Spending Your Time in Las Vegas
By Tatyana Kogut

On your way from Los Angeles to the desert you will find Las Vegas, the capital of American gambling industry. Las Vegas is located in the south of Nevada State, approximately 80 km east of Californian border and 50 km west of border with Arizona. Las Vegas is divided into two parts: Strip with its business centre, and Glitter Gulch. Summer is very hot and winter is cold, so the best time to go to the city is autumn and spring.

Its no use staying in Las Vegas for more than three days. But a short visit to the city, especially if you are in Los Angeles, is advisable (its only a 2-3 hour car ride from Los Angeles to Las Vegas). There is a casino in every hotel, from five-star to the cheapest ones. But better book in advance. Local hotels are real state of art! Each has its own peculiar feature. For instance, Imperial Palace boasts of its huge concert hall where Elvis Presley used to perform, and an excellent car museum. When you are tired of endless golden bumpers and silk seats, go to medieval-style Excalibur, or pyramid-like Luxor with an artificial underwater river.

Having found yourself in Las Vegas, the best thing to do is to enjoy your time, play, loose and win. The best place to do that is the night Strip, deep in the ocean of multicoloured lights. MGM Grand Hotel guests don’t even have to go outside: the whole week won’t be enough to visit its casinos, cinemas, 2 concert halls, 6 restaurants, 2 swimming pools, 4 cocktail halls, 10 tennis courts and a shopping mall.

You can go to see a gigantic neon clown sitting on the Circus-Circus roof. There is a Grand Slam Canyon small attraction park (now Adventuredome) found next to it. The square formed by Fremont and Main Streets (in the city centre) is known as Glitter Gulch. First neon displays appeared here as early as in 1929, and now this district is drowning in neon lights. Some of the city’s most known casinos are located in the district. Those are Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino, and Gold Spike. Local shops sell lots of souvenirs. The district’s important attraction is Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park – its monuments, photos and ruins tell the story of the Mormons who lived here in the 19th century. The Mirage is another place of interest. It’s a small tropic forest with an artificial volcano, surrounded by a lagoon. There are 54 waterfalls, a huge swimming pool and an aquarium inhabited by about 1000 fish species.

Car fans can visit Palace Auto Museum with a collection of cars that previously belonged to celebrities, including cars of several American Presidents. The museum is located at Imperial Palace Casino.

Hoover Dam is a huge dam, a true architecture masterpiece built not far from the city. Its one of the world’s highest dams. Behind it is a huge 180-km long reservoir. This is an excellent place for rowing, water skiing, diving and fishing. The dam is located south-east from the city centre and there is Red Rock Canyon 20 miles west of it.

Overton is a calm small town 2 hours ride from here, which boasts of its museum with ancient exhibits. There are several hotels, bars and shops found in the city. Travel north, and you will get to ancient Indian settlements - Anasazi Indian which forms a part of Lost City Museum. Some exhibits are several thousand years old!

And, finally, make a trip to Grand Canyon National Park, located several hours ride from Las Vegas. A truly spectacular view!

Resident Evil: Extinction Mistakes
Wednesday. 9.26.07 12:24 am
I haven't seen the movie yet but I noticed these 2 mistakes from seeing the trailer.

As we all know part of this movie takes place in Las Vegas. Now this movie wasn't filmed in Las Vegas, it was filmed in Mexico. The Las Vegas that you see in the movie is just a miniature replica of Sin City. The people who build the replica must not have paid much attention to detail because they made 2 mistakes on 2 different signs.

The first sign is the one for MGM Grand. In the movie the sign says "City Of Excitement," but in real life the sign say "City Of Entertainment."

The second is probably one of the most famous signs of all, the Las Vegas Welcome sign. In the movie the sign says "Welcome To Fantastic Las Vegas, Nevada," but in real life the sign reads "Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada."

Maybe not huge mistakes, but I thought they were worth mentioning.

Vinnie

Cheap Eats in Las Vegas
Wednesday. 9.19.07 4:25 am
Cheap Eats in Las Vegas by Sharron Nixon

A Las Vegas vacation would not be complete without the 24/7 food, drink, and gambling. In fact the choice of Las Vegas as a vacation destination would surely revolve around those attractions for most of her visitors.

We tend to think of the thrillseeking rides and roller coasters as offering the bumps, dips, twists, and turns that you will find, but probably the huge array of eating choices in Las Vegas gives the visitor many of those thrills too, with the added advantage of being able to KEEP your breakfast rather than give it back!

Las Vegas has some of the best dining on the planet. Many of the wonderful dining experiences are associated with the casinos of the area, but the casinos themselves would not be as successful if their restaurant tables were not kept full. Diners don't tend to dine if the food isn't good, and the old saying about bad news traveling twice as fast means that a bad restaurant review will travel around the world twice before ten good reviews can even be written. This means that the world-class fine dining restaurants really must earn their reputations in order to bring in the business.

I personally tend to look for the dining bargains, and a visit to my website can explain why, so that is what I will focus on here. There are a huge selection of great places to eat in Vegas that will not have your credit card screaming to be left alone!

Being from New Zealand, we tend to be more steak and potato kind of folks, so we always try to look for a good steak bargain. For those that prefer to steer away from meat, pardon the pun, you can also get a wide variety of other menu choices at most steak houses. This is good wholesome food at its best and at a price that most can afford.

Not all great bargains involve steaks and there are many great food bargains to have. One of the best things to check out are the coupons you may find around town offering two for one food purchases or dollars off entree purchases. It may not sound like much, but imagine if you could save $2 per two people for 10 meals during your stay, that adds up pretty quickly. You are probably looking at a little slot machine time, or by checking out other great coupon deals, you could even score tickets to one of the many great Las Vegas shows.

Just because some eating places are cheap, that does not mean a lack of quality. Remember what I said earlier, a lot of the success of many establishments rides on their ability to keep their tables full. Cheaper food establishments are no exception, they still have the same goal.

In many industries, but hospitality in particular, you can only make your money in two ways. Either you charge like a wounded bull, and rely on your reputation to fill your cash register, or you rely on sheer demand through offering low cost and quality. Most of the cheaper eating venues in Las Vegas fit this profile extremely well.

While they may not be as sophisticated as some offerings, you might find that a lot of the cheaper places to eat actually have far superior flavor to many of the more expensive dining experiences. If you look at it this way, taking advantage of cheaper alternatives will probably allow you to splurge on one of the Top Guys with the money you have saved!

I know you either love them or hate them, but I personally love the buffets! Where else can you take a family, with all their different food likes, and come away with everyone happy? And of course they are one of the cheapest options for eating in Las Vegas. Sure, there are the good buffets and the bad buffets, but I have found on the whole we have been more than happy, and so has the credit card!

No matter what your preference, the possibilities are endless and your Las Vegas dining experiences will add some fantastic snippets to your collection of Las Vegas vacation memories.
