New York City Subway Graffiti is Back, City Officials Refuse to Admit Borough Natives are Responsible
    Tuesday. 12.12.06 8:47 am
According to the NY Daily News, the illegal tagging of subway cars is slowly becoming a recurring trend-- a trend responsible for the 1982 hip-hop classic "Wild Style"--but the NYPD Transit Bureau is publicly blaming "foreigners" as a means to discouraging New York City paint pros from catching the graffiti bug themselves... even though they've already been doing it.

The cops-- the same manipulative cops who recently tried to shy the attention away from their wrong-doing during that unjust shooting in Queens by inventing a "fourth witness who escaped from the scene of the crime"-- "estimated" that 70% of the tags found on New York City trains "are being carried out by Europeans." Riiiiiiiiiiiiight. Not to mention that in this Daily News article, they've appeared to have made up conspiracies of where some of these "foreign" tags originated. Please.

They clean the trains up within hours (even though it takes up to 8 hours per train), which is easily done because the graffiti epidemic has not hit hard just yet, which explains why the cops are blaming out-of-towners to distract city natives from getting busy with the spray cans... they're afraid of another 1970s out-of-control tagging epidemic, which will make it damn near impossible to keep the trains clean. But riding the 2 train in The Bronx is like sitting in a trash dump, so what's the big deal. A little paint here and there would sure brighten my commute.

But according to former '80s tagger Lady Pink, New York City's most famous graffiti artist and also a star in the movie "Wild Style," says that New York City has grown tired of painting on trains, because they know the paint will just get removed anyways. The point of the whole thing, she says, is for it to run on the tracks and be spotted by others.

But if the cops ever admitted who's really responsible for tagging the trains, trust that others would follow suit... and the painting would run far from their control. If last week's report from the Daily News sticks, which says that vandals have tagged and scratched 162 cars, more than triple the number in 2004, then there might be a problem. This is what they get for constantly raising prices on weekly and monthly Metro Cards.

Lil Scrappy Flops, Ciara Tops, and The Snowman Drops!!!
    Wednesday. 12.13.06 8:31 am

The estimated sales figures have been released for last week and its too bad Lil Scrappy can’t bask in success as his newly released CD – Breed 2 Die, Born 2 Live — has completely bombed coming in at # 24 selling a meager 84,000 units sold (estimated tally, the final sales will be released later on today). While the streets were all a buzz about Scrappy’s – G-Unit association, it seems that at the end of the day nobody cared as his, Breed 2 Die, Born 2 Live, failed to garner the majority of the hip-hop communites support. Without a major single to sustain his album how did anyone expect Scrap to come in any higher? While the argument could be made that his affiliation with the “Big Bully” of the rap game – G-Unit, has turned fans off, the one thing that can’t be said is that there wasn’t enough marketing and promotion done to push this album into a top ten success. Despite the fact that many people feel that SOHH.com are G-Unit haters (which are basless accusations), if you’ve paid even the slightest bit of attention to our innovative and highly popular site, you would have noticed that Lil Scrappy was heavily promoted on this site.

After three failed albums this year, (Scrappy,Lloyd Banks, and Mobb Deep),could the rumors of Interscope records possibly dropping G-Unit be true? It looks like their dollars just aren’t making much cents. 50 has palpably shown us that he is not ready to run a record label. From Olivia, to Lloyd Banks and every artists in between nobody has had been a breakout artists.

Interestingly enough there is a line in Scrappy’s “Money in the Bank” song that is extremely comical “My shit gonna sell, your shit gonna flop”. I guess not Scrap. It looks like its back to the drawing board. Ladies his money in the bank may be as short lived just like his fleeting rap career.

Also Shout out to Ciara for coming in at number one selling a staggering 340,000 copies (estimated) landing Ciara her first number one album.
If you’ve you noticed I haven’t said anything too negative about Young Jeezy’s album. I will admit that I expected more from the aspiring rap mogul but at the end of the day, I don’t know where I stand on the topic of The Inspiration. I know that I am personally not all that inspired. Jeezy's album dropped this week and so far my people are telling me that he's selling OK so far. Next weeks record sales will drastically impact my final decision on where I see Young Jeezy headed as far as music is concerned.

I’m going to Jeezy’s publicity blitz tonight here in da “A” I’m going to try my best to secure an interview with him. Post some good questions that you want to know about the Snowman. Remember to keep it clean I don’t want to be thrown out of the building.

Oh and for my Jeezy fans dont forget that he will be signing albums at the Best Buy on Cobb Parkway in Smyrna on Thursday, December 14th, 2006. The signing starts at 5PM and ends at 8PM. Tell em Sohh Gyant sent you!!

Is Fantasia Still An American Idol, Beyonce Pays for Own Videos
    Wednesday. 12.13.06 8:47 am
Aiight y'all today is December 12th and Fantasia's CD is released today. Homegirl had yet another date with me this past Saturday that she cancelled. But yet she's been parading all through New York City with Missy Elliot and such. She even showed up on the "Today Show."
She performed "When I See You" -- as usual the voice was sweet as hell but is Fantasia still an American Idol?

