2009 schedule
Wednesday. 1.14.09 10pm
Every year since Sofia was born I have been making an annual schedule where I plan out the 12 months with 'things to accomplish'. Funny how I try and organise my life but on a daily basis it seems so unorganise! I find planning a year ia actually easier than planning a day! Because a lot can happen in a day and things can be thrown in at the last minute.

So I know this may be boring but I will give you a run down:

January
Fernando's 25th Bday
New OHS section in DIAC is being formed - expect changes in work

February
Trip to Jakarta, Semarang & Bali
Plan furniture for house
F to land a job

March
My 25th Birthday
Try for new baby

April
Easter holidays
Packing for new house

May
Move into new house
celebrate 2nd year anniversary

June
House warming party

July
Tax return

August
Sofia's 2nd birthday

September
Possible road trip up North

October
rest month

November
Start Maternity leave

December
Christmas/NY
Expect new baby

I am sure there are couple more things I forgot to write down. They will come to mind during the year and therefore 2009 will be another exciting year of my life YAY! I will remain positive in both my work and family life. I will try and be a charitable, compassionate, caring human being. I will have a face of an angel and spirit of steel, that cannot be broken down or faltered. I believe that good things happen to good people. And vice versa...so I am just gonna be as nice as I can to those who treat me well and I will not have the patience for those who are rude, arrogant, lazy and demanding. :) Is that so much to ask??

Dawn of a new year - 2009
Friday. 1.2.09 1:57 pm
I know the 'dawn of a new year' has passed. But it was such a funny night that I need to recall. I felt really bad putting Sofia into 'care' of her abuela (grandmother in Spanish) because she has not been with her for very long periods. Also I thought Sofia would freak out and start crying. The way I had to sneak out of the house so I could attend Gail's bday/NY Eve party was so bad...I felt like the guilt was burning in me. I shed a tear when I left the driveway...cuz I felt like I had deceived her, even though she was in good hands.

Anyways got to Gail's house and she was already tipsy, there weren't many people this time. As Gail's parties are usually wild, loud and a bit silly. With the alco influence Gail was not happy about the turn out and vocalised it in a loud manner. I think it scared some new guests. Also she was messaging all the people who did not turn up, but they were attending other new year's eve parties. I had one cup of passion pop (cheap wine) and was just as silly as her. Honestly, 10 people on alco turned into a coraboree (Aboriginal dance session). Also Mishy was there, so I got to catch up with her a little bit and Heidi came at the very end of the night.

We got some really funny photos of us being fools, and Gail's cousin had bought her a bling dildo so we took some shocking pics with that. hehe I shall post them up soon. I wanted to leave straight after midnight, cuz Sofia was also getting sick I wanted to be with her. Fernando wasn't too pleased with the 'early' finish to the night, and I guess he wanted to spend time with his friends too. But all I could think of was Sofia. I can't help it, I felt too guilty.

What a start to the year, full of cussing, and hate for 2008...or that was just my friends... lol! I quite enjoyed 2008 and can't wait for 2009 to bring a lot of dreams to reality. Hope everyone had a fantastic start to their new year! Take care...and all the best!! Think positive, write your goals down and you WILL achieve them. :) Lotsa love xoxo

Christmas stuffing!
Friday. 12.26.08 10:43PM
I went to midnight mass again this year, I think I will make it a tradition where I will attend church at least for this special occasion. I am a catholic but not a very devout one. I do believe in God, Jesus Christ and prayer...but I just don't think I have to go to church every Sunday to prove I am a catholic. This year I managed to drag F along, he could hardly stay awake to drive to the Sacred Heart Church in Thornlie (my primary school's church). But when he was there I think he secretly enjoyed it, hehe, well I hoped so anyways. I know he sang 'Silent Night' as it was the last song. I also attend midnight mass each year because I get to see my friend Michelle and Gail and we catch up for a bit.

On Christmas morning, it was mayhem. I was cooking like an absolute maniac because we were holding a Christmas lunch for some family friends who had just migrated to Perth from Malaysia. They really appreciated the celebrations of Christmas as the hype isn't really big over there. I also had to cook a few dishes this year for my in-law's dinner so I have been rather busy in the kitchen. Sofia was just soaking it all in, she is beginning to understand the idea of 'Christmas'. And enjoys singing along to Christmas Carols and ripping open presents.

In the evening we went to my in-laws to have dinner...I was already quite full from the seafood lunch. And now it was a big turkey dinner! Sofia was not behaving too well at the in-laws so I had to accompany her most of the time. She is becoming very clingy and only wants mum! I found it hard to relax at all on Christmas day, and was thankful to come back home around 11:30pm and spend some time with F just chilling.

I didn't really get many presents this yr, but I didn't really have anything in mind that I needed or wanted. Presents are overrated as you get older. I was really happy to see Sofia's face light up when she opened her presents to find many 'DORA' toys.

