    Sohh Gyant Answers Your Comments!!!!
    Friday. 1.19.07 11:16 am

    What’s da deal Family?

I see the comments are picking up and for that very reason, today, I’m going to pass on Atlanta’s Own Talent Showcase to address some of your comments. This picture was emailed to me earlier today. Can we all please get a grip people! They got arrested for a white-collar crime. There will be a trial, which I’m sure will take at least a year. Some of y'all acting like they was sentenced to death and shit. It’s corny as hell but: if you cant do the time, then don’t do the muthafuckin crime.

My homie Freezefiyah emailed me this information on just how serious the RIAA is about all the bootlegging. The have had enough.

If you thought DJ Drama and the Aphillates Music Group were the only ones to feel the effect of the powers that be's desperate attempt to put to bed the commercial viability of urban music entertainment, well guess again. Your favorite website, Urban Connects recently received a “cease and desist” notice (same day as the Aphillates raid mind you) from the legal department of VNU, parent company of Nielsen BroadCast Data Systems and Nielsen SoundScan. The issue at hand is the BDS and SoundScan numbers that are posted on this site. Because of this action we will, starting today, omit the BDS/SoundScan numbers from being posted in “chart format”…but best believe we will continue to be your source for analysis of this urban music landscape (on a business level) from the perspective of people that are of the culture.

When you see a billion dollar media entity threatening to enforce statutory damages (up to $150,000 per infringement) on a site that is completely non-revenue in nature it just goes to show how powerful a role INFLUENCE can play in the world we live in. Now is the time to strap the boots up and ride out! You can’t stop progression.

First, let me say that I really appreciate the time and energy (good or bad) y’all share with Sohh Atlanta. I’m doing my best to make this shit as interesting as possible. So, keep doing ya thing and I will for damn sure keep doing mine.

My first victim is PG. PG wrote:

Gyant, you are a fuckin idiot!!! I thought you would have learned your lesson last time when you started bashing Jeezy and the readers posted their comments about you and your corny ass blog. Now, you have the audacity to try and clown Drama and Cannon?!! I'm done!!! Nigga, I don't know where you're from but how the hell you ended up writing the ATL blog is beyond me. Drama, Cannon, and Sense are just as a part of the southern/ATL movement in music as Outkast, TI, or any other artist here in the city. For you to make light of Fed case is just ignorant.

FYI, R Kelly is in town to shoot the video for Jeezy's "Go Getta." If you was a real journalist, you'd be up on your ATL shit.
I'll never read your blog again!!! I suggest everyone else follow suit. At least until SOHH gets someone better.

Yo PG, why you getting so mad dawg? Let me hip you onto something homie. It’s my job to report on a story from how I see it. If you want the hard “journalist” stories that’s what the main SOHH.com page is set up for. If you want my take on shit, you come to the blog.

Whether you agree with my opinion on DJ Drama or DJ Cannon is really none of my fucking business. What I will say is that I don’t work for Grand Hustle, Tyree, or Cannon. I don’t wish no ill will on none of them. I hope they come out on top and have me eating my words. But, until then I’m gonna speak my mind. Real talk, I emailed Drama’s publicist giving them a chance to set the record straight about this entire incident. I have yet to hear anything. So trust me I don’t just talk out of my ass!!!

As far as the R. Kelly thing is concerned, you didn’t put me onto nothing I didn’t already know. If you check out Monday’s post http://blogs.sohh.com/atlanta/2007/01/happy_birthday.html then you’ll see that you’re the late one homie. So at the end of the day one could say that you’re the “fuckin idiot” but I’m not one to play the name calling game so I’ll just say — Peace G! Oh and by the way, you know you’ll be back.

    Doesn't Matter wrote:

    Get Yo Ass Neutured Today!!!

That’s mad creative dawg. I really liked that. Keep that shit up. What other ones can you come up with?

    psychoward666 commented:

i thoughtyesterdays blog was gonna be ur last serenade...but you came back and delivered a good post today...i think most chicks are requesting that j. hudson song on v-103 and if ur on peachtree tryin to holler at them white girls u might wanna turn themusic down or invest in a cd player...but anyway i dont even wanna know what business r. kelly has in atlanta and where the rest of that white ass is...but im gonna comment you on a good post today GYANT!!

