Closing Remarks
Saturday. 5.8.04 2:00 am
Well, my exams are over. All done. Strange sense of calm now that all the hoopla around them is over. People are moving out everywhere today. It's like move-in weekend, but in reverse. Only me and like 3 other people on the hall are staying until tomorrow, well 4 including the RA. 8 am tomorrow is when my folks are coming to load up the car. Got most of my stuff packed by now. Just need my sheets (after I finish sleeping tonight) and my computer (after I finish typing this entry). Everything else has been neatly arranged into sorted bins using the utmost care ... I hope you didn't believe that. `` I never knew I had so much stuff, especially in my desk drawers. Papers and receipts and movie tickets and everything under the moon. It all basically got tossed into a large brown paper grocery bag to be sorted out later.

Also I took waaay too many clothes with me. Looking through all the shirts and stuff I have here, I bet I only wore about 50% of them, even waiting on average a month between laundry loads. Speaking of that I've come up with a plan. See I usually wait to do clothes until I'm either out of underwear or socks. When that happens, I'm kind of forced to do them soon. By that time I've amassed massive amounts of clothes that usually end up being a good 3 very full loads. Then they all have to be folded, and its just a hassle. So I've got a plan for next year. I'm only going to bring 2 weeks or so of socks and underwear. Thus causing me to run out sooner and subsequently do my laudry more often. Resulting in a more enjoyable folding experience. I think it might work. Maybe. Aside from that I realize how lucky I am to have a room on the first floor. I see all these people carrying varitable chest of drawers down 3 flights of stairs. Tough. Then I think to next year when I'll be living on the third floor of the dorm, and how I'll have to do the same thing. I'm packing lightly next year. ``

Speaking of next year, I am living on grounds. Got a suite with 5 other people in a place called Gooch. Its about 5 minutes or so walking distance from where I am now, so the location isn't so bad. I went in with a group of 4 other people when we signed up for housing. So I'll be living with Sean (good friend from my hall), Ben (also a friend from my hall), Tyler (my current roommate, for those who don't know), and Brian (friend I met in engineering). Including me that makes 5 people, but we got a 6 person suite. So who's this mysterious 6th party? Who knows? We've tried to find out, but housing doesn't want to tell us. Weird. Anyway, the cool thing about housing in Gooch is that everyone gets a single room! No more roommates. All 6 rooms empty out into a "living area". Kind of like an apartment. Fairly nice.

Saw Jessica's list of stuff "I did" and "I did not" in college list and thought it was a cool idea. So here's my answers. I'm sure I won't get everything, I know I won't. But these are the things that came to my mind first.

I did:
------
Think for myself
Pull an all-nighter
Things I never thought I would
Things I never thought I could
Smoke a hookah
Pass
Go to parties
See a bunch of movies
Meet the most interesting people
Come to like Halo
Buy a CD
Become addicted to AIM
Have quite a few firsts
Eat sushi
Visit my high school
Become spontaneous
Order pizza at 1:30 am
Broaden my horizons
TP two houses
Buy a rose
Feel at home
Sleep for 14 hours
Go hiking
Skipped 6 classes (5 because I didn't feel like going, 1 because I just forgot, lol)
Learn a great deal
Have the best year ever

I did not:
----------
Get drunk
Get stoned
Become otherwise intoxicated
Steal anything
Kill my rommate
Have a bed time
Enjoy washing my own clothes
Take near enough pictures
Regret anything I did
Ever realize how cool it would be

I'll probably add to both of these lists later as I think of more, but that's what I can think of at the moment. How I wish I'd kept something like this blog since the beginning of the year to keep track of all the craziness that went on. I just looked at my writing "College" and I had completely forgotten about that. Good thing I wrote it down. I'll still be remembering stuff that happened here years from now I'm sure. Too much stuff to comprehend at a single time.

So at the end of one year looking onto another. This has been all at the same time the most intimidating, interesting, fun, exciting, exhilerating, and liberating time of my life. I'm definitely going to miss this place. All the people and memories. The people I'll see again for the next three years. But the memories I'll keep for much longer than that.

