This Writer's Prise of Self (a rarity)
Friday. 10.24.08 9:40 pm
I have worked all day since 11:30 AM. I think this is the first 8 hour day I've worked in my life. Tomorrow and the rest of today, once my TV and blogging break finishes around 11:30, I'll finish the book. I need to finish the book tomorrow, so I can start my last essay. By Sunday, the entire application will be rough draft finished and two pages of the Gemini zine will be done, along with 5 blogs. This is one busy weekend! I'm proud of myself, though, for being this disciplined. I'm not a big discipline person (I don't think any artist is).

Grants, PMS, and moving
Friday. 10.24.08 3:43 pm
I'm feeling pretty bad as I know I am going to get my period tomorrow or sometime soon, which always leads me to feel bad. Today I had to force myself to get out of my nice warm bed and work on the grant I have due next Friday as well as the housing application which is due Monday, when I'm going to hand it in. I hope they accept me, I really do because presently I'm spending $400 a month using the paratransit service. If I lived in Northampton, which is more centrally located to what I do, I would be able to merely take the bus. Bus passes cost $20 if you are disabled. Way better economic deal. Also, Northampton is more fun.

Most of my PCA's say they'll be able to stay with me so I shouldn't have a problem there. Also, people who used to work for me but stopped because they lived too far away and gas prices are too insane would come back to work for me. People would be able to stop by and visit me much more easily. I'm so excited. I'll cry, I swear, if they don't pick me. I've worked so hard. I've had a job for a year, I'm busily applying to various writer's grants, I'm definitely moving up in the world. Living in Belchertown is not helping me achieve that goal, though. As much as I like my little town, it is time for me to move on. It's not like I won't ever come here again. Northampton is only 45 minutes away, if that. It's just that my life will improve. And isn't that the goal of everyone? To have every year be better than the one before?

I'm almost through with the grant stuff although I have to wait on an e-mail from the application people and finish a book to complete the last essay. I'll definitely be done by Friday, the deadline, and hopefully Thursday so I'm not rushing around. Why do I always wait until the last minute to finish important things? I don't know but I don't seem to be able to write when I have days and days to do it. God knows I've tried. I guess I'm a kind of last minute producer. Well, at least I produce somehow.

Long day III
Thursday. 1.15.09 9:10 pm
This has been the longest day. At first, I barely wanted to get up even to go to my wheelchair appointment (which I made myself do by the way). Then, I had an annoying email from people I work with. Then, I got a headache. Then, I took a nap. Basically, all I want to do is crawl back under the covers and stay there until this day is over.

But nothing ever got done that way. Instead of doing that, the mechanics and the seating coordination guy figured out what was wrong with my chair and what parts they needed to order. Now I'm back in my old chair just waiting for the new parts to come in and I must say it feels safer. On the job front, I talked to my co-coordinator and we got stuff dealt with. Not permanently, but for now. Permanent dealing will have to wait until March or so. My headache is gone. That's a good thing. Now I'm writing so I'll earn a little money today.

Today...
Thursday. 1.8.09 11:59 pm
Hi Everybody,

I had a long day. Interviews that went well; I'm totally hiring two people. One's a fellow poet and one is a dog breeder. This is the easiest hiring I've ever had. I hope they both turn out to nice and normal. I'm getting a new food stamps card tomorrow. I'll need to keep track of this one; I'll be by 3rd.

Mass Media Annoyances
Wednesday. 10.22.08 11:04 pm
It must be mass media pisses me off day. First on the paratransit the driver was listening to The Savage Nation, a crazy right ring talk show, and the host Michael Savage asks, "Should people on welfare temporarily lose the right to vote until they get off it?" Excuse me, but what? In civics class, I was taught that every American of legal age was entitled to their single vote regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or economic status. Apparently this guy wants to change the Constitution. If he had his way, I would never be able to vote at all, as I get benefits and Medicaid.

Then I cam home to write and veg in front of the TV. I watched Top Design. There was this designer named Andrea who opted to go home instead of continuing in the contest because she missed her husband and kids. I find this woman's behavior embarrassing to working woman everywhere and worry what message this sends to her kids. That you can't have it all? That you must choose between her family and your career? That's it's fine to give up! Whatever woman! I'm wondering why I am so furious, but I am and as any writer will tell you fury is worth noting.

Today is a Work day, not a Weekend Day for Me
Saturday. 11.8.08 4:16 pm
I worked at a show today, from about 8:15 to 3. I made about $20; plus table fee. Now I'm home and blogging. I think today I might work 8 or 9 hours. Lately, I've been must in at least 2 if not 4 hours a day at this writing thing. Kierstal emailed me back; the website will be up by Sunday. Next week, I want to keep track of how many hours I work, because I'm pretty sure it's at least 40. Since I work 7 days a week; that equals 5 hours plus a day, so maybe I'm not working that must, Perhaps, I work at least 30 hours a week. Next week, I suppose will tell the tale.
