So is there anything we can do as a community to at least stabilize the nutang server? What exactly is the problem here?
Everytime the server is down, there's no detailed report on what happened, which makes us all blind sheeps waiting to graze on shit.
No offense but IMHO, if dave is on and off frequently then it's only right if he passes the baton to someone else who can fix technical errors ASAP, if not appoint someone and give him the admin power.
I believe that the community previously had a discussion on the potential ways to attract new members, with regards to that, stabilizing the server is definitely the minimum we can and should do.
New features and other stuff comes after that.
Alternatively, if there's anything I can do to help out, please approach me, and with my best of efforts I WILL help out.
I am more than happy to help and make Nutang a stronger and bigger community actually, but first I need to know what exactly is the source of problem we are facing. As members for years already, we should all be allowed to know.

And I am fully aware that there have been complains and mini arguments sparking around the community with regards to this.
I won't say who's right or wrong but answers like "if you don't like it here then leave by all means" is a no no.
There are people that have been blogging here for like years, you can't just expect them to abandon their blog and start afresh.
Instead we should all face the problem instead of avoiding it.
I know the community is small and all but there is something we can and should do.

First question is, why is there frequent breakdowns in the server. Is it due to money or simply just the host problem? Is there anything we can do to help?

Second question, I have friends with popularity points not moving at all. What is the source of this problem? What can we do to help?

Thank you for reading this.

If I'm not mistaken, there is an ongoing effort to put Praetorian in charge of general maintenance and such, or at least allow him to be able to act in an administrative fashion.

Also, I'd love to know what's going on with the pop points and revenue, mine haven't moved since the update in December. :( That three months might have helped in my search of house-funding ... >.>

But as far as that's concerned, dave says he doesn't see anything off in the coding to make the popularity and revenue stall, so I'm wondering if maybe there's some sort of cap on the size, or perhaps these things are going in the background, but not being updated on the pages.

I asked dave what the problem was yesterday, but when I got back it had been pushed out of the SB. Does anyone know if he answered, or what he said?

I think this time, whatever the problem was, it was different than it has been before. Usually the whole domain goes down, right? This time I think it was just a problem in the coding. If that's true, it begs the question of how the corruption occurred.

ikimashokie: Hmm, i am partly aware of the ongoing effort in making Praetorian in charged but since there's no visible results after so long, I thought that idea was dropped. So what had caused the delay in passing him the power?

middaymoon: I doubt that Dave will actually play around and alter with the coding jeopardizing nutang. And based on his account, even without touching the codes, apparently there are members with stagnant popularity points.
Given these evidence, it only means that the genuine source of the problem comes from our main server host, am I wrong to say that?
If that's the case then is there anything we can do to ensure a safe shift in server? Meaning that all our entries will be left untouched even though our main host is changed.

Thanks for all constructive comments guys!
Sorry if I am being to direct or whatsoever but I just thought that it's only right for us to solve all problems now.

Not really dropped, but I don't think dave was comfortable with giving me access to the server. I tried to push for it, but in the end it's his decision. Part of that is my fault, since I was helping with the updates but disappeared for a while, as work got intense and stressful.

I guess I can understand dave's decision. NuTang is his baby, and I dare say the most successful of his projects.

At the very least I think it's doing better than Our Odd World...

And Allrespect seems to be picking up some speed, though I don't visit there much.

---Edit---

There is this really annoying "Premium Content Protection" thing or something on the video and flash sites. It doesn't let you see anything unless you do one of those spam/popup surveys. >:(

yea I found that out a couple of months ago, its rather annoying indeed... doing enough of the survey to get to the content.. one time I had to do like almost 2 of them with a bunch of fake information and crap, lol

I don't think anybody would do that if they could get the same content somewhere else without the hassle.

BA? I'm afraid I don't follow.