After I submit this entry I'll be taking apart my computer and getting all my stuff together for tomorrow morning when it will all be packed into the van. So this will be my last entry from good old 109 Hancock. My home away from home. Talk to you guys and girls tomorrow. Hope everyone had a good day!

Day Late
Friday. 5.7.04 11:46 am
Forgot to write in here last night. Oops. I hope none of my vast readership was taken deathly ill or went into a coma after not being able to read how I spent my day yesterday. If that did happen to anyone, I'm sorry. ``

Yesterday was a good day. Started out by going to a meeting with some of the head tech people at ITC (Information, Technology, and Communication) they're in charge of the networks and computers at UVA. The meeting went very well, and I was chosen to lead a project creating an online personel tracking system for move-in weekend next year. So that was pretty cool. : )

The rest of my day consisted mainly of packing. Getting all my mounds of papers, folders, CDs, books, pens, trinkets, and assorted bobbleheads into boxes for going home. Packing takes a lot of time! Maybe I should have listened to that person that told me I should have started earlier ... hmm.... I can't remember his name .... ``

But I took a break from studying to hang with two of my friends before they left. We went to the movies and saw The Punisher. It wasn't too bad of a movie. I've never seen or read any of the Punisher comics, but the story was decent. Plus there was some great acting from the guy that played Quinton (can't remeber the actor's name) and from John Travolta as the mob boss. Exciting action sequences and everything, though I really really hope no little kids watch this movie as their inspiration. Quoting from the movie here: "Sometimes the law just isn't enough. Sometimes you have to step beyond the law and inflict [[dramatic pause]] PUNISHMENT!" I think that sends the wrong message to the youth of America. Just maybe, lol. But the movie was alright, I liked it. Then we went to Taco Bell and saw this guy with what couldn't have been less than 8 earrings in each ear.

Anyway, only one more exam left! Computer science in exactly 2 hours and 14 minutes. After that I'll be done with my first year of college. W00t! Long entry is probably coming tonight, a year in review most likely. Until then I must hit the books ... well really I must hit the computer. It is a comp sci test afterall. ``

Hahahaha
Thursday. 5.6.04 3:45 am
For having nothing to do, I really have been busy. Got up early this morning at like 10 o'clock, why? I don't know. Then later I went to lunch, came back and went to play raquetball. I beat Brian again, in all three games we played, hehe. Now I've been set up to play Min. I hear he's good. We better play soon though, I'm going to be leaving in a few days. Speaking of which i need to start packing ...

OK, I can't sleep right now. Big day ... big day. But I just got back from a little late night escapade. Me and four other people went off to do a little ... mischief. See there are two other friends we have that have apartments in the area and we decided to wish them a happy end of the school year. Not by knocking on their doors, that would be too easy. Its much more fun to go at 2:00 am with packs of toilet paper, saran wrap, and plastic forks. That's right a good old fashioned toilet papering! Hahahaha. The saran wrap was for wrapping their cars up and the forks were for the yard. We bought bags of like 200 plastic forks and stuck them all over their yard. All that with toilet paper to top it off. Hahaha. Man that was fun. Pictures to prove it! Don't worry, it was all in fun.

Oh and I got a new supply of music now. Today I "aquired" a "good amount" of mp3s. By "aquired" I mean copied. And by "good amount" I mean 17 gigs. That's right. 17 gigs! I now have more music than I could possibly listen to. Props to whomever invented external hard drives. You rock.

I'm so happy right now. About everything.

