About Art4TheHomeless
Imagine... a movement inspired by the arts to open the eyes of Americans to the plight of their own people. Imagine, through art, music and poetry, we are shining a much needed light on our own crisis: HOMELESSNESS

Art4TheHomeless was once a blog called Colors of Ink with Blogcharm, which closed down. Nutang, became the new home of Colors of Ink and was renamed Art4TheHomeless, by a really good friend, Samantha Medd. She is now the Co-Founder of Art4TH.

Now Art4TH is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization that unites artists of all venues to promote homeless awareness in the US.

Art4TH does this through the Art4TH Webzine, a monthly online magazine that features a musician whose music plays throughout the website, a feature artist, and a feature writer while also featuring a homeless relief organization. All artists featured retain their copyrights and all of it is free. If you would like to be a featured artist, musician, or writer contact me at [email protected]

It could be you

I feel inspired to write about this today. Many people don't realize that the homeless, is not just the average panhandler on the train or at the library begging for change. I see them everyday here in Atlanta, but the City of Atlanta has no love for the homeless. The homeless, to them, are the crack addicts who attack the tourists, who dirty the streets with their stench, who have shooting sprees at night by the main shelter: and YOU can't tell me they don't because I live by the shelter. America sees the homeless as a disease when in reality IT COULD BE YOU. Many Americans are ONE PAYCHECK AWAY FROM BEING HOMELESS. I was homeless when I was nine years old but I AM NO DISEASE. We need to change the way America sees the homeless.

Wandered all over Atlanta on Saturday

I went to Decatur, Candler Park and Inman Park areas just looking at art and trying to find a place to sell my art--to benefit shelters of course. I did meet some really cool people who said they would drop by here and check it out. I haven't been painting much--mostly making my own jewelry--a new gift that I am discovering. I am pretty good at wrapping beads and stuff in silver and copper wire. I came out with some nifty looking things--unique jewelry that no one else has :)

My favorite artist, Darude has a new album out called "Label This" It totally rocks you got to get it. I don't think its out in the States yet, but its out in Europe. I emailed him and told him that I loved his song, "Dreams" its so soothing and melodious. You can check out his site for more info: http://www.darude.com

My boss found out that my mother and I were on the streets and paid our rent for a week. He also said that he would make sure that I would get enough hours to not only pay the rent, but pay him back as well though I haven't been working since Sunday....I hope I do get to work tomorrow! I am still working on the ezine and am changing the look for the September edition.

Now onto more positive issues, I would like to thank the churches that helped us over the weekend. Shaw Temple A.M.E. Zion Church from Smyrna, GA and Turner Monumental Church of Atlanta, GA fed us and helped us while we were out there over the weekend. So did the Salvation Army and SafeHouse outreach. Google them if you want to and help them. Let's all help those who help each other. This is my American Dream.

Art4TH wants to become a 501c3 Nonprofit and has already taken the first step: Incorporating Art4TH with the State of GA. Now here come's the next step: File form 1023 with the IRS and pay $350 for the filing fee. Right now, Art4TH has around $80 raised going toward that goal: we need $272 more and Art4TH is selling digital art prints for $2.00 to raise some of the money. Also, Art4TH is taking donations. Donations WILL be tax deductible ONLY AFTER IRS Confirmation of 501c3 Nonprofit status.

If you wish to purchase $2.00 prints from Art4TH go to http://art4thehomeless.etsy.com

IF YOU WISH TO MAKE A DONATION go to

I am feeling so positive today! I do want to share the joy with everyone. Today has been a great day--great report from the doctors visit--well her coumidan levels were a tad bit on the high side but that means that her bloods thin enough to get that clot out but its back to normal or will be :)

Art4TH is doing great. I printed out the IRS 1023 form and have been working on it. I am not going to send it off or date it until the full $350 is raised but I am almost at $100 with only $250 more to go and it WILL come.

Earlier this week, I was feeling discouraged, wondering where the money will come from, wondering if my mother will be okay, things like that. I put it out of my mind and focus on the good things--not just the things I am trying to do, but the blessings in my life--we have shelter, food, clothing, health, I have a job, means to create, and we have friends who support us. What I have is priceless and I am not going to take it for granted. I thank God, the Creator, for His divine gifts, and want to send some of these positive vibes to everyone who reads my blog.

My first post
Saturday. 6.23.07 11:38 pm
Hi all. My name is Johnna Crider and this blog is called Colors of Ink and it is about helping the homeless. My goal is to raise $1000 by blogging to help shelters all across the US so I need everyone to comment.

I tried this with Blogcharm.com for a year and it didn't work out. Blogcharm owes me $30 and didn't pay out like they said they would so I am moving it.

Colors of Ink will have some of my art, and pictuers, and will also have links to various homeless shelters in your community. So everyone, if you have a link to a shelter leave me a comment. I am also posting a guestbook for those who are not members of Nutang so they will be able to post as well. I want Colors of Ink to be a source of information that would help a homeless person find help.

As you can see, Colors of Ink is still under construction but comments are ALWAYS welcome.

8 new links up
Sunday. 6.24.07 12:05 pm
Ok yall I have 4 new links up under the Federal Homeless Programs section and 4 new links up for Alabama Homeless Links. They are links to the US Interagency Council on Homelessness, HUD, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation United States and the Department of Education: Education for Homeless Children.

Two of the Alabam links are lists of homeless shelters in the state and one of thoses links has a map. One link is to the Friendship Mission operating out of Montgomery, AL and the Downtown Rescue Mission operating out of Huntsville, AL. These last two shelter do accept paypal, so I encourage you to donate if you have the extra $$

I will be working on more links for the states as I want to have links for people in all 50 States. The more people who come here and find help, the better. I will get paid for them coming and that money will be going to homeless shelters across the US.

If you have any links you want to see, feel free to contact me. If you are not a member of Nutang, don't worry, I am working on a guestbook where you can leave a homeless link.

New York Mayor Bloomberg helps the poor/ New link up for the State of Louisiana
Monday. 6.25.07 9:01 am
I was watching the news this morning and instead of the usual murders and car accidents, some good news came forth. Mayor Bloomberg is giving money to the impoverished Americans of his city if they make healthy choices. The money comes from his private funds that he and his staff raised up just for this project.

There was one Democrat critizing saying that it was giving the poor an excuse to be poor which I think was totally stupid of her and made her look bad. He is doing much more than she is in my opinion. He is doing what every American who can afford it should do: help his fellow citizens.

I applaud you, Mayor Bloomberg. We need more leaders like you in America.

Here is a news link if you want to see the article.

Mayor Bloomberg

I also have a link up for the Homeless Links for the State of Louisiana--my friend Cassie emailed me the link and it is a pdf upload of homeless shelters and organizations. I will also have more links up for Louisiana coming soon. URL