Thank shawtie, I do it for the love of writing. There are more than white chicks walking up and down Peachtree St. what you talking about? I like Atlanta radio actually. I have lived in Atlanta for two years and I like the love y’all show your stations. So that’s why I listen to the radio when I’m driving.

    Big Herbz stated:

How the fuck u gon be reppin atlanta and make fun of the biggest DJ in Atlanta who's been providing the streets with hot music for years, the only LOSER is you. I thought you were going to do a piece on what happened, what insiders are saying happened, not a one sided diss on DJ Drama and Don Cannon. I mean, do you listen to Atlanta rap??? I know you said it was in a funny fashion, but the biggest dj in atlanta getting busted and you doing a satire/mocking of the situation is bullshit. Can we PLEASE get someone who actually cares about ATLANTA hip hop and not dwell on shitty stories like a club concert last week?

First off I aint going nowhere! “Hate it or love it, the underdog's on top, and I’ma shine homie until my heart stops”

The one thing about Atlanta I don’t get is the fact that we love our Atlanta artists so much that we blind ourselves to the truth. As unfortunate a situation as the arrest was for Drama and Cannon, it still happened. If you want biased news I suggest you go elsewhere. If you want the truth mixed in with some humor, then you come here! I love Atlanta rappers, and Atlanta hip-hop in general but nobody, and I repeat; NOBODY is exempt from Gyant’s perspective. And just how I dish it, is exactly how I can take it.

I’m just happy that y’all have stuck with your boy and made Sohh Atlanta the hot spot that it is. Everybody is reading this shit. And in this New Year it’s only going to get better.

Y’all have a great weekend and we’ll get up on Monday!

But, before I go. Make sure you come back at 1pm to see what I heard about Monica. Sohh Atlanta is so popular that I’m doing two blogs a day now.

    Peace,

Forget Black History Month….Let’s Talk About Southern History Month!!
    Tuesday. 2.6.07 8:25 am

With it being February, and our annual Black History month, lots of people are talking about and commemorating the same people we do every year.

But what I thought was, instead of celebrating the traditional black pioneers for the advancement of black people. I’ve decided to post non-traditional black pioneers who’ve advanced southern Hip-Hop as a whole. This weeks artists needs no introduction what so ever. But, for those of you who don’t know. Let me school you a bit!

Goodie Mob, who was based in Atlanta, Georgia, is widely measured as one of the founding hip hop acts of the Dirty South movement. Members Cee-Lo (Thomas Callaway), Khujo Goodie (Willie Knighton, Jr.), T-Mo Goodie (Robert Barnett), and Big Gipp (Cameron Gipp) made up the group, which started back 1995.

"GOODIE MOb", as it's written on all their album covers, stands for "GOOD DIE Mostly Over bullshit". Cee-Lo notes in a song off the Soul Food album that, "[If] you take out one 'O' it stands for 'GOD Is Every Man Of blackness.' "

Cee-Lo was the most visible member of the group prior to his departure in 2000,

An original member of the groundbreaking Atlanta group Goodie Mob, Cee-Lo is an Atlanta native that has had a successful career as rapper, singer, producer, and songwriter. Having worked on projects with everyone from Carlos Santana to The Pussycat Dolls, Cee-Lo hit it big again in 2006 while being part of Gnarls Barkley, collaboration with DJ Danger Mouse.

Cee-Lo has such a unique personality that he’s got several names he goes by. To many, he’s known as just Cee-Lo, but to his die hard fans, fellow industry associates, fans, and family—he goes by: Cee-Lo Green, Suga Baby, Eldorado Lo, Ralo Eight, Lorilla, Cee-Lo Sinatra, HenniCee-Lo, Car Belly, Lil' Buddah, and we cant forget the Cookie Monster.
I’m going to shout out the most prominent, and pioneering southern rapper(s) throughout this entire month, so be sure to show your luv!

    See Y'all lata,

Outkast, Cut Tha Bullsh*t! And Jazze Pha Dresses You Up for Easter
    Wednesday. 11.22.06 10:39 am

Why Big Boi and Andre 3000 are playing this "we still a group" bullshit is beyond me. A few months ago they released that bullshit ass IdleWild soundtrack, which failed to sell 500k copies (I speak the truth, check billboard.com). All the while they were denying rumors of a split between them, yet they didn't film one video together and if they did, I didn't see it!

