Though their marriage is over, Russell and Kimora Lee Simmons still come together in the names of commerce and philanthropy.
The formerly happy couple, still partners in the Phat Farm clothing company, inked a deal with Coty, Inc. to launch a men's fragrance called Atman on September 3. The cologne is an extension of the Phat Farm line, but all proceeds from its sale will be donated to charity.

Atman means "spirit of man," and Simmons hopes the fragrance embodies that notion.
"I wanted to design a fragrance that would inspire men to connect with their power, spirit and destiny and take the Phat Farm lifestyle to the next level,” says Rush, well known for his devotion to yoga. "The spirit of man has unlimited potential – nothing is out of reach.”
Atman's proceeds will be given to several organizations including Keep A Child Alive, a group that provides anti-retroviral drugs to African children with HIV. Comment! (0) | Recommend! | Categories: HIP HOP NEWS [t] Oprah Gives 12 Homes to Katrina Victims Tuesday. 9.5.06 10:14 pm By: Bomani Jones

Recently, rappers such as Ice Cube and Ludacris have been critical of Oprah Winfrey’s negative view towards hip-hop. However, yesterday’s episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” proved no one can question her dedication to Black people.
After promising six months ago to build 65 new homes for victims of Hurricane Katrina, Oprah’s Angel Network moved 12 families into houses in Houston. Oprah personally pledged $10 million toward the construction of 65 new homes for victims of the storm.

Housewares and furniture were provided by Oprah’s Katrina Homes registry, which allowed viewers to go online and donate items to those displaced by Katrina.
These homes were not provided free of charge, though. Each family receiving a place worked 300 hours alongside volunteers as a “down payment.”
As expected, the new homeowners were overcome by the sight of their houses.
“It’s so beautiful!” said Tammy, whose family moved into one of the first homes. “I’m so excited I think I’m going to fall down!”

iTunes has a new competitor in the market for digital music. And unlike iTunes, this service is free.
SpiralFrog, a New York based company that bills itself as a “digital entertainment destination,” has inked a deal with Universal Music to provide music and videos online, free of charge. The advertising supported service, which claims those between 13 and 34 as its target audience, promises its downloads will be free of viruses and spyware, making them safer than those offered by pirate sites.

"Offering young consumers an easy-to-use alternative to pirated music sites will be compelling," said Robin Kent, SpiralFrog's CEO. "SpiralFrog will offer those consumers a better experience and environment than they can get from any pirate site."
Legal downloading through sites like iTunes has been a boon for the record industry. According to Soundscan, digital track sales are up 77% from last year. Album downloads have increased 126%.

Being Bobby Brown’s Shadow Tuesday. 9.5.06 10:58 pm
Morning beer cravings, child-support-adjustment cases and allegations of having been robbed of $20 million. A 14-hour hang with Bobby Brown is no Mr. Cooper experience.

Coffee is for losers. At 8 a.m. Bobby Brown is seeking more than a caffeine kick. Speaking barely above a whisper, the sleepy-eyed crooner asks no one in particular for what he considers to be the breakfast of champions: a ntruitious blend of wheat, barley and yeast…beer, if you want to get specific. Strolling the lobby of Boston’s Crosstown Center Hampton Inn, a modest hotel where single rooms max out at $169 a night, other guests are chomping on rubbery eggs and dry muffins. Some a probably passing judgement on the self-proclaimed King of R&B. Of course, a breski probably isn’t the best thing for Brown to consume on his way to a Massachusetts court of law, but he’s a stubborn man. Still, his entourage dismiss his request.
It’s hard to tell if the unflinchingly nuts Bobby we know from the runaway hit Being Bobby Brown - now filming its second season - is a made-for-TV trainwreck, or a man who consciously does the disoriented dance because he knows that it’s expected. Blame the show’s success on our need to feast on the travails of others, or the primal point-and-laugh instinct that kicks in when someone trips and falls. Any way you cut it, though, Brown, 37, is America’s guilty pleasure. Playing fly-on-the-wall, KING looks for the man behind the caricature.
