Daily Hip-Hop News:Ecko Teams Up With Spike Lee For Fashion Collection
    Thursday. 8.31.06 5:16 am
Wednesday - August 30, 2006 by Alexis Chase Spike Lee Apparel and magazine mogul Marc Ecko has teamed up with film director extraordinaire, Spike Lee, to launch the release of the 40 Acres & A Mule clothing collection, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Spike's first feature film, She's Gotta Have It. Developed under the Marc Ecko Cut & Sew label, the 40 Acres & A Mule collection will be available for Fall 2006. The collection, which consists of varsity jackets, rugby jerseys, graphic tees, hoodies and light jackets, features allusions to moments captured in Lee's 20-year catalog. "I have great respect for Spike as both a creative mind and as a director. He has been an avid supporter of my work and my Ecko Unltd. brand since the early days, and I'm really proud to be able to help celebrate a major milestone in his brilliant career," Marc Ecko said via statement. Plans are also in the works for a Spring 2007 co-branded collection. In 1986 Spike Lee established his production company 40 Acres & A Mule Filmworks and released his first independent film She's Gotta Have It. Since that time he has held the American public captive with his groundbreaking work that includes such films as Do the Right Thing, Mo' Betta Blues, Jungle Fever, Malcolm X, Summer of Sam, Bamboozled and Inside Man. Lee also recently directed When the Levees Broke, a four part documentary series about last year's Hurricane Katrina disaster. The documentary premiered on HBO last week, in time to mark the one year anniversary of the tragic event.

SOHH SOULFUL:Idlewild My Ass... It's Bad Boy Bitch
    Thursday. 8.31.06 5:25 am
Approx. First Week Sales #1 Danity Kane - 215,733 #2 Outkast - 191.373 (sorry Ms. Jackson) #6 Paris Hilton - 76,091 #8 Kelis - 61,732 SOHH Soulful would like to show some love to the ladies of Danity Kane for coming up out of the fuggin' woodwork and waxin' the asses of several major recording artists by leading this week's album sales with their self titled debut. While all the stankonia was being made over one of hip hop's greatest bands, the little engine that could (Bad Boy Entertainment) was consumed with proving it could do what many had doubted, make a band. And that they did. Aubrey, Aundrea, Dawn, Shannon and D. Woods (the Dawn Robinson of the crew) have toiled for nearly a year and a half all in preparation for this moment. Enjoy it. By now, I am sure you all have seen the exclusive video interview I did with these ladies. If not... what the fuck are you waiting on? Click here. And speaking of making a band, Usher and J Records have teamed up to make their own band. Courtney, Jon, Michael and Rob make up the group One Chance. They have a new single titled "Look at Her" featuring Fabo of D4L. Click here to listen. This name really suits us,” says Jon Gordon, 20. “One Chance means we only have one life and this is our one dream and you’ve only got once chance to do it. We feel like all we need is one chance for people to hear us and they’ll love us. You got that right. Because the boy band invasion is prepping for full swing with upcoming releases from veterans like Boyz II Men and 112 as well as new boy bands like Luke & Q, Chapter 4 and Midwest City. Midwest City is a quartet from Oaklahoma who worked with Cool & Dre on the first single from the upcoming CD, Authentic R&B, titled "One Love". Click here to listen to "One Love." I dunno... Are we feeling boy bands again? Has the rumored break-up of Outkast and the disbanding of Destiny's Child made way for groups like Mojoe, Cherish, Tiffany Affair and whomever else that is on the come up? Personally, I don't care who is doing what, just sound good and drop the beat. And since we can't go a whole entry without entering Beyonce's world, a place that laid the blueprint for the successes of a Danity Kane, check out our new joint of the day fresh from a Japanese import of B'day titled "Creole." I have to ask... Is this chick so far ahead of her times or is she just about due for an upgrading?

    What's The Verdict On Idlewild?
    Thursday. 8.31.06 5:31 am
It's been over a week since the release of the latest Outkast album, Idlewild, and I'm wondering what the response is to the album. I've heard and read mixed reviews on it but the jury is still out. I did pick it up on the day it dropped with high expectations and the album met those expectations for me but others aren't so sold on it. My thinking is that it's almost too far left for the average hip hop ear, an ear that has grown accustomed to the gun packers of the industry. The game has been in serious transition since their last release. Were they able to reel some of the lost back in with this album or are the lost too far gone? Whenever Danity Kane is even mentioned to be possibly pushing as many units as Outkast I have to ask some serious questions here? Also, what's the word on "Idlewild" the movie? "Easily the most wildly innovative film of the year."--Bruce Kirkland of The Toronto Sun Oppositely, here's a negative review There was a great deal of hype leading up to the release but I'm sensing the momentum slowing down. I thought both were excellent products, and a needed change but what's the overall perception? What I'm Sittin Sidewayz to today...shyne.jpg Posted by SOHH Southern at August 3

Diddy feat. Nicole Scherzinger - "Come To Me" video
    Thursday. 8.31.06 5:36 am
"Y'all know what time it is! Let's make em dance!" -- King Diddy Usually a Puffy jawn accomplishes that much, if nothing else. "Come To Me" [watch it now] is a worthless, steaming pile of Pussycat shit! This wouldn't have even made their album. Diddy tries to bring Danceyback in his own special, pre-packaged, dolphin-toothed manner. Bringing the top pussy along was supposed to ensure victory. Ehhhh... This is almost as Brokeback as Sexyback itself. I wonder if they had any idea they’d be releasing damn near the same video at damn near the same time. I could see it now, Puffy and JT the Bigga Wigga at the bar somewhere talkin about what they were about to drop on the world. JT did it on MTV, Puffy hit TNC... Who's on first? Shit, I’d love to see the Friday Night Sissy Fight that would ensue if there were any static over this. Nicole... What the fuc?! We thought you were Puerto Rican or some shit. Scherzinger? Damn. Well, something tells me he'd rather have Schillnger... and maybe Robson and Hoyt instead of Danity Kane. I mean, one or all of them would have done just fine in this scenario. Actually, this looks and sounds like what would be one of their vide os. What message does that send? Can someone explain Puff's use of a bottom grill here? Everything else about him is screaming Michael Jackson. From the bullshit 3/4 spin every other maneuver to luring a young lady to his private playroom. Maybe next time we see Mike he'll have the whole top diamond and the bottom rose gold?
