    Lil Kim

Lil Kim is set to take the stage at this year's VH1 Hip-Hop Honors in a tribute to pioneering rapper MC Lyte.

The Brooklyn-born MC will be rocking the mic to honor her fellow Brooklynite in what will be her first performance since being released from prison.

As previously reported by SOHH, the rapper was convicted of perjury in 2005 and served 10 months in jail in connection with a shooting that took place outside of New York's Hot 97 studios in 2001.

The Queen Bee will perform MC Lyte's hit "Lyte As A Rock" at the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors, which will take place on October 7 in New York City.

"MC Lyte is at the top of the list when you talk about hip-hop pioneers," Lil' Kim said in a statement issued on Tuesday. "She paved the way for myself and any of today's greatest MCs. I'm honored to have the opportunity to show my respect and how she influenced me."

Lil Kim will not be the only one paying her respect to legendary hip-hop artists during the event. Ludacris, OutKast, Diddy, Da Brat, Fat Joe and Lil Jon will also be participating in this year's festivities as they show their appreciation for ground breaking artists like Ice Cube, the Wu-Tang Clan, Afrika Bambaataa, Russell Simmons, Rakim, The Beastie Boys and the late Eazy-E.

The show is set to air on VH1 on October 17

    Flavor Flav

One of the lucky ladies from the first season of "Flavor of Love" has won another moment in the spotlight.

According to the entertainment magazine Variety VH1 is planning a spinoff of "Flavor of Love" starring one of the female oddballs from the series' first season.

The show will work similarly to ABC's "The Bachelorette" while incorporating some of the zany elements that have popularized "Flavor of Love." Viewers can expect a diverse cast of male contestants - ranging from lawyers to rappers and even the unemployed, all in competition for the love of Flav's former romantic interest.

While the network still hasn't disclosed which "Flavor of Love" contestant has been picked to star, VH1 has already approved production for 10 episodes of the currently untitled spinoff series. Production is scheduled to begin at the end of September, with the show airing in 2007.

"Flavor of Love" and "Flavor of Love 2" executive producers Mark Cronin and Chris Abrego who are also producing the new series, have decided that after two seasons it may be time to put the "Flavor of Love" series to rest.

"We are developing new show ideas with him," Chris Abrego said. "We think it's time for him to do something new. He's funny and a likable character."

As SOHH previously reported, Flav's first solo album, entitled Flavor Flav! is due out on October 31st on his Drayton Records label.

Currently in its second season, "Flavor of Love" airs on Sunday nights on VH1.

In the meantime we've got some new joints by Ruben Studdard, Kanye Westfeaturing John Mayer, Janet Jackson and some remixes you may have forgotten about.

Janet's latest leak, "Roll Witchu," is a smooth R&B track. A lot of people are feeling it, but it's only going to be on the Japanese version of 20Y.O. as a bonus track. Have a listen:

What say you? Rush it or flush it?
(anybody hear Janet on Miss Jones' Hot 97 Morning Show today?)

Ruben Studdard is trying to find an entry on your playlist. On "Don't Quit On Me" he teamed up with Swizz Beatz. Check it out:

What say you? Are we doing anything with Ruben? Should he just stay put where he is?
Rush it or flush it? You gotta admit this track is a good look for Ruben.

The last of this week's new joints may not be new to some of you. I found this Kanye West track that features John Mayer called "Bittersweet". It's on Kanye's Second Semester mixtape. Kinda short, but it's Kanye so at least give it a listen if you haven't heard it already.

Y'all know the drill... RUSH or FLUSH?

Also, music fiend nOvaslim put together another SOHH Soulful Mix for us, this time it's all remixes. Check out his blend of remixes. It's over 100 minutes of remixes of a lot of old favorites that you've either forgotten about or that you've never heard.

Remember when a remix was really a remix. Chicks like Mariah Carey would go back into the studio and record brand new vocals, sometimes new lyrics for tracks. Mariah is the queen of the remix. Mary J. is up there too. I can't stand a remix where it's just the vocals sped up or slowed down and simply awkwardly laid over a new beat. Do some work mothafuggas.... get back to doing good remixes. Stop putting Yung Joc and Dem Franchize Boyz on your original tracks. Y'all know Monica's "Everytime The Beat Drops" woulda been hot if it were a remix of something that flexes her vocals a little more.
