Akon teams up with Whitney, Lil' Wayne's Outgrowing His Britches and Other Randomness
    Monday. 12.11.06 8:24 am
    What they do family?

Sorry about the blogs being down yesterday but hey, shit happens, right? The Internet is a wonderful and often times unpredictable thing. But, you're all back so obviously you understand and you won't hold that against us.

I got a lot to talk about today! First off I have been getting a lot of e-mails recently over Billboard.com's report that Akon is going to be working on Whitney Houston's up-tempo tracks from her highly anticipated come-back album. When I say "highly anticipated," I understand that's a stretch. I'm not sure if people are anticipating it because of admiration or because it could possibly resemble a vocalistic (yea I just made that word up) car crash that we couldn't turn our eyes or ears away from. No matter what the reason I'm not sure if three semi hits from Akon elevates his status to working with arguably one of the greatest voices of our time.

Let me just preface this by saying…IM NOT HATING!! But, one has to ask what in the hell is going on with music today when people like Akon, who in his own right has worked the game but makes very disposable music, gets to work with the incomparable Whitey Houston. He's no Jermaine Dupri by any means. So I'm sorry if I can't stand up on my chair and shout to the roof top about this music collaboration. He is also rumored to be working with Michael Jackson but apparently that's up in the air. Oh and by the way if you're interested in seeing Akon on tour he's going to be launching a national tour that should hit state side next year. I'll keep you posted!!

    Speaking of Jermaine…

Now that the smoke has cleared over Janet's lackluster album sales Jermaine is finally speaking out about his current relationship with the music company powerhouse. When I was as the BET Hip-Hop Music Awards in October I tried to get him to spill the beans as to where So So Def would call home. However, he gave me a generic uninteresting answer. Nevertheless, my homeboi over at Hits Daily Double gave me the scoop on Dupri's transitory music label.

Despite the lack of follow-up announcements, Jermaine Dupri's deal for his own venture at EMI is on track and should be completed soon, according to insiders, as attorney John Branca attends to the final details on Dupri's behalf. These same insiders note that the urban music entrepreneur was heavily pursued by another major as he departed from Virgin, but conversations went for naught in that Dupri was, and remains, under contract to EMI. But that issue became irrelevant when Levy and Munns made him an offer he couldn't refuse.
We've all heard about Lil Wayne's tirade lately in excerpts from Complex magazine and now here is the cover. Is Wayne getting too big for his britches? I'm sure you read Sohh.com's headline story on his recent comments about Jay-Z. Well he also talks about the gay kisses he and Baby often share. He tells the magazine:

"I don't fault nobodyfor misunderstanding. I don't understand a lot of sh**. Baby walked inthe crib one day and was like, 'Everybody's doing this black mob sh**.When I see you niggas, this is what we're gonna do.' And that's why
you've probably got a picture of me because I stuck with everything that man said. But every nigga's done that. I've done kissed [Juvenile
    and B.G.]. No homo. Pause."

So what do you all think? The thing I find most interesting about his comment isn't that he kisses Baby, but that he also kissed on Juvenile and B.G. That's interesting to me because according to this recent interview that Juvenile did with Hot 97's Kay Slay, Juvenile categorically denied ever having locked lips with any of his former down south label mates.
    o who's lying? Y'all tell me?

    Random Atlanta Rumor Control…

Though some might say that I start a lot of shit in this city with me running my mouth, I also dispel rumors when I find out something to be completely false. Contrary to published reports, Ciara DID NOT open a dance studio here in Atlanta. My source that is close to the princess of crunk music says there is no studio, however Ciara does hope to one day work on dance projects in the future.

Yo this picture has nothing to do with hip-hop but since she's about to marry a hip-hop legend in St. Bartz this weekend (allegedly) I am determined to find a way to squeeze this in… There's a bald headed horse running around somewhere in Houston. Don't believe the hype fellas (and some ladies).

Yo, it's getting about that time…

SOHH Gyant is looking for you!!

Yo, I'm doing my best to make this Atlanta spot pop with excitement, but I need your help. I believe we got a lot of talented people in the "A," more so here than any other place. I want to expose my city's great talent – and ultimately you! If you got some skills and are trying to maximize your exposure then you need to holla at me.

