Let's Make Cute Stuff!
Thursday. 5.21.09 8:02 pm

Hey guys, I know, I said I was going to post this like...days ago. But at any rate, here it is.

I saw this book at Borders, initially, and after flipping through it I knew we were destined to be together. Dalin finally broke down and bought it for me not long ago. The book is called Let's Make Cute Stuff and it is by a duo from Osaka, Japan who call themselves Aranzi Aronzo. It is narrated by White Rabbit and Brown Bunny, who both have funny things to say as they go through the steps to sewing the projects in the book.

The projects in this book are freaking adorable. They include tons of bags and pouches, a water bottle holder, 'long doll' bags and scarves (Which are bags and scarves in the shape of animals with loooong torsos. Very cute.) key chains, book covers, and so on and so forth.

Each project comes with complete step-by-step tutorials. Though the pictures are at times rather small, as a beginner at sewing, I can assure you that this book assumes no prior knowledge about sewing or construction. I have so far only completed one project from the book but none of the others intimidate me out of doing them, it's just that I lack the fabric =]

The project that I completed was the hair tie. I did the black sheep hair tie, it took me about 20 minutes from start to finish and used only a tiny bit of felt. I named him Dexter. When I don't wear my hair up, I have him on my wrist because he is so cute and I can't bring myself to take him off yet.

The obligatory size-reference shot.

I should also note that many of the applique designs could easily be adaptable for all sorts of projects. All in all, I recommend this book to all beginner to advanced sewists (Sewers?) who have a love for all things cute, or have daughters or nieces who do. It's a pleasure to flip through and the projects are fantabulous.

Let's Make Cute Stuff! gets an A+!

On an unrelated note, when posting comments, please mention who you are! Nutang doesn't automatically prompt you for your name, so it's easy to forget, but I like to know who is saying what!
