Yet Again Another Thing..
Wednesday. 10.20.04 8:33 pm
You're trying to trick me into giving something away. It won't work
It has worked! You've given everything away.

Its not that bad.
Well I'm not saying I'd want to build a summer home here, but the trees are actually quite lovely.

I suppose you think you're brave?
Only compared to some.

Jog his memory.
Oops. I think I jogged him too hard.

You did something right.
Don't worry. I won't let it go to my head.

And they all lived happily ever after.

Later.

And another thing..

Did anyone else notice that I didn't end my last two entries with "Later."?
Didn't think so.

I'm going to watch this fish now

And notice that the bag isn't completely filled up with water. Because filling it up too much will cause the fish to try and jump and kill itself all because you filled it up too much. Then you'll have a dead fish on your conscience and after a while it will start to stink.

Another thing..

I fail to see why people watch racing. It's just a bunch of cars going around in a circle. Sorry, an oval. I mean they go around once, and then they go around again. They just go round and round. Round and round and round..

I don't know, doesn't peak my interest. Then people will say "I only watch for the crashes." You're sadistic! That's like saying "I only watch boxing to see someone's ear bitten off." That's just sick.

*snap* sleep Zzzzzz
Tuesday. 10.19.04 2:19 am
Well, look at the time and guess who's still up. I tried to go to sleep about 45 minutes ago. I just lay in bed. I know I'm tired. I was soo slow getting out of bed this morning and this afternoon I contemplated taking a nap. So I know I'm tired. But still I lay down and I'm wide awake. I can't get to sleep. I really hope this doesn't become a recurring occurance. That would suck. Because I know I'm going to end up going to sleep lat.. again since I can't get to sleep early and I'll be tired in the morning again.

On the bright side, this afternoon I heard one of my favorite songs on the radio station I listen to. Its an online radio station called Nighscapes and just out of the blue it starts playing. The Finding Forrester redition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/Its a Wonderful World" It just made me smile. Perked me up I'd guess you'd say. Needless to say I was humming and singing it the rest of the day, put me in a really good mood.

"... and I think to myself, what a wonderful world!"

*smells flowers* You know, I do that now everytime before I leave my room. It sets me off to class with a smile on my face. *smile*

I've been thinking..
Monday. 10.18.04 9:04 am
Apparently no one cares about the election, or rather decided to enlighten me with their views. In loo of the lack of interest into my vote my decision will be kept secret! Ha! You'll never know who I voted for!!!

Speaking of knowing who people vote for, how come I never get included in those polls. You know those "55% of Americans approve of ....." polls. Excuse me, but I was never questioned. And given any two survey's in which 50% of Americans decide, I should be included in one of them. But never in my whole 19 (I'm so old) years have any from Zogby's ask me what I thought about national issues. I think its about time that nation's poll takers quit asking the same 5,000 people over and over and over again and give the rest of the nation a chance to weigh in.

Same thing with the Family Feud. They have about 5 questions per game, and 100 people surveyed each time. The show's been going on since the mid-1970s. With all those hundreds and hundreds of episodes, you'd think I'd have gotten asked once. Or even if not me, someone that I know, or even someone that someone I know knows. The chances are pretty good, but no. 100 people surveyed.. yeah right.

Does anyone see the contradiction of Mountain Dew Pitch Black? You know, the new mountain dew flavor that reeks of grape soda goodness? Well, the problem is in the title. Pitch Black. Hello!? Its *purple* not black! Its grape soda for goodness sake. Sure its a dark purple, a deep purple, but definitely not pitch black as the title so aptly says. A better name would be Mountain Dew Pitch Purple.... but that just sounds retarded.

One of the things that kind of irritates me, even though I do it too, is people that while at college, continue to wear college gear promoting their school. Like people that walk around here with a UVA t-shirt, covered by a Virginia jacket, only to be topped with a ball cap with a big V on it. Ok dude, I know you support UVA. You know why? Well besides the fact your outfit alone probably cost enough to fund the new football stadium, you go to the freakin school!! Its different if you live in Chicago and wear a Texas A&M jacket. It shows the people there were you're loyalties are. Wear a Purdue shirt while in Miami Beach, I'll go for that. But day after day to wear the name of the school you are physically at? I mean come on.

I think the person that created WordArt should be shot. I have yet to ever see it used for anything than the tacky banners that grace the flyers passed out at PTA luncheons, or business newsletters, or annoying posters around campus trying to get me to come to their next meeting. WordArt can only be effective when used one way... never. Same goes for those clip-art pictures with the black stick figure people posing in often provocative positions exclaiming with a small yellow light bulb that they have an idea. Shot.

I was walking back from dinner the other night and noticed something. The picnic tables in the middle of the field outside the dining hall are chained to the ground. That's right chained. There's nothing less than a genuine chain bolting the picnic table to the ground. I could not believe it. FIrst of all who would want to steal a picnic table? Second of all if someone could manage to lift that thing with less than 10 people I would be thoroughly impressed. Thirdly, the stupid table has a giant blue and orange "V" on it. Any idiot who by some miracle managed to take it would have a 3 by 3 foot blue and orange V picnic table to stash somewhere. I'd say chances are pretty good that thing would be spotted. Besides it's an old probably rotting wooden picnic table. The fact that it must be chained and bolted to the ground is sad.

I was thinking about something the other day. We were doing something in Discrete Math called a syllogism. Maybe you've heard of it. They go something like this:

Roses are red.
Thing that are red are pretty.
Therefore roses are pretty.

You take two true facts: a-->b and b-->c and conclude that a-->c. Sounds simple enough and makes perfect sense. Same concept as in math. If a=b and b=c then a=c. But I was thinking about something and stop me when I'm wrong.