I'm launching "Sohh Atlanta's Own" – a great way to showcase my kats with those insane lyrical/vocal skills. Don't play yourself; Sohh is one of the biggest leading hip-hop websites on the planet. The biggest acts in the world come here to see what we say, what we're doing, and who got the skills to take the game to the next level.
Every Friday, starting December 8th, I will post the hottest talents who submit me their music in MP3 format. Make ya move, and when you get to the top you can make sure to send me a check.

    Hip-Hop Quote of the Day..

Personally, I just think rap music is the best thing out there, period. If you look at my deck in my car radio, you're always going to find a hip-hop tape; that's all I buy, that's all I live, that's all I listen to, that's all I love.

    --Eminem

Love you all like collard greens and Mojito's

    Talk to you later,

    Peace!

MLK Weekend is Over, And Boy Am I Tired. Plus, The Ying Yang Twins Touched Kicked Off Their Tour in ATL.!!
    Tuesday. 1.16.07 8:51 am

    What’s good Fam,

What a weekend! From Club 112 to the Compound, Atlanta celebrated the holiday weekend with parties, parties, and, did I mention, parties? If you don’t know you better ask somebody.

Atlanta’s party scene, on holidays, is on par with Miami and NYC. Ok, maybe not NYC, but definitely Miami. I had my hand in almost every event, so you know I’m tired. I will file my party report later on in the week. But, I got to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to the Ying Yang Twins for shutting it down at Club Fever this weekend.

Ok so, Atlanta based hip-hop group, The Ying Yang Twins, brought the house down this past weekend (early Friday morning) at Club Fever in Buckhead. They hit the ground running with their new “Chemically Imbalanced” tour. The house was pact as the “Whisper duo” played their high-octane set that included “Whisper Why You Twurk”, and “Naggin”. College Park residents Da Muzicianz hyped the Fever crowd up.

Many local celebrities were in attendance like Emanuel Lewis, Keith Sweat, and members of the Detroit Pistons and Denver Broncos were also present. Dont ask me which players, because I dont watch football. It might as well of been a bunch of politicians as far as my interest evel was concerned. While I’m not a huge fan of the YYT, I have to admit that they did do their thing. I have a great time and I look forward to getting a chance to interview them soon.

Check out the pictures from the event.

    Until tommorrow,

    Asta,

Young Jeezy Gets Flustered, Lloyd Brings The Remix, and Kay Slay Airs Out Lil Wayne!!!!
    Monday. 12.11.06 8:15 am

Is hip-hop dead? A lot of people seem to think so, including myself. Young Jeezy got into a heated argument with NY DJ Monie Love over the current state of hip-hop in a recent interview. At first their banter was very tongue and cheek when Monie inquired about Jeezy's opinion regarding Lil Wayne’s recent comments about Jay-Z claiming that hip-hop was dead.

But when Young Jeezy proceeded to give a standardized response, that’s when the discussion turned ugly. The end result had Young Jeezy suddenly storming out of the studio. Check it out! YOUNG JEEZY GETTING FRUSTRATED

    Speaking of Frustrated....

I know a lot of y’all are pissed about the comments being disabled, but you got to remember that sohh.com is trying to step up the competition and make our shit pop with excitement. Just bare with us, we will get it together aight?
Shout out to Lloyd, Andre 3000, and Nas for a tight remix of “You”. Though Lloyd isn't getting the national success of other young Pop and R&B artists he is still getting a lot of love from Atlanta. Every time Lloyd steps on the scene in this city the girls go crazy.

Not for nothing but you can have a decent career in this city and pull in a lot of money. Because I’m nice and y’all my family here is the download for "YOU (Remix)" Brought to you by Sohh Gyant

Niccas, (can we still use this word, or has Kramer fucked that up for all of us), are upset over Lil Wayne’s recent comments dissing Jay-Z, Pharrel, and the Clispe. I don’t know why everybody is up in arms, it is what it is. Jay has fallen off.. Let me stop talking about this shit. This is the Sohh Atlanta blog so I got to keep this shit local. But, here is the audio for y’all to check out!
4 more days peoples and its a wrap...

SOHH Gyant is looking for you!!

    Hip-hop quote of the day....
I want kids of this generation to see that everything is cool, that there's some kind of unity in hip-hop. We all found something that's really important to us, and music is all we've really got.

