

I only got hit with a ball once. But it's three times if you count the ball that bounced off the ground, and the ball that Ben threw and pelted my face off. Neither of those count, though, so it was only once!

I seriously thought I might have a concussion for a moment. Plus my lower face was numb. Bahahaha.

Um...I played with some of the toddlers that the leaders bring with them. One baby laughed at my dancing EVEN THOUGH HIS EYES WERE CLOSED AND HE COULD NOT SEE ME.

I actually have enough white Boys State shirts to wear a different one every school day for a week, if you count my Girls State shirt. And if I use the two grey Athletics shirts, I can hit Saturday and Sunday too. Score.

My internet is giving out over here, so I'm going to cut this short before things get really hairy. Later.

λόγος
Friday. 6.27.14 12:45 pm
It's a fantastic word.

Biblical usage: (Taken from blueletterbible.org)
of speech
> a word, uttered by a living voice, embodies a conception or idea
> what someone has said
> > a word
> > the sayings of God
> > decree, mandate or order
> > of the moral precepts given by God
> > Old Testament prophecy given by the prophets
> > what is declared, a thought, declaration, aphorism, a weighty saying, a dictum, a maxim
> discourse
> > the act of speaking, speech
> > the faculty of speech, skill and practice in speaking
> > a kind or style of speaking
> > a continuous speaking discourse - instruction
> doctrine, teaching
> anything reported in speech; a narration, narrative
> matter under discussion, thing spoken of, affair, a matter in dispute, case, suit at law
> the thing spoken of or talked about; event, deed
its use as respect to the MIND alone:
> reason, the mental faculty of thinking, meditating, reasoning, calculating
> account, i.e. regard, consideration
> account, i.e. reckoning, score
> account, i.e. answer or explanation in reference to judgment
> relation, i.e. with whom as judge we stand in relation
> > reason would
> reason, cause, ground
In John, denotes the essential Word of God, Jesus Christ, the personal wisdom and power in union with God, his minister in creation and government of the universe, the cause of all the world's life both physical and ethical, which for the procurement of man's salvation put on human nature in the person of Jesus the Messiah, the second person in the Godhead, and shone forth conspicuously from His words and deeds.

That's just its usage in the Bible. Before being pulled into Judaism and Christianity, where it tends to refer to the principals of will, order and reason that the universe is founded upon, (And, in John 1, it refers to Jesus!) λόγος was already a nifty word referring to discourse and logic. Logos (the English spelling) has a long history in Greek philosophy. It was nefariously hard to translate into Latin and still doesn't really have a solid English translation. Aristotle grouped it with πάθος and ἦθος, pathos and ethos, as means of communication and persuasion. Quoting Paul Rahe (Thanks, Wikipedia!): "For Aristotle, logos is something more refined than the capacity to make private feelings public: it enables the human being to perform as no other animal can; it makes it possible for him to perceive and make clear to others through reasoned discourse the difference between what is advantageous and what is harmful, between what is just and what is unjust, and between what is good and what is evil."

All in all, it's a wonderful word, and certainly one of my favorites. Especially because I have a hard time understanding and identifying my emotions, I tend to fall back to a logical way of thinking (which isn't always a good thing). I'm a thinker, and the idea that the universe was created with specific characteristics of order, and further that this founding order comes from and IS God is just a beautiful idea to me. That God would start the creation with his words, and that the Greeks would consider words to be the close to the heart of existence itself is beyond my ken.

So, naturally, this was the logical conclusion:

If I can get a better picture (it's healed up really well so far) I'll put it up.

Hope you're well.
