In the Dark of the Night!
Saturday. 1.15.11 11:35 am
Evil will find herrrrr!

...

I always think of the craziest things to say when I'm in bed at night these days. But I can't write them down or anything so I just try to remember them for later.

When I turn over, the window blinds are right there in my face. I find it amusing to cross my eyes and let my brain stitch the two images together the way it normally would if my eyes weren't crossed. If the two images are similar enough, the composite will be a surreal, "3D" experience that breaks down if you try to focus on it, since the image you're seeing technically doesn't exist. This trick works on any repeating pattern that's close enough to your face. It's the same trick you use to see the "hidden 3D image" in those weird CGI cards you can buy. Anyway, I stare at my blinds and just bask in the surreality. It's like good music, almost.

I am beyond sore. I'm used to being a little tight after the first weeks of swim practice, but this is something else. I can barely move my arms. Last night I felt something pop when I was lifting. I think I'm screwing up my tendons or something. Pathetic, really, since I'm mostly using 7-15 pound dumbbells. Oh, the joys of being a pansy man. As of right now the most infuriating thing is that I can't completely fold or straighten my elbows. Not that it hurts, which it does. I mean that they get stuck. I feel like I'm stretching past my flexibility limits when I do things like lay out in bed or scratch my head and it is quite painful.

Melissa Kaplan is a tremendously talented individual. She's like Trent Reznor without his love of destruction. It's sort of inspiring, actually. Universal Hall Pass and Splashdown are both top of my list at the moment. And, alternatively, the Man On Fire soundtrack (which by chance has a lot of stuff by NIN). Lots of good stuff that nobody else likes, haha.

School's finally in. I have a better teacher for Cal 2 (and better classmates), but I am going to need some serious review of Cal 1. Which makes sense, really.

I love my computer. It is somewhat fancy, and it is mine. Meaning that I can make it somewhat fancier. It's sort of the same personality trait that makes me rearrange my room: a need for added efficiency. And the same that makes me switch what side of the bed I put my head on: a need for change. I just like things to work better. I have a nifty little gesture suite installed on my computer that makes my touchpad almost as useful as a Mac's. And my desktop background cycles through a folder of artistic photographs, paintings, and fractals on a daily basis. My screensaver is this. Completely mesmerizing, by the way. I definitely recommend it. A huge one-up on the built in screensavers.

I should go now.

I always forget to update this thing these days. Poo on me.

I saw a fantastic movie a few nights ago. I'm going to have to compare it to Sweeny Todd because it's a musical, and it's also dark and gothy and generally cynical in nature.

Yes, I know that I just used improper grammar with so many "ands". I know it's wrong, and I do it purposefully to express that I'm rambling with excitement. It's a literary device.

ANYWAYS!

It's like Sweeny Todd, but I liked it much better. In fact, I watched it with a crazy Todd fan (trust me, the guy pretends to be British and has a Lord of the Rings chess set, not to mention "action figures" of various famous characters throughout history. Like Sherlock Holmes.) and he even liked it better.

Repo! The Genetic Opera. Obviously not very well known in popular culture. But the music was pretty much all kick-ass, and the dramatic aspect was not toned down at all.

LAHHHHH

And, yes, Paris Hilton is in this movie. I respect her a tiny bit more just for playing a part. She does pretty well.

The first song kind of explains the current social state of affairs, with the mass population addicted to surgery and therefore relying on the painkiller called Zydrate. The second song is my favorite, especially the finale. And the last song kind of explains the hold that GeneCo has on their paid murderer: blackmail.

Maybe a better post later.

Obama's got it covered.
Sunday. 8.16.09 10:19 pm
I know that this isn't really funny, but for 5 or 6 immature moments Ryan and I were giggling like small children about the idea of Speedos with Obama's face on the crotch. We were already planning on wearing matching sets since it's our senior swim year; mine green and his read, with the Mario Starman on the crotch and a Goomba's face on the cheeks. It was a small step to put the president's face on the front instead. I thought it would be the ultimate win.

"No, man. That doesn't even cover it. Obama does."

I abruptly choked on the broccoli in my mouth.

But yeah, it's not that funny anymore. I still want to go for the Mario theme. Dunno why.

I always have the most stimulating things to write about, but then I put it off and forget what I wanted to say or how I was gonna say it. And then you're stuck with random stories from my life.

Thursday night was Ryan's birthday party, which didn't let me sleep until...say, 4:30. We were playing Hide and Seek in his neighbors' yards from 12 until we started sampling video games at 3 (Transformers is definitely for small children.)

I had to get up at 9 to make sure my brother got to his Optometrist appointment at 10, even though it was actually at 10:50.

-grumble grumble-

Then swim practice from 3:45 to 5:30 (Butterfly day sucks great balls...I can literally not do a legal 100 yard butterfly, much less a full practice) followed by an hour of dry land (not hard, but no chance for real rest.) That put me at home at 7 PM, with only 4 hours of sleep. And then!

At 11 Ryan's youth group started a lock in...meh. I went, but I didn't stay up all night. Call me a loser. I just didn't have fun. There were a few people who were...less than mature. I seemed to miss out on all the fun, too. Something I'm a little peeved about. Oh, you missed the basketball game! Wow, you should have seen us tape that kid to a wall! Why'd you go to bed so early? (I went to bed around 4:40)

-super loud grumbling-

When I got up yesterday at SEVEN AM (completely uncalled for, FARPY leaders,) drove home at 8:30, and slept til 5:50 ish.

:D :D :D :D

Then I went to bed at 12:30 last night and still managed to sleep a healthy night's sleep before church this morning. Sleep for the win!

Today we welcomed our new freshmen to youth group with silly games and the Wheel of Misfortune. I got to throw Cheeto balls at a girl's face so they'd stick to the shaving cream. And Charlie told us about his crazy grandmother. Good times.

I know the music isn't much, and is actually a little creepy at some points, but the lyrics of this song describe be much better than I've ever been able to. He's brutally honest about his life, something that I know I have trouble doing even in my own mind...and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

"Playing a lion being led to a cage
I turn from surreal to seclusion
From love to disdain
From belief to delusion
From a thief to a beggar
From a god to 'God save me.'
...
If I seem superhuman,
I have been misunderstood."

That's some hard hitting stuff. I know how easy it is to assume that the people around us have near perfect lives, or sometimes for us to assume that about ourselves. Myself. I have a very loving group of friends, and not a few of them are bold enough to say that they admire me. Frankly, I admire them most of the time, and I feel bad because I know that I tend to act the right way, but only up to a point. And past that point, I'm just like this song.

Practice has been canceled today and tomorrow because a few kids on the team came down with Swine Flu. Fantastic. Also, being a senior is a blast, all my classes have cool teachers, and those strawberry Fruit Singles cups at lunch are absolutely amazing.
