A new chapter?
Monday. 7.17.11 12:38 am
I know it is late, but I didn't know whether I would gather up the courage to say this but I have moved on Nutang. I feel so damn guilty about it, because I have been blogging on Nutang since I was 19 and now 27, it was either start a completely new blog with Nutang again or try out a new interface. It was a really hard decision because it is difficult to break the ties with an old friend.

A few reasons for moving onto Tumblr are:
- I need to start blogging about my sewing and sharing this with other crafty communities
- I suck at HTML and needed help with a simplified template
- I need to separate my 'personal' opinions from my ideas about my interests

Please don't forget me Nutang friends and trust me I won't forget you either! This community is the best blogger community I have come across so far. I hope to still blog on Von-nation from time to time, when I can't keep my opinions in any longer :) If you wish to follow me through Tumblr, my blogsite is http://sewislife.tumblr.com

Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors! May you all be happy, healthy and successful in what you set out to achieve. *hugs* xo

The universe is listening
Monday. 5.9.11 7:11 pm
A year things were fairly bleak, I was worries about money, where our goals were at and time seemed to be slipping by so quickly with minimal achievement being reached. I am the type of person who likes to jot down annual goals...but this year I seemed to have skipped that step, 2011 I don't expect much from you. 2010 was a cruisey year because I welcomed my second child Leo, but F and I was not able to start our projects or kick on with our goals. My prayers in 2010 for F to land some full time work was not answered and all of a sudden the universe is rewarding us ten-fold! F seems to have too many job offers now and everyone is asking for his graphic design expertise. He has too many choices however he is focused and knows what he wants. It's all I wanted for my baby.

Sometimes when you want something so bad the universe does not allow you to have it. It will play with you, make you suffer a little before it rewards you. F and I have been through our fair share of let-downs, but I have always remained positive. We have so much to be happy for! I don't ever regret our circumstances, but we have it close to perfect... we just need to get our mojo back and get cracking on our hopes and dreams. It has been on the back burner, but I have never been jealous of those who have met their dreams or have the momentum to work towards it. I feel so elated for my friends and family who are working towards their dreams...it makes me feel like I can reach for the sky too. There are so many possibilities in this life...we can make it and we will :)

I will never give up on my dream to be a part of the fashion industry, when there is a 'will' there is a way :p

I'm in the wrong business!
Tuesday. 5.3.11 7:17 pm
Yesterday I used the online business - http://www.serviceseeking.com.au/ to find a person to look at my hot water heater and to get an electrician to fix my IKEA lighting fixtures. My first step was to sign in using an account and create a request to have electricians and plumbers contact me with quotes. Then it was followed up by a call from someone who sounded like they came from overseas...like someone from the Philippines. They were not able to convey my request very well, I think english may have been their second language. The reason why I turned to an online service seeking website was because I do not know any local electricians or plumbers, usually I would depend on word of mouth...but my network has not grown as widely since we only moved two years ago.

After the request was made, I received one phone call today and another email. I spoke to someone with a really strong accent which I could only understand 50% of what he was saying. So I believed the gentleman said 'no call out fee' but he will take a look at the hot water system and charge $88/hr if he needs to fix it. I am not aware of what is the norm, and I thought 'no call out fee' was a great way of getting a client's business. When I told him to come over, he did but then found nothing wrong with the hot water system and said he would have to charge me $88 fee. I didn't quite get what he was saying because he kept on asking personal questions about my background, about where I worked and whether I owned my house! It was such a bad experience...because the system is a failure! I really heard 'no call out fee' and he said he stated clearly that he would charge me $88/hr. So it is my word against his... He was able to charge us $50 instead, but I don't carry cash of course so I could only pay him $30 from my wallet. I swear he would have just stepped into my house, looked at the hot water heater and left in 5 mins...and wanting to charge me $88 for a visit for no reason.

If this is the norm for all tradies then I am in the wrong business. But I could not possibly charge someone if I didn't do anything! I already knew it deep down that there was nothing wrong with my hot water system...but I guess I was a bit unsure with the weird, loud noises that came from it when we used hot water. I really thought it was a free check, otherwise why would I have called him??

Many times I have thought about learning general handy work around the house, because I am the type of person who would rather do things myself than trust someone else! Because I don't trust the way tradies charge people an arm and a leg for a simple job. TAFE should just create a course for women and how to not rely on a man to do the dirty work. There are actually women out there who want to learn about these things! LIKE ME! This motivates me to be the next DIY queen :)

Birthday, green fingers and 10 year reunion
Sunday. 4.3.11 10:01 pm
So many things have happened in the past few weeks. I turned 27, and I never saw that coming! It's like 10 years after high school and I feel like I haven't really matured mentally haha. I guess it is because I am still surrounded by my close knit of friends who I have been friends with since high school and a husband who I met in high school. Even with the addition of Sofia and Leo in my life I still feel youthful and I don't plan on getting 'old' any time at all! I mean some things make me feel much older, like the word 'responsibility'. But I have always been a responsible person, my mum would have to say she is lucky to have a daughter like me cuz she didn't really have to worry about the decisions I would make.

