Janet, Beyonce and Tina... Don't Gag, Sh*t Happens
    Wednesday. 10.4.06 9:58 pm
Last night I went to the Fat Joe listening session held at the Virgin Records cafeteria hosted by Joe himself. As Joe's bangin' new set filled the air, so did this weird eeri-ness that something just wasn't right.

There was a lot of whispering, some of it was in agreement that Me, Myself and I is some of Joe's best shit yet. That joint with him and the Game is sure to be a hit. However the majority of the people there were talking about how Janet Jackson didn't debut at #1 according to Hits Daily Double. Some wondered would the numbers be massaged a little for the more official Billboard report. Funny thing is, Def Jam had already claimed their victory. As we walked up to the Virgin Records office, Ludacris' street team had covered the entire block with his posters as if 5th Avenue were Peachtree Street or Camberton Road.

A lot of people are gagging this morning. Some heads should roll. One in particular being [CENSORED]. That negro should be the first to go. He's turned down major promotional ideas and he'd been overheard saying in days prior, "I don't need her to sell big numbers, I just need her to debut at #1." Just another example of them resting on their laurels and underestimating the fans and the competition.

Beyonce and Tina Knowles seemed to have gagged themselves when CBS reporter Dorothy Tucker sat down to interview the two ladies about the clothing line House of Dereon. Tucker asked a few easy questions about who the line was designed for and why did they choose Chicago as a place to promote it etc. Then shorly thereafter Tucker went in for the kill.

    From MTV News:

"They're beautiful [clothes]," she started, "but the next question — I don't quite understand it, and maybe you guys can explain it for me — your clothes are sold in about a dozen stores in the Chicago area. We did get a phone call from a couple of those stores who said they had to send the production back, that there was a poor fit, the tops weren't ..."

As soon as Tucker started raising the concerns she'd heard from local retailers, Tina Knowles cut her off — and asked that the videotape that had been rolling be cut off as well. "Why would you — wait, wait, wait — we're going to cut that off. Why would you do that? You're here to interview us about the clothes, in a positive light."

In true fashion, Beyonce sat there blank faced. Watch the video and read full story here.

Conversely that hate fest, is eclipsed by this love fest.

Damn, what it must feel like to be this chick. We put them through hell!

But whatever... the new joint of the day is "Private" One Chance featuring Akon (produced by Ryan Leslie).

LOl. See that is the interview that we were talking about yesterday. Or was it the other day. Someone fire TINA. And while you're at it, staple a size chart to BEYONCE's forhead, so she can remember what it is to be bootylicious. I must say that my Dereon jeans are fitting type nicely. But the shirts are wayyyyyy off. No booby room.

As far as JANET goes, I have always been under the impression that she doesn't do so well out the gate, but once she tours, she sells. She is an artist that makes more money off of performing than album sales. So, I guess we will see in time. The numbers still do not reflect on the album's great content. It is a banger.

So Joe's album looks good & Janet got F*&^%d by her promotion team!

WTF man these majors are on some isht that aint right! No wonder all these hip hop artists are moaning about the labels when the promo team dont even care how many units you pushin!

cosign, we'll see what she does in the long run, but somebody please tell Tina to sit her ass down and stop living her life through her daughter, the clothing line sucks and Tina needs to let her daughter speak up for herself, does anyone recall how Janet fired her father as her manager, well Beyonce better get rid of her parents because they are just crazy!!!!!! but anyways I'm still gonna support Janet, but it is funny about her numbers something don't add up, we'll see what they are whenn billboard reports them.

oh yeah not feeling that Monica album.

Kanye Wants Off Def Jam? 50 and Game Kiss And Make Up?
    Wednesday. 10.4.06 9:35 pm

I've been hearing from some sources that Mr. West wants off of Def Jam pretty badly. Supposedly he's told folks that Def Jam doesn't give him full creative control of his LPs. And y'all know Kanye aint havin' that. I heard Def wasn't going to let "Crack Music" make the cut originally, but Kanye had to sweat them to get it on. It seems like everybody these days wants off -- or is getting kicked off -- of Def Jam. What's really good with the label?

And the saga continues. Game hit up Hot 97 -- well, a studio in NY since he's banned from Hot 97 offices -- Friday (Sept. 29th) night to talk to Angie Martinez. According to him, he's ready to make nice with his former friend 50 cent. He practically begged Angie Mar to get 50 to call up there so they can work out their problems on air right then and there. He said:

"[I want] just to talk and just to see where our heads are and see if maybe we can come to an even playing field -- respectfully to each other. [I want to] see if we can figure it out [as] grown-ups."

I don't know what brought this change of heart on but I guess it's a good thing...even if he is trying to continue to stir up controversy before his album drops in November. He also said that back when they were forced to makeup, right after the whole G-Unot movement hit the streets and a member of 50's crew was shot outside of Hot 97 studios, neither was ready They only did it because they were forced to, so the fued continued.

