mv doulos... the oldest ship in use today
Wednesday. 11.15.06 12:31 pm
went to the oldest passenger ship (it was built in 1914, 2 years after Titanic) that is currently docked beside vivo city. it's called the MV doulos, where doulos in Greek means servant. you can sign up for a 2 years stint on board if you want to but you have to serve in all areas (big or small) while you are on board to keep the ship going. there are about 350 passengers VOLUNTEERS on board from 40 over nations around the world. They aim to bring knowledge, help and hope to all the nations they visit through the books that they sell. their bestseller all these years is the Bible and that is one book that changed more lives than any other books in the world! the tour guide who brought us around is from brazil and his name is Junior. He has already spent 1 year on board and he enjoys the experience tremendously! He mentioned that there is no culture on board as everyone is all mixed up! he stays with a japanese, an indian and a mexican in a small cabin. seeing them working and living together really amazes me and makes me yield to sign up for it! :D

anyway, i bought two books from the book fair to beef up my knowlege in parenting:
1. 10 secrets for raising sensible, successful kids
2. raising a modern-day knight (a father's role in guiding his son to authentic manhood)

the ship is open to the public until this sat. they will then set sail to philippines! bon voyage! :D

i am now occupied! :D
Saturday. 9.30.06 10:30 am
bought 3 books from the book store today! realised as i grew up that i actually love to read books but always brush this habit aside as i am busy with "more important" things than just reading! what a fool! :P

book 1: tuesday with morries by mitch albom
An inspiring book that talks about various topics in life with a never-say-die professor!

book 2: a gift from a friend by merry riana
A thought-provoking book that gets you to reflect about how you should live your life and how you can be an entreprenaur!

book 3: the purpose driven life by rick warren
A revealing book that set you on a 40 days journey to discover your purpose on earth!

rented Ice Age 2 as well! heard from my wife that it is really funny! :D may be using that for the next topic for physix: dynamics! :D

met an ex-student of mine @ a foodcourt today.. he was helping out at his dad's stall.. realised that he is repeating his o levels as he failed his sciences and that alone could not get him anywhere. find it saddening as sciences isn't really everything. why make a pass in science a compulsory criteria for entry into higher tertiary institutions?! :(

one of my students is really pro with auditionSEA. if only her nimble fingers can be translated to help her in solving maths problems... :P

thanks for the feedback about the papaphysix restaurant so far... i am beginning to form a clearer picture now! keep sharing with me about it! would love your wonderful ideas! thought of having it @ bukit timah plaza (near to king albert park)... hmmm... will this dream really come true!?

a secret that awaits for me to discover
Thursday. 10.25.07 9:02 am
I'm currently reading a book that puts together 20 over years of research on successful people from all walks of life. the goal of the author is to prove that the secret formula that was taught to him as a boy is true. The person who revealed it to him is person by the name of ..., who started off with a humble beginning as an ordinary labourer in the steel mills, applied the principles of the secret formula and yielded more than a hundred million dollars!

If you apply the principles in the book faithfully, there is nothing that you can't achieve, financially or in any goal that you may set for yourself!

sounds interesting? i'm just here to wet your appetite :)

btw, as much as i want to be wealthy, i know that it's not money that destroys a person. it's greed! I desire to be wealthy because I have a nobler goal in mind that I want to use money as a servant to accomplish for me! :)
