All of a sudden, I've grown tired of the kid Papoose. With his crazy mixtape hustle, relentless flow and heavy New York swagger, I thought he would be the perfect fit as the new leader of NYC. But somewhere between his newfound mainstream connection and loss of mixtape interest, I lost interest.
It wouldn't be right to keep him concealed in the mixtape department; every artist needs to grow. But now that he's major, it seems that he's lost touch with the streets.
Then there's Saigon. This kid hasn't pushed nearly as many mixtapes as Papoose, but he seems to have three times the support and way less haters. However, with the way Atlantic has been fucking up, I was afraid that he would fall through the cracks as another talented rapper gone to waste. But surprisingly, The Yardfather has finally shot the video for the DJ Cocoa Chanelle-produced "Pain in My Life." The vid was done on 155th Street and B'way in Harlem.
I was glad I found this. The Brooklyn/Mooseknuckle MC once spoke to Mean about fake thugs glorifying the "gangsta life" and his plan to raise awareness about the desperate situations in the 'hood:
"What differentiates me is these rappers make it sound like that life is cool and keep talking about how 'real' it is. But for me, what's really real is how I lost all my childhood because of one mistake with a gun. I lost damn near seven years of my life from that bullshit they rap about, so I'm here to tell kids there's nothing cool about that gangsta life they glorify. All these people glorifying it, these kids rapping, they're in the studio all day and at the industry parties all night. If they were really out there in the streets every day, risking their lives and risking their freedom, they would know it's nothing to glorify.
"Of course we're gonna sell records, we're in the business of selling records. But I want to be remembered for more than that. Thirty years from now, when we look back on who did what in hip-hop, we're gonna see that 50 Cent made a song about "Candyshop, come lick my lollipop." Meanwhile, we were trying to open doors in people's minds and better the conditions for our people in the hood."
I hope all goes well for Saigon. Rap needs this.

The below paragraph was previously included in the blog but I felt it was too inappropriate. So if this applies to you, peep, and keep my shit out your mouth as you're reading it:
Before I bounce, [omitted] ...I know the feeling, as some relentless trickoff makes it his biz to come in here every so often to see if I'll entertain him... to no avail. Months of ignoring him has done nothing. GET OFF MY FUCKING TIP. Does it have a taste mothafucka? SPIT IT OUT. And wipe your mouth.
...ONE.

Shout out to the blog master SOHH Reckless:
1) A well written, meaningful, topic about Brooklyn's Heavyhitter Saigon.
2) For finally addressing the issue with all these damn stans fuckin' up such a positive, informing yet entertaining blog.
Back to the topic; I just copped the new Papoose vs. Saigon mixtape last night coming from work. I already listened to it twice front to back and I've come to the conclusion that Papoose is gonna lead the New New York revolution. This ni99a spit str8 venom on every fuckin' track. However, I still have to give Saigon his props for being able to keep up with such a lyrical monster. If these dudes joined forces and throw in Harlem's own Jae Millz in the mix, NYC should be back in the mothafuckin' building faster than the A Train to Washington Heights.
Anyways good lookin' out on the shout out Reckless.
Peace to real.

Reckless...
stop being a cry baby man....pap dropped a mixtape in june, kayslay album in august, was just on Hi-Tek's album, doin mad guest appearances, etc, etc.
dude aint lose no connection with the street man, sit back and just wait, if 6 months goes buy and you dont get your exclusive mixtape or album....i guess you can go ape shit.
pap and saigon are equally as relevent to hip hop as you want saigon to be alone haha.