Andre 3000 is obviously becoming increasingly more separated from hip-hop. He seems to be taking his acting seriously — a little too seriously some might say. His new movie based on the children's book "Charlottes Web," where Andre voices Elwyn the crow is leaving many within the hip-hop community puzzled. Andre seems to be distancing himself from music/hip-hop with the passing of each day. It appears that he is turning his back on an art form that launched him into the hip-hop stratosphere The only thing he's done remotely close to hip-hop lately is the "Walk It Out" remix, and though it's a hot track, it still leaves us all wanting more from the general of the "G Funk" and Dirty South genre.
And we can't forget about Big Boi. He's also caught the acting bug, landing a role alongside another Atlanta hip-hop Dirty South member, T.I. in "ATL". Though the movie wasn't a commercial success, he, like Dre, is pushing forward with more acting projects. He is currently filing a movie with Cedric the Entertainer, Faizon Love, Andy Milonakis, and Finess Mitchell. But when I heard from a very reliable source that Big Boi is actively in the studio trying to push out another solo album, I could feel it in my spirit much like Miss Sophia, (not V103's Miss. Sophia but, The Color Purple Miss. Sophia), could smell the rain coming — that Outkast is no longer.

Big Boi has gone on the record saying that he is working on something that he's calling his "mega-top-top-secret solo record." On the set of Fantasia's "Hood Boy" video Friday, the raper said:

"You're going to get something from every genre, every funk, beat, loop, horn, whistle. We got it all on the record. I got maybe 35 beats already done for it now, so I'm just diving in and trying to carve out the pie with the vocals."

The yet-untitled album should hit stores sometime in 2007, but I don't know if I'm interested any longer. Let's be clear, I love, and will always have love for the Southernplayalisticadallacmuzik duo. They changed the game of hip-hop and had a major hand in putting Atlanta on the map. But, I still wish they would just cut the bullshit already and admit to us all that they are through as a group

    Oh and by the way…….
Shout out to my homegirl Fresh from Crunk & Disorderly for providing me with this Jazze Pha information. Unfortunately with my hectic ass schedule I couldn't get out to this event but, she did and gave me some information:

Producer Jazze Pha has launched his own clothing store called Knitch. The shop will carry couture jeans, casual wear, and footwear for men and women. Yes, you too can now look like an Easter egg every single day. The grand opening party went down last night in ATL. Johnta Austin, Sammie, Project Runway finalist Michael Knight (it's not nice to talk about people), and Jody Breeze came out to support the new boutique.

I also got two hot tracks for you from some ATLiens:
GUCCI MANE - HARD TO KILL
    YUNG JOCK - PATRONE

I love you all like phat asses and lemonade.

Rappers Pop Off on 50 on Hot 97
    Friday. 2.2.07 6:09 pm
FULL 60-MINUTE INTERVIEW ON HOT 97

    http://www.zshare.net/audio/angie-martinez-50-cent-interview-full-02-01-2007-mp3.html

Hot 97 popped off yesterday during Angie Mar's show with 50 and Cam airing dirty laundry over the phone. Get that audio here Apparently Cam is pissy about people--mainly 50--talking shit about independent labels like Koch records and how Dipset isn't too wise with their distributing money. They use Koch as a distributor. Threats were thrown around and certain folks sounded like they were PMSing. Cam yelled at Curtis about him talking shit about Koch, but still letting his dude Prodigy go over there. Then Cam had to bring up Jimmy's sales v. Lloyd Bank's sales and said for Jimmy to be "independent"--he still sold Banks on The Unit. Interesting.

Then Styles P called in to further the spectacle talking about him being a free agent and 50 was trying to get him on his team some kind of way. Get the audio here But Styles wasn't trying to have it at all and called his ass out...especially about 50 supposedly pushing his album back and leaving the streets. But does Styles have crabs in the barrel syndrome? or is he just speaking truths? Get the full unchopped 60 minute show here.

And to continue with the "shit on 50" day...Jim Jones called in later on in the show. He pretty much brushed off 50 and said it's just not that serious between Dipset and 50, adding to that he "just trying to get money and it's just aggressive competition."

Nas has done it again. He did a "Where Are They Now 80's remix" and a West Coast remix. Get the audio here. I wonder if the south is next....

Jimmy Cozier Is Ballin' Jim Jones Style
    Tuesday. 2.6.07 2:58 pm
Y'all Jimmy Cozier. He was one of the first artists signed to J Records back in the day.