Here is my prediction: The people who voted Fantasia American Idol will forsake her at the cash register this week. Sure, she will make a splash in album sales, but I venture to say that Fanny has made the same misstep that Monica did. They confused their day job with their personal life.

Both women contend that they wanted to express their more urban side. They wanted to sing something that reflects who they really are. Survey says... WRONG! Both of these Clive Davis vixens just like Whitney Houston seem to forget that they built their fan base by being what we wanted them to be. Black girls that still sing like black girls but they sing songs that are still appropriate for the adult contemporary stations... like "Truth Is" and "Free Yourself"... not songs like "Hood Boy" and "Baby Making Hips." Not even songs like Monica's "Sideline Hoe" or "Errrrtime the Beat Drops."

What is it that happens when Missy gets into these girls pants heads? Monica is the new Tweet and Tasia is the new Monica.... Jump ship now Tasia, "Truth Is" a "Hood Boy" don't make enough to buy you platinum plaques. But that voice is sweet. A shame ain't it?

    THE STREETS ONLY UPGRADES BEYONCE

And speaking of DING! ...if you haven't heard Beyonce is giving SONY the middle finger yet again. The label told her that they weren't financing anymore videos from that flop B'Day so she is gonna pay for videos for "Upgrade" and "Greenlight" out of her own pocket. Read about it here.

"Audemar Piguet... gotcha rockin' purple labels... hey, partna lemme upgrade you!"

Ciara hit the Pepsi Smash in Denver. Shout out to Cake and Ice Cream.

    SOHH SOULFUL GIVE A WAY!!!!!

Today we are giving away "Dreamgirls" soundtracks. 15 random readers will be selected. To enter, email us at [email protected]. And for those that are curious... yes "Listen" is eligible for an Oscar nomination... so BEYONCE MAY WIN TWO OSCARS for Dreamgirls.

Stay tuned, in the coming days we've got tickets to see Sean Paul in Times Square on New Years Eve, the Scream Tour featuring Omarion, NeYo & Pretty Ricky and much more...

Akon teams up with Whitney, Lil' Wayne's Outgrowing His Britches and Other Randomness
    Monday. 12.11.06 8:24 am
    What they do family?

Sorry about the blogs being down yesterday but hey, shit happens, right? The Internet is a wonderful and often times unpredictable thing. But, you're all back so obviously you understand and you won't hold that against us.

I got a lot to talk about today! First off I have been getting a lot of e-mails recently over Billboard.com's report that Akon is going to be working on Whitney Houston's up-tempo tracks from her highly anticipated come-back album. When I say "highly anticipated," I understand that's a stretch. I'm not sure if people are anticipating it because of admiration or because it could possibly resemble a vocalistic (yea I just made that word up) car crash that we couldn't turn our eyes or ears away from. No matter what the reason I'm not sure if three semi hits from Akon elevates his status to working with arguably one of the greatest voices of our time.

Let me just preface this by saying…IM NOT HATING!! But, one has to ask what in the hell is going on with music today when people like Akon, who in his own right has worked the game but makes very disposable music, gets to work with the incomparable Whitey Houston. He's no Jermaine Dupri by any means. So I'm sorry if I can't stand up on my chair and shout to the roof top about this music collaboration. He is also rumored to be working with Michael Jackson but apparently that's up in the air. Oh and by the way if you're interested in seeing Akon on tour he's going to be launching a national tour that should hit state side next year. I'll keep you posted!!

    Speaking of Jermaine…

Now that the smoke has cleared over Janet's lackluster album sales Jermaine is finally speaking out about his current relationship with the music company powerhouse. When I was as the BET Hip-Hop Music Awards in October I tried to get him to spill the beans as to where So So Def would call home. However, he gave me a generic uninteresting answer. Nevertheless, my homeboi over at Hits Daily Double gave me the scoop on Dupri's transitory music label.

Despite the lack of follow-up announcements, Jermaine Dupri's deal for his own venture at EMI is on track and should be completed soon, according to insiders, as attorney John Branca attends to the final details on Dupri's behalf. These same insiders note that the urban music entrepreneur was heavily pursued by another major as he departed from Virgin, but conversations went for naught in that Dupri was, and remains, under contract to EMI. But that issue became irrelevant when Levy and Munns made him an offer he couldn't refuse.
We've all heard about Lil Wayne's tirade lately in excerpts from Complex magazine and now here is the cover. Is Wayne getting too big for his britches? I'm sure you read Sohh.com's headline story on his recent comments about Jay-Z. Well he also talks about the gay kisses he and Baby often share. He tells the magazine:

"I don't fault nobodyfor misunderstanding. I don't understand a lot of sh**. Baby walked inthe crib one day and was like, 'Everybody's doing this black mob sh**.When I see you niggas, this is what we're gonna do.' And that's why
you've probably got a picture of me because I stuck with everything that man said. But every nigga's done that. I've done kissed [Juvenile
    and B.G.]. No homo. Pause."

