Emotions and Alcoholism
Wednesday. 11.29.06 11:17 am

Researchers have developed a new study which measures the brain activity in the frontal regions of the brain. This part is said to be responsible for the differences in emotions with respect to our personality. Of course an imbalance in this area could indicate an imbalbnce in emotion and motivation.

Researchers are concerned with how our emotionality relates to alcohol dependance. They have been using an EEG (electroencephalogram) to test the brain activitiy of the individuals in their test group. A person with depression will have a condition known as EEG asymmetry. The key is to figure out if this is related to alcoholism.

"We found that alcoholics had lower brain activity in left frontal areas relative to right frontal areas, as measured by EEG, when compared to nonalcoholics," said Hayden. "This is interesting because left frontal activity may reflect brain systems involved in acquiring rewards and the positive moods we feel when we obtain a desirable object or goal. Conversely, right frontal activity may be involved in inhibiting behavior in the face of negative consequences and the anxiety we feel in those circumstances." This imbalance, she speculated, may be genetically based -- at least partially. An important next step in this line of research would be to see whether the same is true of frontal brain activity in alcoholism, possibly by looking at the children of alcoholics."

I THOUGHT THAT PEOPLE BECOME ALCOHOLICS BECAUSE THEY ARE DEPRESSED.

Refurbished iPod supply dwindles
Apple's refurbished iPod offerings have dwindled to just two items following the busiest shopping day of the year. The company's 4GB iPod nano ($149) and its iPod Hi-Fi ($299) appear as the only remaining refurbished iPod-related items in the U.S.

From Women For Women
Tuesday. 11.28.06 12:46 pm
All women want to know the key to success. How do we define ourselves in society? Well, an article I read, written by Barbara Moss, answers such questions.

A survey was conducted. Included in this survey were accomplished, university-educated women in their late 30s to mid-50s. Some held senior positions in business, government and the not-for-profit and cultural sectors. Some had left marquee jobs to pursue a passion -- start a business, write or follow other personal interests. These were the top 5 answers.

1. Know yourself. This knowledge is the foundationf for making effective career and life decisions. If your job does not require your best skills or calls for you to act like someone you aren't, find another role.

2. Act on what is most important to you. Refuse to put on the back burner the things you care deeply about. Make a date with yourself at the end of each week and ask: What did I learn? Which of my values are being met? Looking to the future: How can I make my work a better fit with what I need? Don't drift. Make conscious decisions. Defend your personal time aggressively. Start thinking about the legacy you want to leave.

3. Maintain your integrity Stay firm on the issues that go to the core of what you believe in.

4. Distinguish between the big issues and the smaller ones Ask yourself, "Is this really important?" As tempting as it can be to let it rip, consider the consequences. Similarly, be open to influence.

5. Dont make work the centerpiece of your identity Many survey respondents regretted having put their work before their personal lives and having made too many sacrifices for their jobs. You can't cuddle or giggle with your job at the end of the day.

Here is an article I found in the healthy living section of Life Script.

Carpal Tunnel: A Diabetes Warning Sign?
Monday, November 27, 2006

Coming down with carpal tunnel syndrome can be an early indicator of type 2 diabetes, a surprising new study finds. Published in the journal Diabetes Care, the study by British researchers finds that wrist nerve problems can predict the onset of diabetes by up to 10 years. Previous studies have linked type 2 diabetes to a host of nerve disorders. In the current study, researchers estimated that being diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome can raise the risk that a person will develop type 2 diabetes by about 36%. The facial paralysis disorder known as Bell's palsy was also identified as an additional diabetes risk factor.

Handheld Porn
Monday. 11.27.06 6:39 pm
According to Jupiter Research,in the next 5 years mobile media will start using mobile phones to promote porn. Porn has used every other type of media such as cable, satelite, and the web so why not handhelds?

Of course there are techniques and market forces that have not yet been thought of for this type of media however, don't think that this will lock out the industry.

Panda Poop profits Thai Zoo
Monday. 11.27.06 9:46 am

What do you you do with 55 pounds of panda poop? That is the combined amout of feces produced by chuang chuang and lin hui, the pandas at the Thai zoo. Prasertsak Buntragulpoontawee came up with the idea of turning it all into notebooks, fans, bookmarks and key chains.

These multicolored paper products have proven to be a hot selling item at the zoo. As of today the zoo has earned 8,200 helping to balance the accounts of keeping the pandas.

HOW IS THIS DONE??
Panda poop paper production involves a daylong process of cleaning the feces, boiling it in a soda solution, bleaching it with chlorine and drying it under the sun. Experimentation continues on how to reduce the chemicals now used.

IF SELLING POOP PAPER IS SUCH A SUCCESS WHY NOT SELL IT OUTSIDE OF THE ZOO?
"We tried selling it on markets outside but so far with not so much success," he says. "But in the zoo, when people see real pandas and then their product they're excited and buy."

You wont catch me buying any paper made out of feces. I dont care if you cleaned in boiling soda solution. ha ha.

That damn "Happy Feet:
Sunday. 11.26.06 10:41 pm
That damn movie made me cry. I had to view it for what it really was and that is another reason for liberals to make humans feel guilty for everything; like cruelty to animals and next they will blame us for global warming. Most of all, penguins DONT sing or dance!
