- Carrie - Dream of the Red Chamber - Time to Kill - Scent of the Missing - Stiff | The Sun Monday. 4.20.09 10:47 am Icarus, Icarus, I loved you my Icarus: the fool who dared the sun. I saw an angel, but to my despair the wings will help you run Run from the world to the arms to the sighs to run and finally be done But there is my Icarus, my beautiful Icarus flying right into the sun. Now on the rocks you lie dying As Sirens sing sweet, in your ears But I trust that I will die crying If you ever actually hear Your mouth is still moving in a feverish haze and death is still clouding your bright blue gaze and as I bend down I hear you say, The Sun! The Sun! The Sun! Comment! (0) | Recommend! Opposites Attract Wednesday. 4.15.09 8:46 pm And I'm not sure why... I am still trying to figure it out and... I'm loss for an answer. Anyway, here is a little poem I wrote: Find out what you are, my friend, and you'll find out what you'll be I for one am magma that dares the chilling seas On the surface I am the fire that does burn and sorch the land And the wretched die in anquish as I silence all their plans Quiet and determined, I rage beneath the earth To anger I give counsel and to passion I give birth Though I am but magma, I do not choose to be And so I crawl determined, down into the sea I will caress the chilling waters and my skin will start to cool And though my fires burn inside me, by this quarry I will pool. So, when I find them sleeping, from their burning I'll be free And as his waves caress me, I will also warm the sea Slowly he will shape me and whittle me away My surface will be cleaving to the patterns of our play Perhaps he'll work inside me, making houses there And I'll give birth to fish and eels and flesh and other fare But should he dare consume me, my anger will start to glow And he will feel me boil, long before I blow And on a mountain of fire, I will rise out of the sea So be careful my dear ocean, I am magma, I am she You can love me my dear ocean, but you cannot devour me Comment! I was reading a section of this philosophy book on the atheist philosophy (because I am interested) and it talks a little about how "If God is a good, how is there evil in the world". They say that logically, if God is good and he is omnipotent that means that he will stop evil. Now imagine this: a child is teasing another child on the playground, the other child is getting angry, but it wont say anything. Finally, it gets fed up and punches the other child. Now, say there is a playground administrator and she knows, because she knows kids, that if that kid keeps on going on like that its going to get socked, but she lets it happen anyway. Why? Is it because she cannot stop the fight? Surely not. It's because the kid will think twice about doing it again. The fatal flaw of humanity, of course, is that it is tremendously stupid (I know this because I am part of it). While we may 'get it' when some kid hits us in the face that maybe we deserved it and the kid might 'get it' after the playground administrator yells at him that this isn't the only way and not the most affective way to get his point across, but our creative little 'logical' minds love to squirm out of what seems harder and gravitate to what seems easier. This is why I have a religion. I know, with due humility, that I am certainly not as smart as the generations upon generations of moral founding which first layed out the consitution of my holy book. And while I do not always understand why things are the way they are, I do understand that its worked for other people and I'm not really adverse to predicting actions based on positive results. I suppose some atheist may still think that this philosophy makes me stupid and who knows, I may be, but as Socrates says, "The only true wisdom is in knowing that you know nothing." That's just a small piece of advice from a very smart guy. Comment! (7) | Recommend! I become a LARPer Monday. 3.9.09 5:39 pm So, I have elevated my nerdom status and I am now participating in a World of Darkness LARP. (I'm a big fan of the system, the acting based concept and the horror theatre is excellently thought out) So anyway, there were only five of us there because of the fog/snow that was blanketing the state at the time (though not in Boulder... because it's Boulder), and so it got a little slow here and there. So somewhere towards 11 I get into this conversation with lady about rasing kids (in reality, not in game) and she says that you can definitely improve on how your parents raised you. I said that I wasn't sure if I could which launched a very interesting discussion on how she felt she improved on how she raised her kids. I didn't have the heart to tell her that the reason why I said that was because my parents were so damn good at it! Comment! (3) | Recommend! You can never be too careful... Saturday. 3.7.09 10:04 am ... if you want to protect yourself, but the thing is, is that the more you keep something safe, the less likely its able to do what it's supposed to. Your paperweight will never get a virus, but then again, the reason why you got a computer was so that you could play on the internet. It's the same way in life. While you may want to keep to yourself and make sure nothing bad happens to you, you can't live like that. So take your chances. Live a little. Comment! (1) | Recommend! |
