The whole gang, -except Carlos and my dad taking the photo

Yesterday we celerbated Sofia's christening day at Sacred Heart Church, Thornlie at 11:!5am. It reminded me of the time we had the wedding, everything was so hectic and rush rush it felt like the ceremony past by at the speed of light. I was cooking all night and even before going to church, so I was a maniac! I baked cupcakes and made a zucchini frittata (which looked like a quiche in the end!) for the guests. I was quite proud of my culinary efforts. :) Fernando prepared his home made pizza.

We arrived at the church and the deacon was already to start. There was another baby boy getting baptised at the same time, and he had a huge group of people. Sofia may have had 20. Throughout the ceremony I was more worried of Sofia being hot in her long dress and bonnet, and I was afraid she would cry once the priest poured water on her head! Yet I was able to enjoy the words coming out of the deacon's mouth, that this day marks a very important time in Sofia's life. Choosing the god parents, my friend Gail and F's bro Carlos was a difficult task. I hadn't even told my friends, and they didn't seem phased. I know they are not the type to make a big fuss of my choice.

Anyho...I honed in on my superwoman powers when we all came back to the house for lunch and chit chat. I was buzzing around trying to chat to everyone and make sure they had a drink in their hand and eating something. My stress levels must have been through the roof, my heart couldn't stop racing. On top of being a hostess, I was tending to Sofia hungry cries. And Sofia was being extra naughty and not wanting anyone to carry her except me! I'm not very good with parties and the organisation of them, cuz I always want to make sure people are having a good time and not being bored. And I forget to have a good time. :/ At one point I had a moment with F, where we were staring at each other with the same stressed look and laughed hysterically...we are not born to be hospitable. Sometimes it comes naturally to people...and these 'parties' are easy to them. Not us!

All the guests were out by 4pm, and by that time my back was aching, I was super tired and needed a drink hehe. And my friends ask me why I am so skinny...I dont plan to be, I dont eat THAT healthy. I'm just running everywhere all the time, picking up food as I go and my heart beats so fast that it works out the rest of my body hehe. By midnight, F asked me to play a bit of DS to relax...my eyes were shutting by then and I couldnt play any longer. But I had a great sleep :) Being off your feet all day gurantees great sleep hehe.

I'm reminded about time..
Thursday. 2.28.08 11:08pm
I'm constantly reminded that time is really slipping past me. Because whenever I come home from work I see Sofia and how BIG she has grown. The girl is no longer a lil bub that I put over my shoulder to burp. She has a personality, a serious nature, doesn't smile simply, does not like to be alone or play alone, loves looking at books, touching people's faces and standing with assistance. Aside from the times I am pulling out my hair, or she is...I am totally at awe of my daughter and feel so much love that I have not felt for anyone in this world.

With time being the subject. I was at the Perth subway the other day and I was on the escalators when a bunch of people rushed past me climbing the escalator stairs, that was already moving super fast. I just stood on a stair and wondered why do people rush to work? Why do they stress over being there on time. I guess it is more the fear of the boss wondering why they were late. But still it seems so insignificant and stupid to rush to work, your life is passing you by so why not slow down and enjoy it?

I sound like such a daydreamer and a slacker...but honestly work is not THAT important in a lifetime. But yes...work is going good so far. There are a few changes coming up that I don't really want to embrace...cuz I just got back to DIAC and happy with the people I work with and the seat I am sitting in. If we move into Compliance, I'm afraid a lot of our hardwork done a team will be divulged into the bigger section. There's always opportunity to work elsewhere..but I think with Sofia being so young, it is best to stay put.

Just hope everyone has a safe weekend, and remember that rushing for things only seem to make life go by faster by not saving you much time for the simple, enjoyable things! Does that last sentence make sense??

Week with Tiff, F and Sofia
Friday. 2.22.08 11:24pm
This week was mega busy with Tuesday night being 'Fernando and me' time as we delayed our celebrations for Valentine's day. It was very casual, just bought 2 large pizzas from Applecross pizzas and enjoyed them down by the foreshore. It was really nice, it is one of our dating spots back in the day so it was suited the occasion well. I just can't believe so many people park there now, we were trying to peep into other ppls cars to see what they were up to hehehe.

Then come Wednesday I went with Tiff to Terrazza in Nedlands, half an hour from my house but hey..it was good food and she treated me :) The best bit of the evening was going with her and her sis Vira to MLC, my old highschool. It was a walk down memory lane. I was quite disappointed that the art room had been turned into a boarding house, I would love to go back to having free art supplies to aid my artistic flare. Now that flare has fizzeled. We took photos and and Vira rolled down the hill of the famous MLC lawn, she has always wanted to do that.

Thursday, Tiff invited F, Sofia and I to Shimizu Grand for Japanese ALL YOU CAN EAT! OMG...what a week of stuffing myself. I havent had a home cooked meal in ages. But it was the best spread ever, sushi, sashimi, teriyaki, okonomiyaki, salads, soba noodles, steak, tempura, miso soup, and cute lil cakes. It was delicious!! But $38 a head, sooo expensive!! It is at the Floreat Forum, I have never been there cuz I am a southie but Tiff and I had to meet up in the middle.

Friday, I ate again but this time with Mairin and Gim at the Lebanese shop downstairs frm work...I had to go halves cuz I feel so guilty about being a glutton. :/ Also Tiff left to go back to Indo today. I feel sad, cuz I didnt spend enough time with her. Even though she will be back in 3 months, it still sucks how she cannot be here everyday and having the chance to see Sofia. I have somewhat become detached from my friends, even though I dont want to, but I have made myself 100% committed to Sofia. When I go out, I cannot relax because all I think about is getting back to my baby at home. Sometimes I lose myself in too many roles but it is bound to happen when someone becomes the centre of your life.

