And so it begins...

So a co-worker of mine is now playing WoW. There are some people out there who are the casual player, there are some who are hardcore and some who can go either way. Personally I have the personality of a hardcore player, but I suck at playing the game of politics which is something you need when you get into the higher levels and join a guild. It was my problem with EQ and it's still a problem of mine. Which is a reason why I love the company I work in, no need to play some stupid political game since I suck at it.

Any ways, my co-worker has the hardcore gamer type of personality. He's just started the game and I already see him going down the slippery slope of being totally addicted. I'm worried for him. I played EQ and was totally hooked. I knew people that were totally hooked. I mean I was in PR where you were either hardcore or it wasn't the guild for you. I see the warning signs. He's only had the game for a short time and he's already asked my (well my husband's) advice on if he should upgrade his computer because people were talking about the great graphics. He's already broken his pact with his girlfriend and visa versa, making calls to his girlfriend about the game, texting a lot, the way he comes to work in the morning, etc.

Any fighting game or interactive game is great when your life has a lot of stress like his does right now, but not when it's an online game that can suck you in and make you addicted. I wish he had taken my advice and played just plain ol' Warcraft 3. I plan on keeping my eye out more and if he gets really sucked in then I will say something to him. I don't want him to lose his job and get sucked into a game like I saw many other people do.

Well the rest of my birthday gifts are starting to arrive. I received both volume 3-4 of Embracing Love in the mail today!!! I really love this series, I'll probably buy the first two volumes of it later on too. Then I just have to wait for volume 6 to be released for my last birthday gift. I'm a bit miffed at Amazon though. They've changed the shipping date 4 times. I can't believe such a large company can be off THAT much. I mean they've been around how long and have handled how many releases? You'd think they could do their job a bit better. They keep saying they are shipping me these volumes with no extra shipping charge, but I somehow don't believe them so we'll see when it's all said and done.

I also almost got T-boned coming home today. I got off early and when I went to make a right hand turn (the light was green) some short little Asian woman almost runs into me! It seems right hand turns are no longer safe for me. At least she wasn't in a big truck, but she could barely see over her steering wheel! People shouldn't be allowed to buy or drive cars that they can't see very well over the steering wheel. Like on your license it should say anything above a Honda Civic forbidden or something.

Well the last news I have to share is for any of you manga lovers and website designers out there Animanga Network (my website) is holding a website layout contest! You can either go to Animanga or to the SnS Forum for the rules and prizes!

Kirikiri mai.

I feel as if I've been running in circles. I've cancelled our reservation at Pine Resort since it wasn't what I thought it was going to be so now I have one thing to plan again that I thought was set up and could be taken care of in January. I'm now thinking of having it at either Wawona or a nice resturant. Wawona would only happen if I could get them to give our guests killer prices for rooms. It's a long way away for all of my guests and it may just not be worth the nice atmosphere. If it's going to be at a resturant I'll need to shop around. There are a lot of places to consider. One of them being a place I used to work at, The Vineyard. The cook there is really nice and I think he's a great chef. The party room they have set up has a nice view of the owner's small vineyard and also the chef's personal herb and vegetable garden. I adore their garden salads, mainly because of the special sweet pickled red cabage they put in their salads. YUM!

So handling the commissions where I work has really helped me see the benefits of investing, saving and budgeting. I want to be like them when I get older, well financially that is. After talking to a couple of co-workers I have been told of two more things we should budget for and ways to save. You know the saying, "With age comes wisdom." Well that's my co-workers. I get to work with some incredibly smart and knowledgable people who don't mind passing it onto me. It's extremely helpful since I want to use my "fresh start" to the fullest.