Finally!!! You talking about a new comer who deserves the spotlight. I been seein Sai stomp through Brooklyn for years doing his thing. He's the greatest hope for the New New York. I think others are well intentioned but not talented enough. I just don't feel Pap much, I think his flow is too hard all the time. (Nigga you gang bangin over Bacon?) He's got interesting concepts but he fails to pull them off in his delivery in my opinion. The Yard Father definetely has Brooklyn behind him and that DJ Drama mix tape he did was fire. Peace to the usuals n-site, xclusive bk, huey, my 2 cents, slimgoody, blackfriday ect...
p.s. Immortal tech is the truth but will not get burn because he tells just that.
Posted by: Big Sun at October 13, 2006 08:18 AM
Pap could be the next great MC. A lot of his older mixtapes were better than the some he put out this year. He needs to put the album out. It seems like hes trying to hard lately with his raps trying to be one of those gay punch line rappers ("i give the facts like a fax machine", " the club is on me like a steering wheel" etc.) Save that wack shit for no talent rappers like Lil Wayne and Cassidy I know hes better than that. I still love him as I do Saigon. They are both FIRE ! cant wait for the albums from the both of them.
Posted by: Adam at October 13, 2006 08:32 AM
This is the facts....Immortal Technique spits the brutal truth but doesn't appeal to a broader audience.....Papoose got nasty lyrical as they all do but he put it in a way the street could identify with it....Saigon got the lyricals, spit the truth, and have the street credentials to go with it...Plus he appeals to a wider audience....I think their success depends on us if we would pick our ass up and go buy their CD"S when it drops regardless of whut the first single is.....MUch Respect...MYSPACE.COM/BOTTLESBABY

That's what up! Mixtape was sick, sick , sick and took me awhile to get over that one. You have to give to Pap though too. I heard some stuff from him and his delivery is getting better the dude is just fuckin raw, unpolished talent. When Pap nails dude is going to one serious problem. Yo it's started to look like it will be a lyrical 2007. All you nursery rhyme dudes you better soke it up cause your finish. Real Talk!

What's up to the usuals!
I see Reckless showed up in this piece. Good look out! Don't worry, today is take back our house day. I have a 2 hr meeting this morning btwn 10-12 but I'll be back in about 2 est and I'm unloading a week of angst on any stan stupid enough to open up their mouth.
To topic:
I'm not feeling Pap either. I expected something better than a high pitched Lloyd Banks. I like Saigon. It's about time a young'n came out and spit some truth and bought some real thoughts to the game. It needs it and for all the young niggas that check in here talking that old rappers need to retire shit, does Saigon fit into that same category?
I'm on some grimey, Chicago shit today. Sometimes that equates to NY shit so stans we're on a zero tolerance policy today. Don't think I can't pick your ass out if you use someone else's name either. I know my peeps and I'll lean on your ass all afternoon if you provoke me.
Shout to the real, Reckless and anyone else that loves Sohh NYC.

And it don't stop. Rap mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs was celebrated today (Oct. 13) in Chicago with his own day--his second such honor.
According to the Associated Press, Mayor Richard Daly declared today as Diddy Day and presented Diddy with a set of cuff links bearing the city's seal.
He also called the entertainer "a great role model." In May 2005, Las Vegas declared May 14 as Diddy Day.
Diddy, who is CEO of Bad Boy Entertainment, is currently on a national tour promoting his upcoming album Press Play, due in stores on Oct. 17.
In related news, four members of Diddy's girl group Danity Kane were involved in a car accident last evening (Oct. 12) in Toledo, OH and were sent to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The girls were en route to a sound check for a concert at Club Headliners around 7:00 p.m. when the accident occurred.
"Four members of the group and road managers were in a limo heading to Headliners when they were struck by another vehicle traveling at about 45 miles per hour," the group's spokesman Tim Miller told local affiliate NBC 24. "They were all taken to St. V's where they were treated and released."
Danity Kane, which consists of group members Dawn, Aubrey, D. Woods, Shannon and Aundrea, was featured on Diddy's MTV's reality series Making the Band 3, which he executive- produced and starred in.
Fans were notified of the mishap around 10:50 p.m., about 45 minutes after the group's scheduled performance time.
"They were pretty banged up with bumps and bruises," Miller said. "Under the circumstances we felt it was best to cancel."
