Ok ok...I am taking this topic from Oprah. A topic about self image, typically the racial kind. Everyone has their hang ups about their body image, and it is mainly relates with their cultural identity. It is crazy how we find something beautiful about another culture, but to that culture, that aspect is 'ugly'.

For example the Asian eyes, so many of my asian friends hate their eyes and the way they slant and look so small. I have also been disgusted at the way my eyes look, so squinty when I smile, a slit, with short lashes and a small double eyelid. Some don't even have a double eyelid crease!!! But I was shocked to learn that people find my eyes beautiful??? HAHAHA, it makes me laugh, cuz I think they are bluffing. Funny how the #1 operation an asian lady would get, and it is considered ok, a rite of passage is the removal of fat from the eyelid to create a crease. The reason for the crease is to make the eyes appear bigger!

Also for asians, having fair skin is a big thing! When I go to Malaysia, they love my fair complexion, but when I am in Australia people ask why am I so white and pale. Like I look unhealthy or sick. I don't like the way some random asian people ask about Sofia, as if there is something wrong with her physically, like a disability - 'Why is your baby so dark?' 'Did you drink coffee whilst you were pregnant?'. It's in a condescending tone. And I hate it!!! There is nothing wrong with my daughter, she has a natural beautiful tan, unlike me! Whereas Australians comment on how cute she is without pinpointing any so called "faults".

Women especially have this tendency...to look at others and then criticise themselves. Even the most beautiful women have complaints about their body. Sometimes these distract them from achieving big things!! And that's sad. I am still not 100% ok with my appearance, but I'm so much better than I was when I was 19. It is a big step for me to start wearing miniskirts and shorts recently. lol! In a way marriage and having a child, has made me grow up mentally...and accept my life and myself as the way it is. And that truely makes me happy!!

I hope to raise my daughter to be a solid person, who knows that she is beautiful being a mixed child. She doesn't have to have boos about her tanned skin, or her asian nose etc. She has big beautiful brown eyes, and they don't have to be blue. She has black, shiny hair that doesn't need to be golden. Being ethnic and mixed doesn't label a person as being 'second grade'. The main thing that matters is the person who she is inside, her identity and her values.

Toys for 2008
Thursday. 1.2.08 1:23 pm
There's a few things that me and Fernando have been wanting to get for a long time now. We should be saving up for a house but instead we are going shopping lol. Somethings we definitely need for 2008, to organise our lives. Cuz 2007 was just an unpredictable rollercoaster that I don't want repeated!! These things will help us live our lives a lil easier ;)

So here are some reasons to buy 'our stuff' this year:

Number One
APPLE iMAC 24 inch

We need this to organise all the photos and videos of 2007, at the moment they are all locked up in our 500gb external hd. And we haven't printed out any. But the most important reason is for F to use it for his graphic design and illustrations.

Number Two
APPLE iPHONE

My current Nokia mobile phone is in tatters! The number keys are all scratched and it is hard to make out the two, seven and zero key. Too much texting I think. Plus the batt life is almost up. It would be great to get an iphone cuz it is sooo hot and had many useful features!

Number Three
New Car - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X 2008

We definitely need one of these!! A proper 4 door car, that is family friendly, safe and gets us from A to B. Our current car is just full of dust, no aircon, driver's door is broken (can't unlock!) and the wheels are practically falling off!

Number Four

LG ART COOL air con

This we need RIGHT NOW! The average temperature in Perth atm is 35 degrees. Today is 40!! Our room is hot, stuffy, has 3 people in it. We need our aircon to have a proper sleep and relax after a tiring day at work.

And I'm sure there were more on the list, but these are the top things we would like in 2008.There is no harm in wishing hahaha. I guess we just have to work extra hard to get them. ;)

Goodbye 2007...you were very surprising
Tuesday. 01.01.08 11:13 am
What a year it has been! The most exciting year of my life! It has been the talk amongst many people, especially my close friends, family and those who generally know me. I have accomplished more in my life than any other year, I had hoped to do it slowly throughout my life but I managed to knock some milestones off in 2007.

1) Got my permanent level 4 position at DIAC
2) My friend Erin was the first to get married in our group in February
3) I got married to Fernando in May
4) I gave birth to Sofia in August
5) I took a trip to Malaysia with my new lil family in November
6) Passed all my final units in December and graduated
7) My friend Heidi got married in December

A lot of people have asked how I am gonna top that year with 2008!! I think being 23, and going through so much I feel quite old and tired. I think I will take a break this yr and try not to achieve too much hahaha. I need to remind myself to have fun and be a 23 yr old.