And for those of you who doubted my info last week about Game not having Dre on his album this time around, he re-confirmed it to Angie Mar:

"Dre is not on the album. No Dre involvement on this album. If you looking to buy my album just because Dre did a beat or two, leave it on the shelf."

Dude still has respect for Dre, but he's trying to make a name for himself beat wise. And word on the street is that he did actually have some joints with Dre that were going to be included originally, but he changed his mind because he doesn't want people to think his success was only due to Dre's beats.

Kanye is not leaving DEF JAM or THE ROC, he would be stupid to do so. He's just bitching....again.

Posted by: Nonsense at October 2, 2006 10:47 AM

This whole Game and 50 beef shit is wack anyway. Niggas be going to the same parties and shit talking about they gon kill each other. Both were at the VMAs and neither one of them did anything. That's why I don't take beef seriously. Once again though, much success to the Game.

    Posted by: New_Skool at October 2, 2006 10:47 AM

Oh boy, Game sounds like a woman scorned....he missess his boyfriend...LOL!!!...Didn't I say last month that these 2 should kiss & make up???...maybe he knows his album will flop without 50 & Dre.....!!!!

something really weird about the game . How can you rant and rave about someone for a year . Than try to make up

    Posted by: youngme226 at October 2, 2006 11:01 AM

IT IS OFFICIAL GAME IS OVER AND HE KNOWS IT. HE IS TRYING TO PROMOTE HIS ALBUM AND HE IS SEEING WHAT 50 SAID WAS TRUE. HE IS ON HIS OWN AND HE DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING THAT IS GOING TO CAUSE A BUZZ. HE IS FISHING NOW. HE HAS HEARD SCRAPPY'S STUFF AND HE HAS HEARD BUCK'S NEW STUFF HE KNOWS THEY ARE BANGERS AND THEY WILL SELL AND NOT FLOP. I DON;T KNOW ABOUT BANKS HE CANT SEEM TO GET ANY STEAM. 50 SAID THAT THERE WOULD BE NO DRE ON THE ALBUM NOW HE WANTS TO SAY IT WAS HIS CALL. 50 SAID HE WOULD COULD CALL IT THE DOCTOR'S ADVOCATE SO PEOPLE WOULD ASSOCIATE IT WITH DRE BUT IT SEEMS TO ME THAT DRE KNOWS 50 IS RIGHT ON THIS AND IF GAME BIT 50'S HAND HE WILL EVENTUALLY BITE DRE'S. GAME CAN TELL EVERYONE THAT 50 DID NOT MAKE HIS FIRST ALBUM HOT BUT IT OBVIOUS THAT DRE KNOWS WHO MADE IT HOT.

Bonecrusher Becomes A Fit Celebrity, Hi-FliTones Got 'Dem Gutter Ringtones
    Wednesday. 10.4.06 9:25 pm

Props go out to Bonecrusher who set The Celebrity Fit Club record for the most individual weight loss ever by dropping 19 lbs in one week, and a combined total loss of over 50 pounds.

BoneCrusher is working on a rock/rap album featuring Jim Johnson of the super producing group Usual Suspects, Good Charlotte, Billy Hume ( Lil Jon, Ludacris, David Banner, Left Front Tire, Black Crows) and Bread and Water (Tupac), to be released on his own label, Vanglorious Entertainment.

"I got a bunch of crazy black boys that like that metal shit, explains BoneCrusher. That’s why we named the band The Onslaught, and I’m not just rapping on this record, I do a little singing too."

(If he can pull this one off...But why not, Jada did it. That's what we need though, artists taking more chances and jumping outside of the "box")

He's also expected to release his new LP entitled Release The Beast on 845 Entertainment/Bodyhead featuring the lead single “Southern Gorillas”.

Last week, Atlanta-based ringtone company Hi-Fli Tones launched its new website, as well as an aggressive grassroots and viral marketing campaign. The website features ringtones from DJ Unk, Yola the Great, Shawty-Lo and Slick Pulla among others. The ringtone website is already seeing record activity and sales. Hi-Fli Tones is using its street credibility and authenticity to take the ringtone industry into uncharted territory.

Hi-Fli Tones' company's aim is to offer an array of exclusive hip hop ringtones, songs, wallpaper, videos, and more from today’s underground artists in an attempt to become the go-to spot for what’s hot on the streets.

For more information on Hi-Fli Tones, please visit www.hi-flitones.com.

C-Side and Jazze Pha Call Out All The MySpace Freaks?
    Wednesday. 10.4.06 9:20 pm

How many of y'all out there know a MySpace freak? Or better yet, how many of y'all are MySpace freaks? Yeah that's the question. If you don't know any then just holla at me and I'll put you on.

