The new receptionist take…how many have we gone through?
So we have a new receptionist. This is the 5th one, I think. Well no one can say the company I work for hires based on looks. Then again we knew that from the fact they had hired "penguin lady". She's a woman who worked for our sister company. She waddled back and forth like a penguin and her arms never moved either. It was amusing. I've never seen someone walk without any arm movement before.
Based on looks I'm surprised they hired the one they did. I was sure it would be the first person. She was the youngest out of the three, but after speaking to her I'm not so surprised. She's older so I'm once again the youngest. She's nice and sociable, but who knows when that might change. She's only worked here for 3 days. I used to be nice and sociable too, but when you work with a bunch of smartass people your humor starts to become twisted. Oh wait...mine already was from living with my mommy.
I'm not overly impressed with her, but it may just be that it took her almost 2 hours to sort a small stack of mail. The sad part was that when she had a "few" questions it was really questions on almost all of the mail! I wonder how long it would take her on a normal day's amount. God I dread to find out. She takes notes and seems to follow them, but we'll see. I haven't received a vibe from her like I did the last one yet so hopefully it will work out.
Oh yeah I'm...what's a good term...um...blackmailing Suke and Fangli. I told them I wouldn't order anything with my birthday money until they tell me what they want for their birthday. (Two manga volumes for each of them and I plan on ordering some Pocky that they can't get either that they seemed interested in when we made a Pocky thread at SnS.) MUWHAHAHAHA! I'm very stubborn and strong willed when I'm set in my ways so it will be interesting how long it takes for them to "break" and tell me what they want. Hopefully it happens before their birthday!

The importance of your name.
The more I think about it the more I feel that Japan and other cultures that put more importance in people's names and use honorifics have it right. We give out our first name as if it's nothing to anyone. It holds no real importance and is treated as if it's just something to call you then "hey you".
We have no honorifics to give to people besides Mr., Mrs. Ms. and Miss. How often do YOU use them? We have nothing to show who you respect, like, or how close you are to someone. You have no idea how close others feel you are to them and visa versa. When you're introduced to John Doe, do you call him John or Mr. Doe? I know I've never called any of my boss' Mr. before, even in the interview.
How close does your friend really think you two are? Are you close and intimate enough to be in a first name basis if he or she had a choice? Would you let X person call you by your first name if you had a choice? I know many people I would have stop calling me by my first name.
Our new receptionist came the other day. I'll post more on her sometime this weekend.