Bow Wow Isnt Talking Smack! Grammy Nominations Arrive and Damn Did Atlanta and The Southern Gentleman Do Their Thing!!!
    Monday. 12.11.06 8:19 am
    What’s good Fam?

As usual Lil Wayne and Baby drew major hits yesterday. We had a lot of comments made. Some good, and some not so good but that’s the beauty of expression. Around here you can say what ever the FUCK you want to say.

Yo I know you had to have heard about Bow Wow, and his supposed off the chart comments dissing everybody from Ciara, to Jermaine Dupri recently. Initially it sounded like lil dude was starting to become an ungrateful bastard. However, Bow seems to have his feet firmly on the ground as he has released an official statement letting all the haters know that it’s NOTHING but love between he and everybody. Contrary to rampant rumors appearing on the internet, a purported interview between Bow Wow and Ozone magazine never happened. The alleged interview is a fantasy created by persons unknown.

Statements attributed to Bow Wow were never made by the artist and the purported interview never took place.

Neither Bow Wow nor Ozone magazine had anything to do with generating the fake interview.

One can only assume the alleged interview is either a misguided attempt at humor or a horrible prank.

Bow Wow's response to the fake interview:

"When you gain success and are doing something positive, there's always someone out there that wants to see you fail. I wonder what they'll come up with next? My fans know that I would never say anything like what's in that interview.”

Bow Wow's new album The Price of Fame is due in stores December 19.

I'm working on getting an interview on Bow. I will keep you posted.

Akon Silenced By Record Label, Bun B Hates BET, Jay-Z and Beyonce Got Issues?
    Monday. 11.27.06 12:18 pm

The drama surrounding Akon and his convo with Angie Mar on Hot 97 a while back about his alleged 9 wives has bitten him in the ass. Just recently his records label, Universal, has informed him he is forbidden to speak about his polygamy at any time in any interview. They put a gag order on him to make sure his ass says nothing about that matter. And now he's claiming that this "free country" isn't really free at all because of this. Welcome to the U.S. Akon.

So this video is floating around with everybody talking about Jay and B must have broken up. First, they were not sitting together at the Awards show like they usually do. And last week at Hov's album release party/American Music Awards afterparty, he left Beyonce in the car while he partied inside for about 40 minutes. She did look a little pissy in the car and word has it that he forgot about her and wanted to party alone for a while. Regardless, it just looks like maybe she didn't want to go in so she just waited. People are just waiting for him to drop this chick....

Bun B. did an interview recently where he spoke about his hatred for BET. A while back he tried to submit his video for "Swang" and BET, who is already rumored to be a payola company, said they wanted an incentive to run the vid. And just recently, Ludacris appeared on 106 and Park wearing a t-shirt saying "Hip Hop aint dead...it lives in the south" and that caused the hosts to ask about the East v. South beef. Bun B. was actually kicked off the slate of performers (the same day Luda performed) so he was real salty. He says BET doesn't care about the South and only plays whack videos from the South so they won't take over. Interesting.

Jay-Z Moves Major Units, Cops Shut Down Release Party In NY
    Monday. 11.27.06 12:45 pm

    By Roman Wolfe
    Date: 11/24/2006 11:50 am

Jay-Z's latest release Kingdom Come is on pace to move an estimated 850,000 copies the first week in stores, giving the rapper the year's best selling CD in one week and another #1 album on the Billboard charts.

Kingdom Come is expected to debut at #1 on Billboard's Top 200 Chart next week, giving the rapper his 9th #1 album.

Jay-Z embarked on a massive promotional blitz for the album that included a world tour, a performance at the American Music Awards, commercials for the NBA, Budweiser and Hewlett-Packard, a one-day "Hangar Tour" of seven cities in 24 hours and continuous coverage on MTV and BET.

Snoop Dogg's Tha Blue Carpet Treatment will battle Chris Daughtrey's self-titled debut for the #2 position, with both albums selling around 270,000 copies.

In related news, police shutdown Avalon on Wednesday (Nov. 22), 30 minutes before the venue was to host hundreds of people celebrating the release of Jay-Z's album.

According to reports, police closed the club because of issues with its certificate of occupancy, which managers had unsuccessfully attempted to resolve for several weeks.

Many patrons that prepaid to attend party left the venue upset, even though Jay-Z was not expected at the event.
