About Art4TheHomeless
Imagine... a movement inspired by the arts to open the eyes of Americans to the plight of their own people. Imagine, through art, music and poetry, we are shining a much needed light on our own crisis: HOMELESSNESS

Art4TheHomeless was once a blog called Colors of Ink with Blogcharm, which closed down. Nutang, became the new home of Colors of Ink and was renamed Art4TheHomeless, by a really good friend, Samantha Medd. She is now the Co-Founder of Art4TH.

Now Art4TH is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization that unites artists of all venues to promote homeless awareness in the US.

Art4TH does this through the Art4TH Webzine, a monthly online magazine that features a musician whose music plays throughout the website, a feature artist, and a feature writer while also featuring a homeless relief organization. All artists featured retain their copyrights and all of it is free. If you would like to be a featured artist, musician, or writer contact me at [email protected]

I stabbed my mother today...
Monday. 12.29.08 11:13 pm
Well she asked me to... and if you wanna get technical about it then I didn't stab her. I shot her. The weapon of choice was a fine needle and it didn't even draw blood.

It was weird. I gave her a shot of insulin for the first time. So I can say that in 2008, I shot/stabbed my mother because she asked me to. I did something this year that I have never done before. Now why don't you try something new?

I am sitting here just thinking of where Art4TH needs to go. I want to make it work for everyone and am not quite sure how.

Art4TH Zine features homeless help agencies by using the arts--artwork, photography, writing and poetry, and music. I am doing well with the zine but would like to have more writers!!

The Homeless Network hasn't really been noticed yet, but it does help those who have been on the site so I want to encourage you to check it out. It has info on your rights, shelters, medical care, food, and much more.

The blog, (here) is doing great. I am almost up to $11.00!!!! When I get to $100 I will split it up between homeless shelters (10 of them) and I thank each of my readers, and NuTang commenters for that!

I am starting to do well on Zazzle--that is my online art gallery. Anyone can buy my art and I give ALL my profits to the homeless. My first payout was with PayPal but since my password doesn't work I can't get to the $3.00 and change but now they have the option of writing a check and I can substitute a homeless shelter for my address :)

I also have a Squidoo lens or a few but am not sure how to work with those just yet. I am still learning. I am also in the market for a new job--I know, so is everyone else. I have a job, but I don't get many hours.

Also have a MySpace so if any one wants to add me feel free!!

The New Year is upon us and my number one resolution is to make Art4TheHomeless well known. I am working on promotional--hand painted stuff to post all over the city because I can't afford Kinko's-- ideas. I also have Twitter so is you want to follow Art4TH go to
http://www.twitter.com/art4thehomeless

Without Art4Th, I would have no purpose in life. This is what I want to do with my life--my favorite thing is art and I have a heart for the homeless. So let's do this yall! Art4TH is nothing without YOU.

Christmas!!
Thursday. 12.25.08 3:22 pm
I feel so great despite waking up with my nose stopped up. I got this cold when I slept on the cold hospital floor-the little chairs were so uncomfortable. Anyway, am treating it with benadryl, food, chocolate, and lots of paint.

The paint is going on this medicine cabinet that I found. Someone threw it out so I am fixing it up into a work of art and plan to donate it to Habitat for Humanity. I am sooo excited about this. I am painting it red and will have Japanese calligraphy on it--was going to go for Sanskrit, but people may be more comfortable with the familiar Asian theme for prosperity, love, hope, etc.

I started on it yesterday so I will spend my holiday with a paint brush in tow and ink stained fingertips.

I didn't get much for Christmas--an Obama tee from my friend Denise in Little 5 Points. My friend Melissa said she is sending me something in the mail and my coworker told me she was getting me something. I did get an email from Darude wishing me a merry Christmas right on Christmas morning :D : D He is my fave musician of all time. go to http://www.myspace.com/darude to see him

I was supposed to participate in the Secret Santa thing at work but had three back to back family emergencies I ran out of money. I did get to give Denise and Latay; a hair stylist in the same building with Denise, something for the holidays. I made a mirror for Latay and a heart shaped box for Denise. I get my check tomorrow if the boss is around to sign them. I will definitely put money on the phone bill, was going to get my moms meds because the doctor ordered a week's worth of them but we were just looking at them and she got a monthly worth instead--a Christmas gift from the hospital? Cool. She get's her disability around the third so that will get her meds and some rent. I can use the extra money from that to get Marta and head down to L5P to visit with Denise and check on my art down there.

I got my big Christmas wish--to see my mom healty and that's all that matters to me.

I want to thank each and every one of yall who commented and sent me well wishes and prayers. *hugs*

Mom's outta the hospital!
Wednesday. 12.24.08 2:29 am
We just got back from the hospital a few hours ago. She is fine and the Cath results came in saying that she has blockages around the heart, but the docs are hopeful that pills can cure it :) Looks like Christmas dinner is on!

Aditya, I don't hate you and I never will, but I am not really interested in friendship since I am recovering from the last relationship I had. Thanks for the kind email.

Early this week I woke up and my mom was having trouble breathing. She has been n the hospital ever since. She has emphysema pneumonia copd and a weak heart. They are going to do a Cather on her and see if it is her heart or a blockage in her blood vessels. If the Cather goes well, she may be released Tuesday..if not, well I am going to take it one day at a time. Last week her boyfriend had a mental breakdown n is missing. Sometimes you just gotta let em go and hope they will come back one day...
Saturday. 12.13.08 4:47 pm
My mother's boyfriend has had a mental breakdown. We had to kick him out because he refused psychological treatment. He has family here in town and according to him, they wanted nothing to do with him. We found out that it was the opposite. His family had reported him missing a looong time ago and were worried about him.

He was never dangerous, but was like a toddler. He threw away things, paced around. I saw him by the Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless and he looked right at me but didn't recognize me. He started break dancing in the middle of the road like he did before when he and my mother were both on the streets.

He was in the navy and we (his family and my mom and I) think that something had happened to him. According to him, he worked on a nuclear submarine and all, and he is very intelligent.

He asked security to our building if he could get his Veterans ID from me and I gave the guard his ID. The guard called us back later and told us that he(my mom's boo) decided that he didn't want the ID so security is holding it for their files and will be returning it to us soon. I will then give it to his uncle who basically welcomed my mother and I into the family.

My mom is grieving and I am too--I am just not letting her see my pain. Her boyfriend, whose name I am not mentioning due privacy matters, was like an older brother to me.

Mental illness is one of the many causes of homelessness. There is no cure unless you choose to live. It is against the law for a hospital or doctor force you to take the needed meds and many families don't want to deal with the drama of you insisting you are fine and going crazy as a result of you not taking your meds.

We love him and it's cold out there, but if he wanted, he could have gone to a hospital. He refuses treatment and unless he becomes suicidal or a threat to society, then there is nothing we can do but watch him destroy himself.
