Lazy Days...
Tuesday. 2.19.08 12:56 pm
Hooray, we have a whole week off. I was going to start looking for work today, but it's already noon and I don't think I have much time for job-hunting what with the time squeeze. Time squeeze, you ask? Because I need at least two hours for travel, my mother gets off work at about 5pm, and I need to be home or at least able to give her a definitive answer on where I am whenever it is she calls me. Instead, I may actually do the household chores for once.

[ooh, don't forget to buy Baush&Lomb contacts solution...]

Why two hours? Why not anywhere near my house or somewhere nearer with less time wasted on the train? Because starting next week, I'll be taking night classes. So I am looking for daytime part-time. Why only part? When else will I open my books and start, let alone, finish my assignments! My schedule is now a bit of a time crunch.

I'm thinking of getting late morning to early afternoon shifts. That way, I have a few hours in the morning for books, travel?, work, travel?, books/lunch-dinner, class.

I also have to re-study. I registered for the March SAT. Yes, I've already taken it. This is just for my uncle who is an asshole. Just to make sure I get the best score I could possibly get and have something to throw back at him when he gives me his "I'm a genius/THE genius of the family" speech again. Which is a definite. Unlike other, well, most things in my life.

In other news, a beloved celebrity is dead. I can't believe it. She has been a staple in the culture for a very long time. We knew it was coming, of course, but it doens't make it less sad. I'm not crying or anything, but I'm sure her daughter is and the girl is around my own age. Poor dear.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now I am off to my fridge...perhaps I'll re-heat the two-day-old Mickey D Filet o' Fish...
March SAT??
And you're a Senior? I didn't even know they'd let you retake it this late into the year, most colleges need to have applications in by then, and they ALL require official SAT scores.
Wait....let me guess. Your uncle is that stereotypical asian relative who is never satsified with your achievements?? I retook the SAT as well (but I had legitimate reasons...my first scores sucked), and my dad bought a buttload of those textbooks and junk. The thing about the SAT is it tests your inherint logical skills. You can just "learn" to think smarter. It's stupid. I somehow did 100 better for no apparent reason, so maybe you'll have the same luck!
Crap, this reminds me I have to job search as welll....
Who died? I'm a little bit out of the loop when it comes to pop culture, I try and stay away from that sort of thing o_0
oh, haha!
I forgot to say: she's a Chinese celeb. Look it up and you'll probably find who. It'll be everywhere you look soon enough--if it's ture, that is. A reporter friend called up HK and says it's true, but who knows.
Ohh
Well I'm pretty disconnected from my heritage...I don't know any asian celebrities. And I'm even running pretty short on American celebrities too lol.
Yeah I filled out the FAFSA January 1st....my dad was really on the ball with the whole thing. And then I decided to use my pin number to log back into my application and take a look at all my dad's financial assets. It was interesting. I wish he'd tell me some of these things.
THE SAT BLOWS!
Not because it's difficult, but because we're led to believe that everything is riding on it! (And maybe it is, but I certainly could have done without that sort of do-or-die pressure on my head.)
Sometimes I wonder if I screwed up the curve for my family. I don't have the gall to tell everyone in my family that I'm the smart one, but they seem to talk about it a lot and in the process build some sort of myth around me and my accomplishments. It sucks for my sister in 6th grade because I catch my mom comparing the both of us, which isn't really fair to her. I mean, I'm proud of my accomplishments, but I'm also proud of my sister's, and I think it's counterproductive to have a yardstick that you're measured to whenever you do something. I was lucky because I HAD no yardstick, but my sister and the rest of my cousins do now. It's also a lot of pressure on me because I know there are all these eyes on me, watching to see if I screw up.
Basically, I think we shouldn't be compared against other people because it creates stress for both parties involved in the comparison, but I guess in many Asian families, culture precludes this from happening... :(
R:C
My sister gets annoyed with my mom when she does the comparing thing, but it doesn't seem to translate into a hatred for me, which is fortunate. I take her side whenever that happens anyway, because like I said, it's totally not fair to judge someone based on the merits of others.
I'm sure it will be tougher for her once I leave again for grad school, but I hope she doesn't let my mom get to her TOO much.
I never took the SATs because I couldn't afford it when the time came. I don't think I need to take it to get into a CC, but I'm going to double check to make sure. good luck finding a job! =]
Thanks Silvy. And if you need help putting music on here, let me know. I can give you the code I'm using for mine and explain how to upload songs to it.
Would I know this celebrity? I just found out that the guy from Jaws died a few days ago. (the 10th.) Which I didn't know.
» Nuttz on 2008-02-19 09:01:55
So... you're sort of in college right now? That's really cool... To be able to work and go to night classes.
» Nuttz on 2008-02-19 09:21:39
wish u all the best getting a part time job. don't try to get waitressing job since u r always on-call... have fun working and studying.
» renaye on 2008-02-19 10:00:38
Well, here's the code. Problem with this code is you have to upload your song somewhere. I just put my music onto my website and link straight to the file. Not sure where you can find to upload it.
