Daily Hip-Hop News:Update: Tyrese Responds To Domestic Abuse Reports, Says Accusations "Are Absolutely False" Wednesday. 1.31.07 12:11 pm

Tyrese
In an effort to dispel rumors that he physically assaulted his pregnant girlfriend, Tyrese is addressing the accusations in hopes of clearing his name.
As previously reported by SOHH, the R&B crooner/actor came under investigation earlier this month when authorities were called to the his home on the morning of Januray 4 after he and his then five-month pregnant girlfriend got into a heated argument. Tyrese himself had reportedly left the scene when paramedics arrived. The singer's girlfriend initially claimed that the R&B crooner had hit her twice, once in the arm and once in the thigh, but later denied that statement, reportedly telling a nurse at the hospital where she had been taken for treatment that she had not been assaulted.
Until now, the singer/actor has been tight lipped regarding the incident, choosing only to have his lawyer address the matter, but now he has released a statement in which he is proclaiming his innocence.
"I am a very private person but as untrue information is still circulating, I feel I owe it to my fans and supporters to finally address the rumors and put them to rest once and for all," Tyrese stated. "Please be assured that accusations of an alleged physical altercation between my girlfriend and me are absolutely false. No charges were filed. I am grateful for the prayers and support I have received over the last several weeks from my fans and supporters and I want to thank them."
The singer is currently enjoying the success of his latest single, "One Girl", which is receiving a steady stream of both radio and video play on stations around the country. The song is from his recently released double album Alter Ego, which debuted at No. 23 on the charts, selling 116,100 units in its first week. The album also features guest spots from R. Kelly, The Game and Snoop Dogg, among others.

Jermaine Dupri
Universal Music Group named Jermaine Dupri the new president of urban music for Island Records today (February 7).
According to Billboard.com, the hip-hop mogul, who has produced hits for artists such as Mariah Carey, Usher, Bow Wow and Da Brat, is set to take over the position at Island, after vacating his post at Virgin Records. As previously reported by SOHH, Dupri recently stepped down from his position as president of urban music at Virgin, apparently after the lackluster sales of Janet Jackson's latest release 20 Y.O., which Dupri co-executive produced.
During his stint at Virgin, Dupri was responsible for signing Atlanta group Dem Franchize Boys and also was involved with Big Boi's Purple Ribbon label.
Dupri will be reunited with Antonio "L.A" Reid, who is chairman of the Island Def Jam Music Group, as well as friend Jay-Z, president of Def Jam.

Gerald Lavert
Roughly three months after his untimely demise, a coroner has ruled that R&B singer Gerald Levert's death was caused by an accidental combination of prescription narcotics and over-the-counter drugs.
As SOHH previously reported, the 40-year-old crooner, son of O'Jays singer Eddie Levert, died from a heart attack in his Cleveland home last November.
According to the Associated Press, Geauga County Coroner Kevin Chartrand revealed that the drugs in Levert's bloodstream included the narcotic pain relievers Vicodin, Percocet and Darvocet, along with anxiety medication Xanax and two over-the-counter antihistamines.
The official cause of death was acute intoxication, and the death was ruled accidental. The autopsy also revealed Levert had pneumonia
Andy Gibson, a family spokesman, said Levert was taking the pain medication because of chronic pain from a lingering shoulder problem and surgery in 2005 to repair a severed Achilles tendon. He also divulged that Levert took Xanax for anxiety attacks.
Levert's last studio album, In My Song, will be released via Atlantic Records tomorrow (February 13). A book the singer co-wrote with his father titled "I Got Your Back: Our Bond As Father and Son" will be released in June.