It was him and Olivia (before she went G Unit on ya ass!).

Peep his video for "She's All I Got."

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gUHa4wKFZU

That shit was pretty slick. But what wasn't so slick was his departure from the label. I am suppose to talk Jimmy this week to hear all about what it's really like working with music empresario Clive Davis, what he's been doing since then and what he is contributing to the forthcoming Mya album.

Of course Jimmy is dropping his own album. As dope as he is known to be behind the scenes, I am sure he saved some of that crack for his own project. It's called Perfect Timing, and features appearances from Olivia, Alicia Keys and Keyshia Cole.

The first single is "U Got Them Goods" featuring Jim Jones ((((BALLIN'!!!!))))

    Get it here.

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/eozit8

    So what say you....

Put this up against what you like in R&B and what you expect from an artist with his experience and answer this....
"U Got Them Goods" featuring Jim Jones....

    RUSH IT or FLUSH IT?

112 Disbands, And Usher Acts A Damn Fool Again!!!
    Wednesday. 12.6.06 8:02 am
    What’s up Family?

Yo I got to admit that I was hella surprised with the responses from yesterday’s Young Jezzy’s post. Who would have thought that there are still some people in my city who can see through the hype of an artist and actually decipher what REAL hip-hop is? No disrespect Jeezy but it is what it is.

Yesterday it was Jagged Edge and now it’s 112. As you all know yesterday I got word that Jagged Edge was dropped from Sony DESPITE their denial. And today I got word from my homegirl Sandra Rose that 112 is one member short as Daron Jones has supposedly left the group. If you don’t know who Daron is — he was the one who got the plastic surgery and is the tallest member, (or should I say Ex-member) of the rhythimicly soothing quartet. Though there is no official statement from the melodic southerners as of yet I’m sure we will be hearing more about this in the coming days, so stay tuned. Usher is getting out of control these days. According to numerous sources who have emailed me, Usher might finally have to answer for his seemingly aggressive ways when it comes to the Atlanta papaparattzi (did I spell that right?). First it was Usher acting a fool earlier this year at one of Jermaine’s honoree events by roughing up famed photographer Sandra Rose. And now he might be facing a legal battle with another photographer who claims that Usher roughed them up at Club Fever last Thursday night. The photographer, who shall remain nameless (you wouldn’t know who they were if I told you anyway), has filed charges after said singer allegedly injured the photographer's hand and broke their camera.

Usher needs to sit his ass down somewhere. Homeboy is lucky that anybody even cares about what he’s doing anymore. His last album was hot -- dare I say a classic, but Usher’s longevity in the game of R&B and Pop music is fleeting. Chris Brown is right on his coat tails, not in terms of success but in terms of interest. He better be glad that anybody gives a damn about what he’s doing. Has anyone heard his newly formed singing group “One Chance”? Usher compared their singing ability to that of Boyz II Men, but said the group has the swagger of Jodeci. Please Ush spare us the lackluster talent, and spare them the embarrassment. I’d say they have the vocal ability of H-Town with the swagger of Pretty Ricky. LOL!!

I’ll keep you posted on this story as more develops.

Here is the video of the Snowman and Ludacris’s performances on The Billboard Music Awards last night. This is Ludacris’s fourth primetime television performance for that damn “Money Maker”. Am I the only one who holds entertainers to a higher level when it comes to entertaining me? Do something different man I mean really!!!

    Oh and by the way,

SOHH Gyant is looking for you!!

Yo, I'm doing my best to make this Atlanta spot pop with excitement, but I need your help. I believe we got a lot of talented people in the "A," more so here than any other place. I want to expose my city's great talent – and ultimately you! If you got some skills and are trying to maximize your exposure then you need to holla at me.

I'm launching "Sohh Atlanta's Own" – a great way to showcase my kats with those insane lyrical/vocal skills. Don't play yourself; Sohh is one of the biggest leading hip-hop websites on the planet. The biggest acts in the world come here to see what we say, what we're doing, and who got the skills to take the game to the next level.
Every Friday, starting December 8th, I will post the hottest talents who submit me their music in MP3 format. Make ya move, and when you get to the top you can make sure to send me a check.

    Hip-Hop Quote of the Day..

"For many young peple - regardless of race, color or economic standing, hip-hop culture is the voice of their often misunderstood and misinterpreted generation - a voice that, up until now, was generally ignored"