I am dreading the return to work after my holidays on the 29th Dec. I just want to chill and have a longer holiday. It just makes me fear the amount of work I have to catch up and the stress that may come along with it. I just have to not let it affect my cheery holiday mood. :) Also a bit scared of what the new year will bring...I have so many plans and I can feel it is gonna be a big one. Oh yea...on Christmas day we went to check out our piece of land, and it now has a slab on it!! WOOHOO! The dream is slowly becoming a reality!

Budget airlines - pet hate!
Tuesday. 12.23.08 11:37 pm

My cousin, Melissa and husband, Ben

Sofia & Fernando

My cousins from the East states

We flew on tiger airways to Melbourne and I really did not enjoy it. The times available for the flight were at strange hours, and the cheapest was at midnight. My body clock was out of whack when we arrived in Melb, I had to spend the whole day recovering. With Sofia on board the plane, it was a nightmare! 3.5 hours of being stuck in a tiny seat and having her on my lap sleeping was a pain! I could not move for those 3.5 hours and ended up with cramps and pins & needles... she cried whenever I had to move to get circulation into my arm!

Anyways...the Melb trip was a short one, we only spent 5 days there but it was worth it. At first I really didn't like the big city feel and experienced the unfriendliness of BIG city folk. But by the end of it I had an overall good experience, the shop assistants were actually most friendly and chatty..but I guess it's cuz they want your business.

We stayed with my Auntie on the first night, in the suburbs - Templestowe. I couldn't believe how far it took us to get to the city because we caught the taxi and it came to $50!! Then the next 3 nights we stayed at the Crown Towers, which were a luxurious stay. I am so glad we got that for free, I enjoyed my time being in city central and enjoying the facilities of the hotel. However, strange enough...I did not step one foot into the Casino. I did check out the shops and restaurants though...hehe they took my fancy the most. I did shock myself though, cuz I didn't do much shopping as I thought I would. I guess I didn't see any great bargains...so I didn't buy much.

On the second night I went to my cous's hen's night at Copacabana, a Brazilian restaurant. We had heaps of fun, the restaurant was one of a kind. First there was a buffet, and waiters coming around with meat on a large skewer where they would slice off whatever meat you requested. Then the drinks, capirinhas galore! Next the entertainment, hot guys and girls dancing the salsa, rnb and capoeira on the stage! I really appreciated that aspect of Melbourne, having themed restaurants and amazing places to eat out. I also had some Vietnamese Beef Pho in the main city whilst I was there, sooooo delicious! Had some coffee and cake at a cafe on the Yarra River. And bought back some Krispy Kremes to Perth.

My cousin's wedding was held at the National Gallery of Victoria. Strange choice, being stuck in the middle of the city. But it was a small wedding with about 90 guests of close family and friends. It was a good chance to catch up with my mother's side, the aunties and cousins. Some I haven't seen in 15 years, and we clicked so easily on the night. It could have also been the wine I was drinking that made me extra chatty. :) We finished around midnight, and I was surprised that Sofia had held on for that long...she was grumpy but loosened up by the end of the night and was giggling.

It was a nice experience my first trip to the East. I hope to do it again maybe next year?? Maybe Sydney next? I do love living in Perth though, I don't think I will be moving any time soon to the East, too busy for me.

build up till Christmas
Sunday. 12.14.08 9:16am
This year I am feeling more chrismassy than other years, I guess it is because I have a lot of things happening like flying to Melbourne for my cousin's wedding, and then coming back and spending it with my immediate family, then with the in laws. On Boxing day there is a plan to see family friends, and then on the 27th it's Mel's birthday party and she would have just come back from Hawaii. On the 31st Gail is holding her bday/NY eve party and I will have a chance to catch up with some of the girls.

Even though it all sounds a lil hectic, I feel it is my time to relax and forget about work for a lil while. On Friday night, DIAC held it's Christmas party at the Northbridge hotel. The Social club organises this once a year and most of the time they do a good job of promoting it and minimising the costs as much as they can. Because it is a government agency, and our boss does not have profits to spend on a Christmas party. Although I do think he gets paid BIG bucks, that he should at least buy something or subsidise some stuff so he can reward the poor, hard working staff in our building.

Anyways...my job is going for an upward turn now...I had some very nice comments from my claimants saying that they feel happy with their job and themselves because of the support they are getting. I hope it's because of my kind and caring approach that makes them feel that they can trust me to help them out. I don't think the managers like my approach very much, but I think it works...rather than talking down to someone, forcing them when they can't be forced. And I often get frustrated at these people. There is nothing wrong with being firm, but they shouldn't be degrading people when they speak.

Things at home have been good, Fernando and I have decided to go walking every evening for at least 1/2 hour to an hour to try and lose some of the belly fat before the trip to Melbourne. I just hope we can fit into our old formal clothes or then we will have to buy new threads in Melbourne. We also spent our christmas money for each other on a new digital SLR, the Nikon D90. But I can't believe it has been a week and it is still sitting in its box! I want to open it, but with Sofia running around it will be a hard to stop her lil fingers from grabbing lil parts and also screaming because she will be curious to hold it. Must remember to buy an even cooler Christmas present for her so she will be distracted from the D90.
