The place where I work doesn’t allow solicitation. I never understood why until I realized it’s like the children’s book If you Give a Mouse a Cookie. I learned my lesson after the first time since they travel in packs when it comes to office buildings it seems. Today I felt really bad for turning away a woman, ok I didn’t. I found her “goods”, a Valentine’s Day gift, to be very sad. I’m sorry she and her husband can’t work because of health issues, but come on. I made better Valentine’s Day gifts when I was in kindergarten. She only accepted cash so we all know it’s not going to be on her taxes since people on disability can’t work/earn money and get full benefits at the same time. Normally I would have bought one to help out, but something seemed very wrong. Her story didn’t seem right. I rarely get that sort of feeling when people tell me their sob stories, but when I do I go with it since I’m usually right.

While this has nothing to do with the above I just had to mention it. I hate commercials. Sometimes they can be entertaining, but otherwise I only watch stuff I’ve DVRed so I can skip through them. Rarely do I find myself in a position where I watch something “live”. Has anyone seen the KIA commercial where they sing the song from Sound of Music? I will now never ever buy a KIA. Even if the choice is a KIA and riding a bike, I’ll ride the bike. Ever since I first saw it I couldn’t help, but cringe. I mean it was almost as bad as when I saw the commercials for Last Exile on G4 (Tech TV back in the day) and they kept pronouncing Claus’ name wrong. My boyfriend would laugh as I screamed at the TV, “His name is CLAUS! Like Santa Claus! You speak English for crying out loud get it right! The Japanese people can why can’t you?” The new Carl’s Jr. commercial for their milk shakes have also made it impossible for me to listen to that song without thinking of two white guys trying to shake a cow. What happened to the old Carl’s Jr. commercials? Not the over the top too sexual ones, but the “old school” ones. /sigh

My favorite commercial by far has to be one for Volvo. They’ve been showing a lot with the theme “Who would you buy a Volvo for?” My favorite has to be where the dad is picking up his little girl and she’s telling her story and going non-stop. He doesn’t want to miss a second of it, but she’s just not stopping. It makes me smile. It also reminds me of me when I was little. It also makes me feel bad for my mom for having to put up with me. I told her stories constantly of my day, ones I made up and of dreams I had the night before. Then again when I showed the commercial to my boyfriend and said, “That was me as a kid!” Without a second thought he said, “Not much has changed huh?” Maybe that is why he quit asking how my day went without me asking how his went first...

After reading kKama67’s comment, “Church is actually fun. It’s a good social event where people are usually nice to each other.”, on Nuttz’s blog I decided to approach this subject. It’s one I never was going to since I feel the best way to ruin any friendship or bring tension to it is bring up religion or politics. If you have to watch kids to pass time you need a new church. You aren’t supposed to be people watching to pass the time by. A good church will have someone who’s speech on any topic will draw you in and make you want to not miss a word that’s said. It will have songs that make you want to participate instead of just faking it. I am glad you find your church so fun and entertaining though. It isn’t like that for all and not everyone finds it to be a “social event”.

I hated church. I went to a church where a good 80+% of the people were very well off for most of my childhood. I hated going to Sunday school. I hated our youth pastor. I hated how he would convince my mom that I should join their youth crap and that it would be good for me. I was shy and hated the uneasy feeling that I got around the kids my age. I was too young to be let into the adult groups where I felt more comfortable and they wouldn’t make any exceptions. What could be said in a Bible study that a child could not hear? What went on in the adult groups that would ban kids from joining? Unless they were really watching porn kids should be allowed to join. They would make fun of my clothes because I wore heels and dresses or skirts. I LIKE HEELS! I miss my heels. I miss my cute little strappy sandals in the spring and summer. /sigh I didn’t make fun of them for wearing preppy Gap and Old Navy clothes or Docs did I? No, that’s what they liked. They were snobby and wouldn’t say a word to me normally, but would at church... A bunch of freakin’ hypocrites the lot of them.

I used to argue with the youth pastor because he couldn’t fully explain questions I had on Christianity. He would quote scriptures, but that never answered why. Why is it wrong for two people who are fully committed to live together? Why is marriage so important? If you personally ask God to recognize your relationship without a wedding is that not enough? Does God demand that we pay a fee to the church, pastor and feed our friends and family before he will bless our relationship? Why? Why do people call God just and fair when that’s not who God is? Have you read the 10 Commandments or the Old Testament? I thought I was a persnickety person. Needless to say after so many questions of why and with so many arguments we just quit talking to each other. I was sick of his lame reasons that never answered “why” and I think he was just sick of me all together, which really is not very Christian like, but completely understandable. :)

Please don’t misunderstand me. I have no problem with people who are religious. Most would consider me religious since I do believe in God, Jesus, heaven, hell, etc. I just refuse to be connected to a set religion since I find them all flawed. I’d rather be a hypocrite, sleep in on Sunday and do all sorts of non-Christian things guilt free knowing I am not making a set religion look bad then do it and be tied to one. (Yeah it goes back to the whole “If you can’t do it perfectly or damn close don’t do it at all.) You’re supposed to be setting an example and I just suck at that sort of thing. I am not a good example maker. I’m easily paranoid, a gimp and a boarder line workaholic. Honestly if it wasn’t for my boyfriend I would work 7 days a week. He reminds me to enjoy my time off and to not forget my hobbies.
