New Look and more links!
Sunday. 1.27.08 1:00 pm
Ok so I totally remixed the look! I am still working on it and I do have links for homeless shelters for ALL the states including DC! Of course, I want to keep adding on to those links, but no one is leaving any comments or sending me links! The links are on the right of the posts and each state is in ALL CAPS and a lighter shade of the font color than the regular type face--I give all the credit to Blogrolling.com for that!

In my next post, I will have a shelter from the link list to the right chosen for the Art4TheHomeless Homeless Shelter Award--sorry no monetary prize yet since I am broke but I will send the shelter an html image badge for the award--one I created of course--and tell you more about the shelter, how to contact them and what their specific needs are but first I need my readers to leave comments and show America that you care! After all, what if it was YOU who were about to be evicted from your home? Remember, the average age of a homeless person in America is only 9 years old--a mere child, and the age is only going to drop if we don't put a stop to this crisis.

MLK Holiday
Monday. 1.21.08 4:11 pm
School is out for us in Atlanta for the Martlin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. There was a march, but I didn't get to go--I was asleep. So I took advantage of the free computers and put up links to shelters! I only have a few states to go as I have stopped at Texas and of course, I will continue to add shelters because there are many, many more that I have here.

Atlanta Job Corps Blog
Friday. 1.18.08 2:31 pm
Ok so I made this blog about Atlanta Job Corps--good and bad things. I only did it because I wanted change in the center and I think I accomplished that goal. However, I did not want to "slander" the Job Corps name and I didn't, even though I have been accused of this many times by other students and the few staff who know that I was the one who created the site. Yes, the living conditions are horrible, yes they could do better and what I wanted the blog to be was a motivator--to motivate us students and staff to do better! We went 3 days without hot water during the Christmas break. Staff have been told about the situation and I called the radio station. Homeless shelters even have hot water! I know, because I have lived in them! Within a few hours, the hot water was back on. I talked about that with the Center Directer and I apoligized for the site--but it expressed how I felt, and I definetly want to move forward. I have no grudge against Job Corps and never did, I just wanted change--for the better. Always for the better. And that is why I have this blog. America sucks when it comes to organizeing--the government I mean. Look at what happened during Katrina! Look at our economy--it sucks! Look at the average age of a homeless person--only 9 years old. A child.

I know that our CD is only one person and she is human and can only do so much. I was wrong in taking some of the blame on her and I apologized to her for that. The last thing I wanted to do was to make her feel bad or "cause the Atlanta center to be shut down"

Students depend on Job Corps--and I am one of them. On the blog, I was accused of not saying anything good about the program but I just want to argue that I did--more than once. In fact, my first sentence in the first post proclaimed what a great program Job Corps is.

Death
Sunday. 12.30.07 8:55 pm
It happens to everyone. I just don't like to witness it in person. Job corps took us to Golden Corral tonight and while we were eating, I heard screams for help. What happened was that a lady had a seizure and we were informed that she died. The paramedics did the shock thing, but the ambulance left without the sirens loud. Her little girl was screaming, "Mommy!" I will never forget that.

I met the singer from Silk!!!
Friday. 12.28.07 1:16 pm

Job Corps took us to Cracker Barrel today where we met the singer from Silk and (I think) his girlfriend. Her name is Melinda or Belinda--I just heard the linda part. So you know I had to tell him about Art4the homeless and he said he would check it out when he got time which is totally awesome. I would love to give both of them a piece of my art--for free-- because I am just that kind of person. I briefly told him my goal with my art. I had to keep it brief because they were eating and his lady seemed a little impatient and I don't blame her. Gotta give it up for her for having the patience in dating a celeb--if she is his girl. I am just assuming she is. Most of the people in my group barely even spoke to her which I found rude. I introduced myself to both of them and I hope that people will be more courteous to celebrities and their friends/relatives/spouses/dating partners when they see them with the celebs. It was cool that he gave me his autograph and took a picture with me. It was awesome!! That made my day today.

May God bless them both!

Now for the update on my mother. I have heard from her two days ago and she told me that Laurent, her boyfriend lied to her about Grady Hospital not giving him his meds--which sounded totally wack anyways. It turnes out that he refused and according to my mom, he wants to kill her and me so now I have to be careful since he knows that TCU school is downtown and he has been there before. I had to let my inctructor know and a few of the girls who people mistake for me know. I don't want anything happening to my peers because of my mother and her situations. That would be blood on my hands as well. So please keep her in in your prayers.

peace

Johnna