Anyway my birthday weekend was only last week but it feels like a long time ago! I caught up with the girls at a new Chocolate Cafe called Koko Black in the new Claremont Quarter shopping centre on Bay View Terrace. Very elegant little cafe, which is a franchise from the original in Melbourne. I had some high expectations of this place before arriving because of its Melbourne ties, and they had something on the menu called 'Queen Tea' which translates to a chocolate-style high tea. The concept was great but when we came to taste the $18/pp high tea plate it was over priced and the items were tiny! Michelle and I shared and to think we paid $18 each is too posh for me. The iced chocolate tasted more like cream than chocolate..so I was a bit disappointed. The strawberry panna cottas were delicious, however it was served in a shot glass which didn't really appeal to me. On Saturday night, I treated my friends and family to a dinner at The Grand Palace on the Esplanade. It was grand for sure, but the food was a let down again...can't believe how much money we spent on food that we could have easily bought in China Town. I liked the way they set up the function room though, so all my 17 guests could sit at the same table, there I saw the largest 'lazy susan' (the spinning serving table in the middle of the big table) in my life!

In the month of March I begun planting seeds in our back yard to prepare for Winter harvesting. In the past I have been disappointed by the lack of my gardening skills, that nothing used to sprout from a seed. But today I am proud of myself that I managed to grow few green shoots from the arid Perth soil. Perth has one of the worst soils in the world, so I had to use lots of potting mix and seasol to boost the quality of it. Hopefully I shall have baby carrots to eat soon! And a garden full of flowers :)

Also I have a few things on my list to trial, one provided by BeautyHeaven which is the Vaseline Cocoa Butter body moisturiser and the Vaseline Cocoa Butter body butter. I hope to improve my video reviewing skills and will post up some new ones soon ;) Thanks for your feedback, it was very constructive and I will use your comments to work on my public speaking. Another product I have been given to trial and promote is the Simple Life Coach on Facebook. They sent me 6x of the cleanser, moisturiser, toner to use and to give them out to friends and family. I have been using their Moisturising Cleanser for a year now and I love it. I used to use Dermalogica, but it has become out of my price range. The Simple skincare range does the job, no harsh chemicals, no irritating smells, my skin doesn't dry out and my skin is clear of pimples. Thanks to the Contagious Network for giving me the opportunity to 'spread the word' about this product that I really enjoy using and rely on. I couldn't promote something that I didn't feel 100% certain about. I may just hit up a video review on that one too ;)

Just to add one more thing to the list of 'what I have gotten myself into', I have volunteered to assist with my 10 Year high school reunion which will take place some time at the end of the year. It is crazy I know...I have totally overwhelmed myself by putting too many things on my to-do-list, that I have neglected my sewing. At the moment I have helped out by creating a survey using Survey Monkey, thanks to my knowledge of the program through work ;) So I am collecting responses by listing link via Facebook, it is my way of saying 'hey I contributed'. Now the next task is to try and look for a suitable venue which will house 200 possibly intoxicated 27 year olds. I can't wait to catch up with some old friends, outside of the usual crew!!

By typing all this out has definitely helped lighten my head, I have so many things to do it's crazy...I mean looking after Leo and Sofia should be enough but I just keep challenging myself to ensure home life isn't too mundane :p I could even be bordering on being stressed-out!

First Video review
Monday. 3.14.11 2:12 pm

This is my first ever You Tube video, or any video streamed online for that matter. I was asked by Beauty Heaven to submit a video review on any product of my choice. If they like what they see they will send me free products to trial, but on the condition that I review these products and have my video be seen by thousands of viewers on their website.

www.beautyheaven.com.au

I did not go off a script or anything, so you can probably notice me mumbling and 'ummming...'. But that is just my brain trying to communicate to my mouth, so I am thinking about what to say next.

I will try to be a little louder next time cuz the mic wasn't strong enough to pick up on my 'mouse like' voice. Unfortunately I wasn't blessed with a good set of pipes, a lot of people have told me to speak up...but when I do it strains my throat believe it or not! Plus I can't scream, I just don't do it...cuz it isn't physiologically possible.

Have you guys ever done a You Tube video? Any tips or feedback?

Dino Mania
Sunday. 3.6.11 3:15pm
Since having the lil guy in my life I have been seeing dinosaurs! I know they have been extinct for over 100 million years or so...but I recall a fascination with these creatures since I was a little girl. My hubby is also a dino fanatic from when he was a boy too. And since having Sofia I have been crazy about cupcakes, cupcake designs on fabric, baking cupcakes etc. It's funny how having children in your life makes it so much more creative and brighter :)

So I started on 'Spike' the stegosaurus, my first ever attempt at sewing a plush toy. And why not a cute lil dinosaur for Leo to hug while he goes to sleep. Actually at his age, he is more interested in sucking on the spikes. My hand sewing skills are a bit rusty, I definitely have to brush them up a bit. But it is so squishy...and soft like a pillow.

I also sewed a ballerina skirt for Sofia with a cupcake print. It looks more like play clothes, but isn't that what children do... I have to reinforce the seams a bit because after playing in the skirt I found some tears!

I would really appreciate any feedback! Please let me know what you think :)