Best Wishes to all!!! Have a happy and healthy 2008!

too much fun!
Monday. 12.31.07 12:21am
I am up late again tonight. Yesterday was heaps of fun. I had a couple of drinks...and I mean 2 last night to celebrate my best friend's 24th bday. It was really good, cuz it was a dress up and had a lot of games organised. Not like our usual parties where there's music and alcohol. Now there's even jelly wrestling, sing star, and heaps more!

Fernando and I haven't really let loose this year, we have had been so tied up and into our role as new parents. But Sofia was taken care of by her grandparents so we could enjoy our time being 23 year olds. I haven't drank properly in over a year, and to have 2 drinks was more than enough!

The theme of the party was 'Naughty or Nice' so you can imagine what we dressed up as. I don't really like dress ups, it kinda makes me think too hard about what to do. I don't like going out and buying new clothes or costume for the party. So I just fish stuff out from the closet and be creative. I dunno what to do for NYE though, gonna have Sofia with us, so it will prob be another house party.

Extra toasty xmas 07
Thursday. 12.27.07 2:58 am
OMG! It was so hot this Christmas...it was almost disgusting. Disgusting cuz it ruined a lot of things. Like sweating heaps, melted chocolate, really hot cars, piercing sunshine, cooking over the stove and oven. It was not pleasent AT ALL! To top it off Perth had its hottest day ever on Boxing Day, 44 degrees :( And we went out to a brunch and drove home around the hottest time of the day. Yucky!

Sofia had a great time though on xmas night, opening pressies and going out to her uncle Carlos's house during the day. It was the first time us young people prepared a proper meal, cuz F's mum was in the US. The turkey was perfect, cooked on a weber, salad and my idea of having pavlova as a dessert received much praise :) It was a typical aussie Christmas, with lots of alcohol, seafood and fresh fruit. A dip in a pool would have topped it all off. I mainly wanted it to be special for Sofia, even though she may not remember any of it.

I think the heat was getting to me cuz over the past two days I have been really moody and not into the spirit. Especially cuz people around my age no longer embraces the spirit of Christmas. I went to midnight mass this yr too, at my primary school church with my best friend, Mish...and that really made it Chrismassy. I just get annoyed when ppl who do not believe in religion tell you it is pointless and losers go there. It pisses me off cuz they have no clue why they are having a day off. They just want to eat loads and get drunk and never give a thought to the true meaning. *sigh* It's about peace, joy and happiness. A lot of people just think bout themselves and wallow in their self pity..."poor me". Such a load of crap, they can't have one day off to think about others rather than themselves. But I can't be bothered to say anything or change their mind about that...

So I won't get into it further...I can't wait for the new year, to see what else is in store for 2008 that could possibly top off 2007! lol! Hope you are all having a safe, happy and fun time this holiday season. PEACE!

oooooohhhh Im so excited!!
Sunday. 12.23.07 4:52pm
I am so glad NUTANG is up and running again! I have been such a facebook junkie, I was overdosing and getting so bored checking on friend's pages that haven't been updated yet. I've been superpoking here and there, sending hatching eggs and growing gifts galore! hahaha. It's great it is finally up, I really missed my NUTANG community. Most of all I missed blogging, it is so hard to find another place to vent when I need to.

So much has happened since the last entry. I HAVE FINALLY GRADUATED! After all that stress in the past year I have passed my exams. And I did it with a baby in my belly and walking down the aisle and working at the same time. I could not be more prouder of myself and what I have accomplished. I'm truely contented and happy at this point in time. Now I know there is nothing else in my life that can drag me down, cuz I know I can do anything if I set my heart and mind to it ;)

Only 2 more days to Christmas, and it will be time to reflect on 2007...what a year it has been! Honestly...to me I would call it a lifetime! It is so hot today...and xmas wil be 38 degrees! I'm not looking forward to the heat but really wanna catch up with friends and family who I have not really given much time to this yr. Cuz I have been caught up with my issues. Anyways that's all I really wanted to say..even though I thought I would have more to say..

Here's a photo of Sofia in Malaysia, where we went for holidays in Nov.
