Put in my time
Saturday. 1.20.07 7:48 pm
watching: nutang homepage
listening to: traffic outside my window
mood: exausted

I have been working like a dog during my vacation and I still have work piling up! I was thinking of going in to work tomorrow (sunday) just to catch up. Of course nobody will know that I am there therefore I will not get paid for it but I will have peace of mind at work on monday.

Is this a bad idea? Will this bring down my value at my job? Will my boss take me for granted even more because I did work for free??

She told them boy was dead

She told them boy was dead

Montel Williams' psychic pal Sylvia Browne told the family of missing Shawn Hornbeck he was dead shortly after the Missouri boy vanished - and later allegedly offered to help locate his body for $700 per half hour.

The popular TV clairvoyant appeared on the "Montel Williams Show" in February 2003, four months after Shawn disappeared, and told Pam and Craig Akers she believed their son was "no longer with us."

She also advised that his body could be found in a wooded area 20 miles from their Richwoods, Mo., home, near two large jagged boulders.

Shawn, now 15, was found alive and well last Friday, living just miles away with a man now charged with snatching the boy when he was 11.

New York City will install new technology to allow 911 centers to receive images from cell phones. Citizens will be able to send still images or videos from camera phones or computers, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.

The city joins several other municipalities that are testing similar services, though it is probably the largest to try such a project.

Bloomberg said this week he hopes to expand the technology to eventually serve the city's 311 services, used to report quality-of-life problems like potholes.

New Yorkers have already used their phones to take a bite out of crime; Newsday reported that in 2005 two schoolgirls snapped a picture of a subway flasher with a cell phone, and gave it to police, who tracked down and arrested the man.

Retirement Party
Friday. 1.19.07 11:24 am
Today I am suppose to be on vacation spending time with my family in Hawaii eating some really good food. But instead I am HERE at work busting my ass! A long time employee of my job is retiring today and everyone is making a big "hoo-ha" about her last day. They ordered cake and brought food, made a memory book and doing a photo slide show. They wanted me to make something for the memory book but I have no time. I have my nose to the grindstone and these people are buying party decorations and having a great time.

It is so annoying!

Cancelled my vacation
Thursday. 1.18.07 2:48 pm
Work is such a pain in the ass right now! I had to cancel my vacation to see my family in hawaii because of a software problem. It was not my fault but I am now responsible to pick up the pieces and clean the mess. I hate this place because I do alot and there is no compensation. I just really feel like I am being crapped on! I have a degree. I should not HAVE to eat crap! Shit I hate it!

Grilled Fish Tacos with Mango and Avocado Salsa Recipe
Wednesday. 1.17.07 11:20 am

This recipe serves: 6
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 8 minutes

For the mango-avocado salsa:
1 1/2 avocados
1/3 cup fresh lime juice
1 1/2 cups diced mango
1/3 cup diced red pepper
1/3 cup chopped scallions

For the fish:
1 tablespoon canola oil
3 fish fillets, such as sea bass, red snapper or salmon, about 8 ounces each
salt to taste
freshly ground black pepper

For the tacos:
12 corn tortillas
1 1/2 cups shredded lettuce
3 plum tomatoes, diced
lime wedges, for garnish

Cooking Instructions

For the mango-avocado salsa:
1. Remove and discard the pit and skin from the avocados and rub the flesh of the avocado with some of the lime juice to prevent it from discoloring.
2. Chop the avocado and toss it with the remaining lime juice, mango, red pepper and scallions. (The salsa can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 day.)

For the fish:
3. Preheat the grill.
4. Brush the fillets with oil and season generously with salt and pepper.
5. Grill the fillets on both sides until just cooked through, about 5 minutes per side. (Thin fillets take less time, thicker fillets take more.) Cool slightly and cut into 1-inch pieces.
6. Meanwhile, separate the tortillas into 2 stacks, wrap them in foil and warm them on the grill while the salmon is cooking.
7. Fill the tortillas with fish, lettuce, tomatoes and mango-avocado salsa. Serve 2 tacos per person with lime wedges on the side.