The past leads to the present.
The present leads to the future.
Therefore the past leads to the future.

Makes sense. Follows all the rules above. And as far as I can tell the first two lines are facts. Whatever happened in the past shaped things so that they are like they are now, the present. And whatever you do now in the present shapes how the future will turn out. So therefore whatever happened in the past shapes the future. This bothers me. This means that the present has no effect on the future and that the future will go on regardless of what happens in the present since the past has already dictated it. So this means either one of two things are true: 1) There is no free will or 2) I have just disproved one of the greatest mathematical inference rules of all time. I don't know which I'd rather it be. Someone please tell me what I did wrong.

When I walk to class each day I get the uncontrollable urge to kill every squirrel in sight and gather their acorns..

Later.

Political Agenda
Friday. 10.15.04 9:09 am
I got my absentee ballot in the mail the other day. Now I must vote, but I don't know who I want to vote for. So to help in my decision and to amuse the avid readership I have (send checks please) I will debate with myself on my own blog... if that makes sense.

The issues:
Abortion: I mostly agree with Bush on this one. Abortions only in cases of rape, incest, or to save the mother. Ban on partial birth abortion.
+1 Bush

Civil Rights: Kerry on this front. Supports benefits for gay couples. I mean I don't think the government has any right to say you don't have hospital visitation rights, or signing a life insurance policy, or anything like that. If you're a couple, you're a couple and should have the same rights. No matter which gender your partner happens to be.
+1 Kerry

Crime: I don't know whether I'm for the death penalty or not. I can see it both ways. As far as gun control, they both pretty much say the same thing, guns are ok with law abiding citizens, I agree.
+1 Bush, +1 Kerry

Defense: I don't like the war in Iraq. I convinced myself it was ok because Iraw had WMDs. But turns out they didn't. But we did get rid of Saddam, but at the cost of how many lives? Back and forth. As much as Bush sounds and acts like a cowboy, he was the one that started it. And I agree with what Bush said in the first debate. He was talking about how Kerry had said "This is the wrong war, at the wrong time, in the wrong place." Bush begged the question "What kind of message is that sending our troops in Iraq?" You know, he's right. As much as Bush seems to be rather rash sometimes in decisions he at least follows them through and supports his actions. If Kerry stepped up, how would that effect the morale of the troops fighting to know that your president doesn't support what you're doing?
+1 Bush

Economy: Being in economics, I have a bit more perspective than I did. Kerry says the Bush tax cuts are bad and that they target the wealthiest 1% of Americans. Well... taxes are denoted by % of income so obviously if they are the wealtest they'd pay the most, hence getting the biggest tax break. They pay 30 some % tax anyway I mean come on, its not like they're getting off scott free or anything. So I don't believe a word of that "wealthiest 1%" speech he keeps repeating over and over and over. On the other hand, Bush floundered the biggest economic boom ever. Just look at a chart of the stock market NYSE over the past 100 years. Growth, growth, extreme growth, ludacrous growth, GOD-LIKE growth! (sorry, I couldn't resist ``) Anyway, then almost at the time of Bush inaguration, plumet 2000 points. Some would argue that's not his fault. But it happened. And a recession ain't good. Granted the economy is now rising. Bush would say its because of his tax cuts, but in reality (as I learned in economics) a rise in GDP is created most rapidly by increased government expenditure. Can you say Iraq?
+1/2 Bush

Education: Bush is for the NCLB (No Child Left Behind), which he wrote I believe anyway. That automatically makes me not like him. I worked for the public charter schools in Washington DC the summer before last. Its a very small public school system with about 12 schools each with about 200-300 people. I had to make reports and charts on their test scores that conformed to the NCLB requirements. It was sooo much work. And the whole time the people there were stressed to the hilt because according to the law if the schools don't produce reports accurately and on time they recieve NO federal money. Plus it rewards schools that do good by giving more money. That doesn't make any sense. If a school doesn't do well then it obviously needs the money more. Plus there are quotas all through it. On how many must pass, percentages of ethnicities that must pass, gender ratios, all this other crap. I know because I worked with the god forsaken bill for 3 months, lol. Kerry's goals to not cut education (which Bush has mentioned doing) and funding early gradeschool teachers as a way to help education makes far more sense to me.
+1 Kerry

Health Care: I don't have a lot of knowledge about this subject, but I agree mostly with Bush that a national health care plan would be more bad than good. Sure it would make things cheaper, more available, but at what expense of quality? Competition ensures quality. Definition of capitalism.
+1 Bush

Homeland Security: I'm with Kerry here. Bush just doesn't seem to have done much in the terms of securing America at home. Plus Kerry is for the repeal of the Patriot Act, which in my view was a rush to action law signed after September 11th that gives the government far far too much power than it needs to fight terrorism. That kind of gov. insight into innocent people's lives needs to stop.
+1 Kerry

Science: I'm not one to say W is stupid, but he is when it comes to science. I think he lets his own views get in the way of science. Like him saying no to stem cell research. I don't understand this. We have the technology and knowledge that within years of research there is the hope of a cure to Alzheimers, Parkinson's, paralysis, and the president of the US says no. It makes no sense. Why doesn't he go into the nursing homes and shake every paralysis patient's hand and say to them, "I'm the president and we at this very moment have the possibility to cure you. However I ordered all the scientists to stop and do no further research on curing your disease because I don't believe in it. Have a good day."
+1 Kerry

So.. final tally:

4.5 Bush
5 Kerry

Ahh! I need to decide soon. Who do you like?

Later.