Internet Withdrawl
Tuesday. 5.4.04 4:56 pm
The most horrible, scary, and down right frightening thing happened last night ... the Internet went out!!! Ahhhh, run for the hills! It happened about 10 pm or so last night. Without a warning it just went out. And within literally 10 seconds *everyone* on the hall was aware of the problem and wanted it fixed. A mass exodus of people from their rooms into the hall explaiming "My Internet's out!" The look of panic spread and it grew worse and the minutes ticked by and it hadn't come back. Then a giant scorpion lept through the window and ... OK maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but really it really did go out and everyone was complaining the whole night that it wasn't there. I realize now that I am addicted. And ... acknoweldgement is the first step toward recovery. *blinks back a tear and pats myself on the back* ``

Not just the Internet went down last night, my calculus final also went down. Man ... that was tough. It was 18 problems and we had 3 hours. The first 10 problems I did without too much trouble and I was feeling pretty good going into question 11. I read it a few times and was like "OK I'll just come back to this one." On to number 12, "Umm ... I'll come back to that one too." Questions 13-15 were equally as mind numbing. I mean they weren't problems where I could get halfway and stop or something, they were problems where I was like "I don't even know where to start" or "Sweet mother of Christ!" So for the remaining two hours I worked on just 4 problems. Torture I tell you. One of them I had no clue on. It said "Find the sum of this series: Infinite Series starting at n=1 of 1/(n^2+n). I couldn't for the life of me find the sum. I put down some random fact about series vying for partial credit and put as the answer "The sum is probably somewhere around 2." How's that for an answer? Haha. However, the rest of the class seemed to be writhing in pain as well. So the average can't be too good. Anyway, glad that one's over.

Oh, I got a donut today. Someone just comes up to me with a plate full of donuts and is like "Do you want a donut?" Sure, why not.

Sunday Sunday Sunday
Monday. 5.3.04 12:11 am
Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! Mud Races! Alright anyway, today was a fairly productive and fun day. Went to a picnic/cookout thing for most of the afternoon. Good food and I got to play volleyball for a good while after eating. Although it was very fun, I now have to deal with my sunburn ... Yeah yeah laugh it up.

Then later tonight I went with a few friends to play raquetball. This was my first time really playing and considering that I did alright. Still a little shaky on a few rules, but I did alright. Hehe. I beat Brian twice in a row. And it was my first time playing. Hehe. I really need to play raquetball more often, though I'm sure my tennis playing skills are next to nothing now that I've gotten slightly used to a raquetball raquet and ball.

All is not fun and games though. I did make time to go to a calculus review session for my exam tomorrow night. Its at 7 pm so be thinking about me.

Cross Out Physics
Saturday. 5.1.04 6:01 pm
Only two more exams ... yes! No more physics, that final is over with. It wasn't as bad as I imagined it, definitely not as hard as he could have made it, but still sort of tough. I think I did ok on it though. I compared answers with Will on my hall, who good at physics, and we agreed on almost all the questions. So that's either a good sign, or we both failed. Hmm. I hope the former. ``

Yesterday ... hmm ... was a day spent mostly studying for physics. Although I made time to do some other stuff. I can only stand reading textbooks for so long. Played tennis for a little bit with Rob. He's good. I mean he puts so much spin on that ball you don't know what direction its going to go when you hit it. Although I beat him in the game we played. Hehe, yay me! I used "Conner-Gray Play" against him. For those that don't know, that is basically hitting from corner to corner, front to back, in an effort to tire and exhaust the other player with precision shots. Speaking of tennis, going to play tennis later this month with Twyla, Scott, and Heather. That should be pretty fun.

Later that night I went to see the Princess Bride showing at the local theater. Man ... that movie is so much better on the big screen and with an audience. It was pretty funny because everyone there was a fan of the movie and had the whole dialogue memorized, like me, heh. And I thought I was the only one that knew the lyrics to the song that plays during the credits, *shugs* who knew, haha. So people knew when the funny parts were coming up and like the whole theater would crack up laughing a good minute or so before the line was delivered. Like near the end when the priest is getting ready to say his line ("Marriage, marriage is what brings us together today."), the whole theater just cracked up the first time he came on screen. It was so funny. I'm seriously considering seeing it again tonight, it is free. I think I might.

And I'm slightly disappointed no one said anything about Probability Man. *I* thought it was a fairly clever idea. Oh well, lol.