So my husband and I have set our new financial goals. I knew if we didn't set them now and tried to do it after we bought a house we'd never be able to do it. None of it will happen until after we've paid off our two smaller credit cards. They don't have much on them and for how much we pay monthly combined on them it's well worth the wait. The goals we've set means we won't be able to buy a house until who knows when, but it's not like we live in a dump or anything. I thought about moving into a smaller apartment, but the thought left my mind when both my husband and I had to go to the bathroom at the same time. Also since everywhere I looked is 3-5 times away from where my husband works it means a huge increase in our gas prices and that would really chop our savings of moving to a smaller place. So here's what we've decided:

1) We will start saving 10% of our gross income (income before anything is taken out). That money will be put into a savings account until we have 1 month's worth of wages in there plus one month. That will then move into a savings account at a different bank where we won't touch it and after a while when it's more reasonable for us we'll make sure 3 months is in there. Then we will start putting 5% into my husband's 401K (they have a matching system) and the other 5% will go into savings. As soon as we have enough for a high interest CD we will open one and put the interest aside for computer upgrades, new toys for me and our dream vacation trip to AnimeTokyo! Ok, so it's not my husband's dream vacation, but I need someone to carry all of the manga I'd be buying there! XD In all seriousness we do want to go to Japan, but in two trips. One in spring to do a real hanami and one in the fall for all of the great food! My "friend" said whenever I'm ready he'll help me plan a great trip. He can't make arrangements and find me a discount for older traditional hotels, but everything else he can help out with!

2) We will put aside 70 dollars a month for car expenses. This will be for oil changes, having our cars detailed, car renewals, etc. There will always be more then enough in the savings, but something after our warranty is gone might happen that's costly. Better safe then sorry.

Ok, so there aren't a lot of new financial goals, the basic and main one is to always stay within our budget, but considering what we make it's a start.

I'm still unsure about what house to aim for. I like where the Camden has the laundry room, but unless we live there for 10 years or more it's unrealistic to buy a house most people wouldn't care for and doesn't give us a room for a guest, you never know hell could freeze over and someone could want to stay. I like the Primrose, but I dislike the fact the laundry is right next to the master and guest bedroom door without even a short wall to help block the noise. They have another floor plan I like called Fontaine. It's not an ideal floorplan and the house is more expensive (of course), but for that to happen we would have to spend a lot more for land, a builder and an architect.

I've decided not to consider the McMillin homes or the Cambridge homes. Not that the homes weren't nice, but their location reminds me of what happened to my uncle. He bought a new track home that were next to an area that wasn't really bad, but definitely wasn't a safe feeling area. It could go either way and well it became a not so nice area of town. By the time he decided he wanted to get out it was too late and now he's put in so much money into his house he can't make nearly enough if he ever sold it. The McMillin and Cambridge homes have floor plans that I like better, but I don't want to gamble with something so important. When people saying buying a house is all about location, location, location they aren't kidding.

The other builder I am considering is Bonadelle. The company's a local builder like Wathen and Castanos, but the homes I looked at today were definitely more expensive and without a gated community. I found three floor plans I liked, but as I walked through they didn't jump out at me like the European Grove did. The first floor plan I like is what they call 1514. (They name them by how many sq. ft. the home has.) The floor plan is very simplistic and I like the door from the master to the backyard, but I just don't care for the smaller guest bedroom. I guess since I don't have kids nor guests I find a den more practical. I wonder if they would just make that smaller bedroom into a den...

The next house I like of the choices is 1606. I didn't care for how ackward the space in the living room is. These homes were build for people with flat screen TVs. I like the layout for the kitchen a lot. It flowed well and made a lot of sense. The nook is nice, not sure what we'd do with it since we don't eat at a table and when we get up in the morning and have breakfast he's at his computer and I'm watching Voyager. The only reason why I consider it is because of the door to the backyard from the master bedroom and the kitchen.

The plan I liked the most is 2124. I love it when the entry is raised higher then the rest of the house, I find it more inviting and elegant. It had a den and because of the space they give the tub a step could easily be placed/built in the front. This is really one of a few floor plans that allow for a step in front of the tub to be placed without getting in the way. Their bathrooms are a bit...odd. I mean their bathtubs were HUGE, but they weren't sunk into the floor so how the hell do you get into them? They didn't have a step for anyone to get in and out of them. I could definitely see myself almost killing myself and then having to explain to my co-workers why I'm in a neck brace...and once again being called "crash" for who knows how long. XD

None of it really matters much since anything more then the 1514 is just waaaay too much space for my husband and I. We don't even use all of the space we have right now at 950! Also none of this matters until we finished paying off some credit cards, put our financial plan into full swing and make enough to afford a house. I wish some of the fixer-upers were low enough to consider. They are all still close to what the Camden home costs which makes me not even consider them.
