My Next Vegas Trip October 2008
The Countdown Is On:

Zumanity The Game, Plus Q & A
Wednesday. 9.12.07 6:29 am
I received a cool email today from The New York New York Casino in Las Vegas. It seems that in order to promote their Cirque Du Soleil show Zumanity they have release an online game. Now Zumanity is referred to as the Sensual Side of Cirque De Soleil so the game is for adults only. I admit, I did play for a little bit and while I did not get to the end I did not see anything too risque', but I will put a warning page in my link.

You may notice that Tickets for Zumanity start at $69.95, but until the end of September the Summer Promotion is still going on and you can pick up tickets for $50.00. Seating is very limited at this time and is only good until the end of the month.

Now to get to something I've wanted to do for a while. A couple of my fellow Nutang Bloggers have left me comments and feedback on my previous posts. What I want to do is take a few moments to answer some of the questions and concerns I've received.

First, MidnightMonkey said:
"you should live in vegas for a while. After the first year it sinks in that the place actually sucks."

No thank you. I have no desire at all the live in Las Vegas. I like to go out once every couple of years to escape from reality and that's it. Las Vegas is like no other place I've every been. If I moved there it would make Las Vegas my reality, but instead by only going out for a few days every couple of years it keeps Las Vegas as a fantasy place for me.

I've actually heard this a lot from the Las Vegas locals. When I was there the first time I would tell the locals I came in contact with that I was from the most boring place in the world. Once I would tell them where that was they would then in turn tell me they would trade me places. Again, I would not live there if you paid me.

Midnight Monkey I hope you find your special place to retreat to and get out of Las Vegas. Even if it's only for a little while.

And RandomJunk has a 2 parter. First:
"Moving away from the family friendly atmosphere? That doesn't sound that great"

Well if you've ever been to Vegas it is great. See, in the 90's companies like Disney started buying these Casino resorts. Their plan? To turn Las Vegas into the next Orlando. A place where you can bring the entire family and have a good time. This backfired. The big gamblers didn't like tripping over kids at the buffet or being distracted by screaming in the Casino. The bottom line is that kids can't gamble. And I did care how many theme parks, water slides, shows are candy stores they put up, it's still money from gambling that pays the bills in Sin City. Does this mean kids are banned? Hell no. You can't ban people from bringing their children to Las Vegas. It just means that most of the options for fun are going back to being geared toward adults. Kids will always be there, but the resorts are no longer saying "Please bring the entire family."

And the second part of your comment:
"I always find the word LAX funny because it sounds like 'laxative'"

Me too, but as you've probably guessed, it's really L - A - X and it's just another vague acronym. We may never know exactly what the X stands for, but the L - A stands for Los Angeles.

Thanks for reading and good luck,
Vinnie

$59 Rooms At The Luxor In November
Friday. 9.7.07 5:58 am
I received an email from the Luxor the other day with some promotional room rates. The best deal I see is the $59/night rooms in November for the 18th through the 21st and the 25th through the 29th. That's right, $59 for a Friday night. This is unheard of.

My suggestion is to book fast before they change their mind.

Recently the Luxor has been going through some changes. They have been eliminating a lot of the Egyptian references inside the hotel and are moving away from the family friendly atmosphere. They also opened a hot new club called LAX, based on a Los Angeles club with the same name. Should be the place to be on the strip this fall.

Cirque du Soleil
Wednesday. 8.22.07 6:52 am
According to the information in the mailing I received, the $27/night rooms are non-transferable so I'm unable to pass along that great deal to anyone else. To bad too, I hate to see it go to waste.

But just in case anyone was interested, here is the link for the discount Cirque du Soleil tickets:

http://www.ticketmaster.com/summerofcirque?tm_link=tm_home_f7

As I said before, LOVE is already sold out so act fast before the other shows sell out as well.

Also, join the club at http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/ and get special discounts mail to you.

What do you guys think about the new color scheme?

Great Las Vegas Deal, But I Can't Go
Monday. 8.20.07 6:14 am
I received a great offer in the mail the other day from the Imperial Palace. I could get a deluxe room for $27 a night if I stayed September 3rd through the 5th. Also included in the package was a 2 for 1 buffet, 2 for 1 tickets to Legends In Concert, $5 Match Play and 2 Free Drinks at any Casino Bar. Not too bad a deal at all. Too bad I cannot go.

Right now, through the end of September they are running a special on Cirque du Soleil tickets. You can get seats for $50 each. Now, of course, "O" is not available and LOVE is sold out, but the other 3 shows still have remaining tickets.

I would love to be able to take my wife out right now and go to a different Cirque show every night, but right now airfare and other travel related expenses are not in the budget. Oh well.

Hopefully when I go out next year I will get some good specials like this.

My Vegas Blog - First Post
Sunday. 5.20.07 5:54 pm
My first Las Vegas experience:

As the plane was touching down at McCarran Airport and could see some of the Casinos off in the distance. This is what I had been waiting on for such a long time. I brought my one carry-on bag and myself and we exited the plane and walked into the airport and saw slot machines. I didn’t see anything like that is Pittsburgh when I flew out this morning or in Cincinnati were I had my lay over some hours ago. It was finally starting to sink in that it was all real.

I had wanted to go to Las Vegas for a few years now. I would see the lights of the casinos on TV and think, “How can a place like that really exist?” After being robbed of a free trip a couple years before (nothing a want to get into right now) I was finally here. The place that lit up like the sun at night, the place where all, or almost all was legal, and one rumor I could not wait to find out about, the place you can drink for free.

At this point though, I really didn’t know what to do. I had never been anyplace like this by myself before where I didn’t know anybody there. I didn’t have someone waiting to pick me up at the airport. I was by myself in a place that I had never been and with very little instruction on what to do.

I’m not complaining about my friend Ryan though. He hooked me up. He was really the only one I knew that had been to Vegas before and he booked my flight and hotel for me and gave me the scoop on some shows, some gambling and some places to eat. I must admit, without him I would have been totally lost and possibly would have just curled up in a ball in some corner of the airport for 4 days. Ok, maybe not that, but I would have missed a lot of stuff.

Then I remembered what I did when I flew to Florida. I walked outside and waited for my ride, but while I was waiting a lot of people were catching cabs. I knew there had to be a place to catch a cab, I just had to go outside.

Once I found the doors and found the line for the cab stand. I walked up got in it and soon after got a ride.

“Where to?”

“Tropicana”

The driver loaded my bags and off we went.

This was the first time in my life I had ever ridden in a taxi cab. He could have taken me the long way through the tunnel, but I don’t think he did. I wouldn’t know anyway. The ride didn’t seem to cost too much, so I’m sure he didn’t.

I had to wait a little bit before my room was ready at the Tropicana. At that time they had a free acrobatic type show in the main entrance of the Casino so I stood and watched. Then my room was ready and went up, got ready and hit the strip.