So what do you all think? The thing I find most interesting about his comment isn't that he kisses Baby, but that he also kissed on Juvenile and B.G. That's interesting to me because according to this recent interview that Juvenile did with Hot 97's Kay Slay, Juvenile categorically denied ever having locked lips with any of his former down south label mates.
    o who's lying? Y'all tell me?

    Random Atlanta Rumor Control…

Though some might say that I start a lot of shit in this city with me running my mouth, I also dispel rumors when I find out something to be completely false. Contrary to published reports, Ciara DID NOT open a dance studio here in Atlanta. My source that is close to the princess of crunk music says there is no studio, however Ciara does hope to one day work on dance projects in the future.

Yo this picture has nothing to do with hip-hop but since she's about to marry a hip-hop legend in St. Bartz this weekend (allegedly) I am determined to find a way to squeeze this in… There's a bald headed horse running around somewhere in Houston. Don't believe the hype fellas (and some ladies).

Yo, it's getting about that time…

SOHH Gyant is looking for you!!

Yo, I'm doing my best to make this Atlanta spot pop with excitement, but I need your help. I believe we got a lot of talented people in the "A," more so here than any other place. Hip-Hop Quote of the Day..

Personally, I just think rap music is the best thing out there, period. If you look at my deck in my car radio, you're always going to find a hip-hop tape; that's all I buy, that's all I live, that's all I listen to, that's all I love.

    --Eminem

Love you all like collard greens and Mojito's

    Talk to you later,

MLK Weekend is Over, And Boy Am I Tired. Plus, The Ying Yang Twins Touched Kicked Off Their Tour in ATL.!!
    Tuesday. 1.16.07 8:51 am

    What’s good Fam,

What a weekend! From Club 112 to the Compound, Atlanta celebrated the holiday weekend with parties, parties, and, did I mention, parties? If you don’t know you better ask somebody.

Atlanta’s party scene, on holidays, is on par with Miami and NYC. Ok, maybe not NYC, but definitely Miami. I had my hand in almost every event, so you know I’m tired. I will file my party report later on in the week. But, I got to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to the Ying Yang Twins for shutting it down at Club Fever this weekend.

Ok so, Atlanta based hip-hop group, The Ying Yang Twins, brought the house down this past weekend (early Friday morning) at Club Fever in Buckhead. They hit the ground running with their new “Chemically Imbalanced” tour. The house was pact as the “Whisper duo” played their high-octane set that included “Whisper Why You Twurk”, and “Naggin”. College Park residents Da Muzicianz hyped the Fever crowd up.

Many local celebrities were in attendance like Emanuel Lewis, Keith Sweat, and members of the Detroit Pistons and Denver Broncos were also present. Dont ask me which players, because I dont watch football. It might as well of been a bunch of politicians as far as my interest evel was concerned. While I’m not a huge fan of the YYT, I have to admit that they did do their thing. I have a great time and I look forward to getting a chance to interview them soon.

Check out the pictures from the event.

    Until tommorrow,

    Asta,

Young Jeezy Gets Flustered, Lloyd Brings The Remix, and Kay Slay Airs Out Lil Wayne!!!!
    Monday. 12.11.06 8:15 am

Is hip-hop dead? A lot of people seem to think so, including myself. Young Jeezy got into a heated argument with NY DJ Monie Love over the current state of hip-hop in a recent interview. At first their banter was very tongue and cheek when Monie inquired about Jeezy's opinion regarding Lil Wayne’s recent comments about Jay-Z claiming that hip-hop was dead.

But when Young Jeezy proceeded to give a standardized response, that’s when the discussion turned ugly. The end result had Young Jeezy suddenly storming out of the studio. Check it out! YOUNG JEEZY GETTING FRUSTRATED

    Speaking of Frustrated....

I know a lot of y’all are pissed about the comments being disabled, but you got to remember that sohh.com is trying to step up the competition and make our shit pop with excitement. Just bare with us, we will get it together aight?
Shout out to Lloyd, Andre 3000, and Nas for a tight remix of “You”. Though Lloyd isn't getting the national success of other young Pop and R&B artists he is still getting a lot of love from Atlanta. Every time Lloyd steps on the scene in this city the girls go crazy.

Not for nothing but you can have a decent career in this city and pull in a lot of money. Because I’m nice and y’all my family here is the download for "YOU (Remix)" Brought to you by Sohh Gyant

Niccas, (can we still use this word, or has Kramer fucked that up for all of us), are upset over Lil Wayne’s recent comments dissing Jay-Z, Pharrel, and the Clispe. I don’t know why everybody is up in arms, it is what it is. Jay has fallen off.. Let me stop talking about this shit. This is the Sohh Atlanta blog so I got to keep this shit local. But, here is the audio for y’all to check out!
4 more days peoples and its a wrap...

SOHH Gyant is looking for you!!

**SEND BIOS! I NEED TO KNOW WHO ARE SO I CAN PUT YOU ON RIGHT??**

    Hip-hop quote of the day....
I want kids of this generation to see that everything is cool, that there's some kind of unity in hip-hop. We all found something that's really important to us, and music is all we've really got.

    --Missy Elliot

    Get with you tommmorrow,

Love you all like Macoroni and Cheese!!