Family Guy - Blue Harvest
Saturday. 2.16.08 9:35 pm

Yesterday night I watched the 'Family Guy- Blue Harvest' movie at Carlos house with Diego, Fernando, David and Carlos, I am disappointed to say it was average. It had some very funny moments, but most of the time it was random funnies and it made the movie go by too quickly. I felt like a regular half hour show! But I have got to say that the illustration and the graphics made the flick appear like the real Star Wars movie e.g. the spaceships. It was funny how they gave Meg the most lowest role of all, the monster in the garbage dump haha. And it was perfect that Stewie had the role of Darth Vadar. I hope they will continue to make Episodes 5 and 6 of the Star Wars Spoof and I hope they will make it more longer. Cuz by the end I was asking "Is that it?" I don't want to say anymore, to make it a spoiler...in case you guys haven't watched it. But watch it if you love Family Guy!

Finally my very own piece of paper!
Monday. 2.11.08 8:47 pm

Finally!

I have to say that I am not all that excited about my graduation this Thursday. To me it is like a chore, like I have to go and get my certificate, as if there is no other way. I could have it posted, but I know this graduation is not only for me but for my parents. They came to Australia so we could have this opportunity. I am really happy that I finished my studies, but also not completely happy cuz F has not finished his studies with me. We went through a BIG year in 2007, which caused us much strife, and to see him fail one unit was heartbreaking cuz I knew we wouldn't be graduating together. Also I feel his pain, one more bloody unit to complete...

I chose the most appropriate date for my graduation and that will be Valentine's Day. I was never really big on V'day I must say...I like to have my special moment any time of year except V'day. There are just too many cliches and it is just a day celebrated by those who have a special someone. It is a selfish day that doesn't include those who are single. I never liked the lovey doveyness shown on Feb 14th, cuz a lot of places use the event as a marketing tool, to get money off those who crave the v'day feeling e.g. chocolates, flowers, set dinner menus, boat rides, hotel rates etc.

Maybe I am just being different, and I don't want to succumb to the masses, having to do something on V'day. Face it...no restaurants are going to have discounts. They would only up the price! If F and I were to do something it would be any other day. I mean graduating could be special? hahaha. Yeh...sorry it's just lame.

Year of the Earth Rat - Happy CNY!
Friday. 2.8.08 1:24 am
Gong Hey Fatt Choy! To all those who celebrate chinese new year! This year is the year of the Earth Rat. I'm a wooden rat, but it is still a rat year! ehehe. I'm pretty glad that this year has come cuz it marks another 12 years of my life. Now that I am turning 24 in March. It is realization that I have come so far from the time I was 12, back in Primary school, having not a care in the world...biggest fear was probably starting high school and now my biggest fear is owning a house. How it changes so dramatically!

This is a description of a person born in the year of a Rat:
Being the first sign of the Chinese zodiacs, rats are leaders, pioneers and conquerors. They are charming, passionate, charismatic, practical and hardworking. Rat people are endowed with great leadership skills and are the most highly organized, meticulous, and systematic of the twelve signs. Intelligent and cunning at the same time, rats are highly ambitious and strong-willed people who are keen and unapologetic promoters of their own agendas, which often include money and power. They are energetic and versatile and can usually find their way around obstacles, and adapt to various environments easily. A rat's natural charm and sharp demeanor make it an appealing friend for almost anyone, but rats are usually highly exclusive and selective when choosing friends and so often have only a few very close friends whom they trust.

Behind the smiles and charm, rats can be terribly obstinate and controlling, insisting on having things their way no matter what the cost. These people tend to have immense control of their emotions, which they may use as a tool to manipulate and exploit others, both emotionally and mentally. Rats are masters of mind games and can be very dangerous, calculative and downright cruel if the need arises. Quick-tempered and aggressive, they will not think twice about exacting revenge on those that hurt them in any way. Rats need to learn to relax sometimes, as they can be quite obsessed with detail, intolerant and strict, demanding order, obedience, and perfection.

Rats consider others before themselves, at least sometimes, and avoid forcing their ideas onto others. Rats are fair in their dealings and expect the same from others in return, and can be deeply affronted if they feel they have been deceived or that their trust has been abused. Sometimes they set their targets too high, whether in relation to their friends or in their career. But as the years pass, they will become more idealistic and tolerant. If they can develop their sense of self and realize it leaves room for others in their life as well, Rats can find true happiness.

According to tradition, Rats often carry heavy karma and at some point in life may face an identity crisis or some kind of feeling of guilt. Rats are said to often have to work very long and hard for everything they may earn or have in life. However, a Rat born during the day is said to have things a bit easier than those who are born at night. Traditionally, Rats born during the night may face extreme hardships and suffering throughout life. Rats in general should guard themselves against hedonism, as it may lead to self-destruction. Gambling, alcohol and drugs tend to be great temptations to Rat natives.

Please feel free to check your Chinese Horoscope here.

Plus this is the first CNY for lil Sofia. She was dressed in Red, with a cute chinese top and we went to have our reunion dinner at Malaysia Garden. It was a nice setting with lots of babies about. And we had a feast of seafood which was quite rich for the stomach! Sofia got her first ang pow (red packet with money!) and it was my first time to give to my brothers haha. It was weird, cuz now that I am married I no longer receive ang pows but give them to those who are not married. :/

This week I have felt a lil better about the whole car situation. Yet I am still annoyed at the back of my mind. Since last year I was pretty lucky, this yr I feel I will be unlucky :/
