What a terrible way to start the class! But aren't solar-powered vampires a bit impractical? Did you know I have somewhere around one hundred forty entires? The primary function of the United States Coast Guard (besides protecting the borders and patroling national waters) is to travel back in time and battle pirates! If wishes were squids, then beggars would write. With the ink, you see. The ink of SO MANY SQUIDS. "It doesn't get any more serious than a Rhinocerus about to charge your ass." Saturday 8.7.04 3:42 pm Well, if you couldn't guess by the title... or you can't read French (assuming that's proper grammar), I've returned from my week at summer camp. It was awesome, to say the least. Oljato has always been my favorite summer camp. The food is great, the staff is fun to be with, the events are fun, and, well, there are always upsides to everything you do there. I think, even though I promised myself I wouldn't, that I'll go back next year. This was, by far, the most fun week I have ever had at a camp. I was planning on taking Shotgun Shooting since, y'know, shooting stuff is fun... as long as it's not alive, but that plan died after I heard the cost for taking it. After a day of thinking, I decided to take C.O.P.E and Soil and Water Conservation. I also ended up taking Hiking, also, since I didn't have to do anything. Anyway, for those of you wondering what C.O.P.E is, it's an acronym *gasps* for Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience. It was nice to learn that I can lift and hold all hundred and forty-something pounds of me for a good four minutes (just one of the many things we did). I also got to climb up one hundred and five feet on a vertical obstace course, which was, by far, the highest I've ever climbed. The Giant's Ladder, however, is what I'm most proud of doing. It was about seventy feet tall with ten "steps". The steps were two-by-fours that were placed progressively farther apart from each other. I climbed the ladder in about twenty minutes by myself after I figured out how to swing my body over each rung. When I was standing on the ninth rung, looking up at the tenth, it really sucked - it was contemplating how in the world I was going to reach it, since it was about a foot over my head, but I decided it wasn't worth wasting the time to think and I jumped up and grasped onto it, castrating myself in the most painful way imaginable. If you can't see why that would be fun, it's a good thing you weren't there. Anyway, in Soil and Water Conservation, my counselor was really cool. Her name was Sylvia - but that's not the cool part. She looked almost exactly like Lauren. It was even scarier to learn that she had a brother and that he too looked a great deal like Lauren. I also spent a great deal of my time at camp thinking about someone. I found my thoughts drifting towards her at least a few times each day, which was rather pleasant. Those stray thoughts helped me toil on through most of the C.O.P.E challenges... Ahem. Anyway, it was a great week. Later, DS
