So is there anything we can do as a community to at least stabilize the nutang server? What exactly is the problem here?
Everytime the server is down, there's no detailed report on what happened, which makes us all blind sheeps waiting to graze on shit.
No offense but IMHO, if dave is on and off frequently then it's only right if he passes the baton to someone else who can fix technical errors ASAP, if not appoint someone and give him the admin power.
I believe that the community previously had a discussion on the potential ways to attract new members, with regards to that, stabilizing the server is definitely the minimum we can and should do.
New features and other stuff comes after that.
Alternatively, if there's anything I can do to help out, please approach me, and with my best of efforts I WILL help out.
I am more than happy to help and make Nutang a stronger and bigger community actually, but first I need to know what exactly is the source of problem we are facing. As members for years already, we should all be allowed to know.

And I am fully aware that there have been complains and mini arguments sparking around the community with regards to this.
I won't say who's right or wrong but answers like "if you don't like it here then leave by all means" is a no no.
There are people that have been blogging here for like years, you can't just expect them to abandon their blog and start afresh.
Instead we should all face the problem instead of avoiding it.
I know the community is small and all but there is something we can and should do.

First question is, why is there frequent breakdowns in the server. Is it due to money or simply just the host problem? Is there anything we can do to help?

Second question, I have friends with popularity points not moving at all. What is the source of this problem? What can we do to help?

I believe all of us does not like it when the server is down but some reactions to the downtimes are unreasonable. If you are here for some years, you would have expected these things like this to happen since it is mainly maintained by one person and at the expense of a person. If you really dont like it being down so many times in a year then go.

You would say that it is not easy to pack up and leave, I will say it is not easy to have a hectic lifestyle travelling almost every month to every corner of the world and find time to maintain a site.

I'm also not trying to pick a fight but sometimes you have to put yourself in someone's shoes before you say something.

It is also ultimately up to dave if he wants to appoint anyone to babysit his baby.

Nuttz makes some good points. Some people here don't necessarily know that dave is the one who runs the site, and really the only one who can fix a lot of problems, but most of us do. IF this were a bigger site and there were a team of people whose jobs were to maintain it, then we could complain more about downtimes. As it is we should be happy Nutang is available most of the time.

I am not being sensitive but you are pretty much oblivious to a lot of things.
God knows how dave will react to this, when he does stumble upon this in his free time.

My two cents on this is that your post itself is pretty much offensive towards dave. He is generous enough to be sharing his revenues generated by site with all that has signed up and you are in a way saying that he should devote more time to something that would have started off as a pass time? I'm pretty sure that if he is getting a lot of money from this site than his day job, he will be here 24/7.

Nuttz was just stating that NuTang is one person's personal project, that he may not be willing to do certain things with it, and that we are appreciative that he still puts time into it.

I'm going to side with Nuttz on her statement that Dave doesn't have to be doing this, and there are plenty of cookie-cutter places with teams and crazy revenue and are more about making money than providing something awesome to people who care about it.

L, GotMilk, if you're going to bring such awfulness and negativity to the community, maybe you should leave. I mean, it's one thing to bash a team that does nothing but support, but another to bash a lone person providing a service.

If you're going to behave in such a manner when there is downtime, and not be understanding, go somewhere where you can pay for features and crappy service, and where you are just another number in the system.

I can appreciate your concern, don't get me wrong. Do you really have to tell people "fuck you" and act entitled and uppity? There is no need for any of that at NuTang. None.