Cam'Ron
In a recent interview conducted while he shot his 50 Cent diss video "Cuurtis," Cam'ron revealed why he refers to the G-Unit honcho by his government name among other things.
"His name is Curtis. His legal name is Curtis Jackson," explained Killa Cam. "The real 50 Cent never snitched on anybody, never was happy when his accomplice got life in prison, he was a thorough dude and died thorough. That's why I call him 'Cuurtis.'
Cam'ron also mocked 50 for asking fans for help on an anti-Cam myspace page he alleges the G-Unit boss set up.
"He has a MySpace page tryin' to get people to write their best Cam'ron disses. Why do you need public assistance?" questioned Cam. "You know what, help him out all you want, y'all heard him, 'he ain't chubby like Ricky Ross.' What are you talking about?" [Watch the interview here]
As SOHH previously reported, the bad blood between both artists began when they got into an argument on Angie Martinez's Hot 97 radio show two weeks ago.
50 would throw the first blow releasing the "Funeral Music" video on Friday (February 9). The clip featured a hearse with the words "Cam'ron's Career" written on it and mocked the rapper's shooting in Washington D.C. last year.
Cam responded the following day with his song "Cuurtis," which took shots at 50's appearance and stressed that the G-Unit boss is a snitch, while the video hit the internet yesterday (February 15). The clip featured Cam'ron emerging from a coffin at his funeral and hitting the streets to air out 50 Cent. In different scenes of the video, various people on the streets including a police officer, echo the song's chorus, "Cuurtis."

Young Buck
G-Unit rapper Young Buck is preparing to give fans what they've waited nearly three years for when his album Buck The World drops on March 20. In part one of this SOHH Exclusive Buck Marley talks about why he's the "Clean Up Man," his upcoming MTV reality show, and 50's beef with Cam.
Boasting production from Dr. Dre, Eminem, Hi-Tek, Lil Jon, Jazze Pha and Three 6 Mafia, Buck the World features guest appearances from Lyfe Jennings, Trick Daddy, Snoop Dogg, Bun B, 8Ball & MJG, 50 Cent, T.I., Young Jeezy and Pimp C. Buck also steps outside of his genre with collaborations from Kymani Marley and Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington.
"I got a record with Chester Bennington titled "Slow Your Roll." It will probably be my third single. It's probably the realest record I ever wrote in my life, every word, every rhyme, every lyric when you hear it it's true and I guarantee you will lose your breath," Buck told SOHH.
Among the album's 19 tracks is a song titled "Clean Up Man," a nickname given to Buck by Dre, 50 and Jimmy Iovine in recognition of his ability to connect with his audience.
"I really put it in on this record. You have to be real good to make 50 Cent and Jimmy Iovine call you the 'Clean Up Man.' I know I did the damn thing, because I never really prepared myself as much as I did for the record, not behind no special reason, but behind me wanting success period. Not because of Game, [Fat] Joe or none of that shit, I've been waiting a long time to be in the position I'm in," Buck said.
Buck's newfound position comes with some "real" TV time, via his upcoming MTV series.
"It's based on my life behind the music. I'm showing you what's going on in my life -- a lot of rappers rap lives of other artists and lives of they homeboys. My reality show is narrated through my records. You'll see these characters come to life that I'm speaking on, whether it's my Auntie that's in the penitentiary dying of AIDS or whatever it might be. It will be 16 episodes, we don't have a set air date yet, but you can look forward to it sometime around Summer," Buck revealed.
Asked about 50's current multimedia tug-o-war with Cam'Ron, Buck made it clear he plans to stay out of the drama.
"I ain't fucking with that shit. That shit is crazy. It is what it is. I think 50 can handle it on his own, and at the end of the day Jim Jones done called me and let me know how he look at shit and I let him know how I look at it," Buck told SOHH.
The Cashville rapper added that he won't be airing any rap beef on Buck the World.
"You won't hear none of that diss shit on this album, none towards Game, or Jadakiss, or Fat Joe," Buck declared. "There is enough put out from my end and they end that the fans don't even want to hear that shit. There is already enough for the streets to decide who's real, who's fake, what's real and what's fake."
Stay tuned for Pt. 2 of this SOHH Exclusive where Young Buck discusses his troubles with the law, the end of his record ban and how his life mirrors Tupac's.
