All Star Break Is Over, And Nobody's Dead- Not Even Game Or Buck...
    Tuesday. 2.20.07 2:50 pm

We got a couple of things to touch on today...

First off, the All Star break generated far fewer headlines than I predicted. While I would love to conclude that this means the hoards of hip hop artists who descended on the City of Sin for the weekend conducted themselves in a responsible and mature fashion, I highly doubt that’s the case.

A more realistic conclusion would be that: A) Dudes knew the porkchop patrol would be out in full muthafuckin’ effect this weekend, and therefore they kept a low profile, and B) getting your pockets ran through/ chain snatched/ etc. by local vegas grimys is an embarrassing situation, and one best kept out of the media dailies if possible. I’m pretty sure that dudes came crew-heavy and/or bodyguard-heavy to Vegas to avoid scenario B, but there’s a rumor circulating that at least one rapper did lose his chain this weekend.

The one big story that did seem to emerge from this weekend (besides the false rumor about E-40 being involved in a major car crash) was the reported near-scuffle between The Game and Young Buck at a T.I./Young Jeezy party. For those of you who haven’t already heard the story in one of it’s various forms, Young Buck got up on stage while Jeezy was up there and started making gestures at The Game and his crew, who were seated in the VIP area. Jayceon and company apparently started making their way down to the stage, but were stopped short by security, who apparently escorted Buck and Jeezy outside while restraining Game and his squad. Both artists apparently went the rest of the weekend without incident, but the craziest part of the whole situation is that Game was reportedly looking to diffuse the situation rather than aggravate it. If that’s true, I gotta say I’m proud dude is finally trying to take the high road. But first I’m gonna have to wait another week to see if any new G-Unot diss tracks pop addressing the subject. And for being one of the few people Game has actually given dap to in the last year, this certainly puts Jeezy in an uncomfortable situation.

All in all though, I’m glad to hear everybody made it out of Vegas alive. Who would've guessed that two rappers who hold such a well-publicized grudge against one another (and who both have a penchant for tempermental violent outbreaks in clubs) could be in the same room without taking things to fisticuffs or worse? I guess it just goes to show ya... that's entertainment...

Alright ya'll on Saturday, March 3rd the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN) is returning to Houston, TX to kick off its 2007 national "Get Your Money Right" tour on financial empowerment. The Co-Chairmen of this tour are Russell Simmons and Dr. Benjamin Chavis, and they will have hip-hop stars such as Ciara, Monica, Chamillionaire, E-40, Chingo Bling and Slim Thug backing them up. Also, Mathew Knowles super producer Bryan-Michael Cox, and Congressman Al Green (D-TX) will be present.

The whole point of this thing is to let young people know about the importance of personal finance and financial responsibility. The tour begins at Texas Southern University's Granville M. Sawyer Auditorium, located at 3100 Cleburne Street, in Houston, Texas. It will last from Noon until 3:00 pm, and the doors open at 11:00 am.

We are returning to Houston enthusiastically. This city continues to produce some of the best and most committed artists that help make a difference across America and throughout the world

    , said Russsell Simmons.

The Summit on financial empowerment is an opportunity to share important lessons about life and the effective use of money.

The opportunity to live productively begins with a plan that mandates personal financial responsibility

, said Johnny Furr, Vice President of Urban Marketing and Community Affairs for Anheuser-Busch, Inc.

We consider it a real benefit to support HSAN's mission to provide young people with the tools, knowledge and inspiration they need to begin creating the futures they want tomorrow, today

. The media partners for the Houston Hip-Hop Summit on Financial Empowerment are The Box KBXX 97.9 FM Houston and KPRC- TV 2 Houston (NBC). We're Gonna Change The Pace A Little Bit On SOHH Atlanta Today: Hip-Hop:Beyond Beats And Rhymes
    Wednesday. 2.28.07 11:50 am
With all the healthy discussion over Hip-Hop in mainstream media recently, and the proper or more less—improper way it’s influencing our society. I’ve searched the internet to find more subject matter to give my readers. Bottom line, he’s an activist.

Meet Byron Hurt. He’s an independent film maker who’s made a tight new documentary titled Hip-Hop:Beyond Beats And Rhymes. More than a filmmaker, Byron Hurt is an anti-sexist activist who provides cutting-edge male leadership, expert analysis, keynote addresses, and workshop facilitation in the field of sexual and gender violence prevention and education.

In his gripping new documentary that aired on PBS recently, Byron addresses the art form's problems with sexism, masculinity, violence, and homophobia.

The documentary is raw, and very much as real as it gets. He points out some key elements that Hip-Hop has instilled in many of us like:
    1. You got to be Strong
    2. You got to be Tough
    3. You got have a lot of girls around you
    4. You got have money
    5. You got to be a Player or a Pimp
    6. You got to be in control
    7. You got to dominate other men and other people

And let’s face it, as far as Hip-Hop is concerned if you aren’t any of the things listed above, or at least the majority. Then you’re not a man. The brutha raises some interesting questions that should be addressed, maybe even to yourself.

Does the fantasy of a Black man that we hear about in Hip-Hop songs or see in Hip-Hop videos translate into reality? And if it does, then where does a Black man who doesn’t measure up to the characteristics mentioned above measure up in our society? Is he considered less then a man?

My goal in postings these heavy topics are to get a dialogue going between each other. We need to understand Hip-Hop better if we are ever to elevate ourselves to social awareness —yes?

I don't blame her, but then again I wouldn't let him deny my child for some cash for real, like its something wrong with being a father.