Well one of the hottest joints out right now is C-Side's "MySpace Freak" produced by Jazze Pha, and if you've hit the club in the A recently then you've probably already heard it.

Leave it up to Jazzy to put out another club banger. In the first few bars they mention that they found out Bobby and Whitney's daughter was a FREAK on Myspace...yeah buddy and 'nem are wilin' like that.

[I wouldn't have said that but to each his own I guess?]

Click on their MySpace page to hear it. You can also view the video on the page too.

Did Daz and JD Make The "So-So" Gangsta Experiment Work?
    Friday. 9.29.06 1:31 pm

Jerrmaine Dupri served as executive producer of the album. The first single is "On Some Real S***" featuring Rick Ross, and the beat on that joint is fire. I still haven't figured out where this alliance is headed, I know that there is a plan, I just haven't put my finger on it.

I'm confused because I thought that the record would have more of JD's influence with respect to the records overall flavor. It still sounds like "traditional" Daz Dillinger production and flow. Therefore, I guess their arrow is aimed out to the west coast.

Now on the production end of things, there's no denying Daz's skills, arguably Top 5 in the game right now. Afterall, he did learn from THE BEST in Dr. Dre. But lyrically....I'm telling you, can you imagine a Daz beat alongside some Redman, Lil Wayne, or T.I. vocals (on a full album).

The So So Gangsta album is a follow-up to Daz' 2000 sophomore disc "R.A.W.," which was released through his indie label Dogg Pound Records.

JD relocated So So Def to Virgin last January when he was named president of urban music at the label.

My ultimate question is this... Will Daz be able to push units here in Atlanta? Will we ever recognize a West Coast artists for his skills, and not his accent?

wtf?! top 5, u gotta be fuckin wit us right? ne way ima still cop this daz album

Posted by: dtp at September 28, 2006 11:37 AM

To me THE DAZ PRODUCTION CARRIES THE ALBUM. Most of the JERMAINE DUPRI SONGS ARE WHAT FUCK IT UP. Why is he in the background ad libbing on half the songs when it could easily be Snoop, Kurupt etc. Dogg Pound have their own style of ad libs and how they make songs. PICTURE JERMAINE DUPRI DOING YOUNG JEEZY'S AD LIBS INSTEAD OF HIM.
I'm glad it's balanced though. Jermaine Dupri should be trying to go ahead and get a piece of the west coast sound while they get money - not the other way around.
And you're right DAZ IS DEFINITELY A TOP 5 PRODUCER - THE MOST SLEPT ON.

Posted by: Enlightened at September 28, 2006 11:39 AM

about time SOHH is givin the west some spot light......thank you blog writer!

and the album is fire(a couple of skippers),but fire nonetheless.

the beat for the song "All I Need" is heated along wit "On Some Real Sh*t".
The collabo wit Kurupt is clean too...

Props to the blog writer for shining some light on the left coast. peace!

Ludacris: The Release Therapy Concert Rolls In
    Friday. 9.29.06 1:24 pm
Ludacris will bring his Release Therapy concert home tonight, as he attempts to disturb the peace at The Tabernacle. Luda's in the backstretch of his two-month tour which concludes in mid-October.

Not sure if we'll see the rest of the DTP family on stage with him but it's a good bet that we'll see a few squad members on stage at some point.

The album is doing big numbers as expected, and this tour provides a fitting close to a big week for 'Cris.

I hear lots of talk on which Ludacris album was his best etc... So here's how Release Therapy ranks among his previous efforts.

    1. Word of Mouf - Came out the gate on some Flo-Jo ishh
    2. Release Therapy - When all is said and done, one of the most complete albums done in a while)
    3. Chicken -n- Beer - Neck and neck with Word of Mouf to be honest
    3. Red Light District - I like it but I expected more from top to bottom
    4. Back For The 1st Time - Raw Luda, I think he was finding his style and where he wanted to take things

All in all, no shortcomings on any of his albums. They were were all consistent star-material, the main reason he is who he is too...consistency. The funny thing is, you can arrange these album in any order and still have a legitimate reason for doing so. That's what I mean by consistently dropping bombs.

region support has nothing to do with why people say hip hop died. It has to do with how many people and artist feels it's more a business than ever before. Also, region support has nothing to do with the way hip hop is the way it is. Listen to Hollywood divorce and tell me that's not what's happening to the game. Btw LUDA is from chicago :-).

Luda is straight fire when he's featured on another artist's track, but his albums are a little inconsistent. Bar for bar I believe he's still one of the best in the game though, but I thought Chicken N Beer was a lil mediocre. Word of Mouf was hot and so was Back For The First Time. I don't own Red Light District so I can't comment on that.
