Liverpool flying high!!
Tuesday, August 15, 2006
Until very recent years... English Premiership League (EPL), which claimed to be one of the most competitive football league in world now, was always been dominated by three power houses in any given time.. until, Roman Abramovich take over Chelsea's ownership and now the Blues have break through the ranks... and adding the fourth power house in EPL- alongside the most noticeable power houses in last decade in EPL, Man Utd and Arsenal and the everlasting Liverpool who already established power house before the time of Man Utd and Arsenal.

Spending heavily on transfer market have prove to be what needed to tip the balance in EPL... bringing in world class talents with big cheque... Chelsea managed to run away with the EPL title two consecutive years... now looking foward to add the third. And in an instant, reshape the EPL landscape, as the other power houses were forced to fine a way to take them down. Such a solid position they are in now. One that i think even the Chelsea die hard fan don't think possible 4-5 years back.

While all the fans out there debating which will be the team that have the ability to give Chelsea a run for their immeasureable money... i personally think that among the left three... Liverpool stand the best chance. Why?? Firstly because i'm a big fan of Liverpool. Secondly, because in my humble view, both Man Utd and Arsenal are currently rebuilding their squad. Its gonna take a year or two before the young lads finally able to bring the teams to new height. If they don't stumble, which i don't think they will, given the proven record of both Alex Fergusson and Arsene Wenger.

but i do believe that in the next few years, Liverpool and Chelsea will lead the show. And the rivalry of both clubs will soar up high. U can simply think the build up Mourinho-Benitez feud, is pretty much like what happen to Wenger-Fergusson.

The last Community Shield Final clash between the Blues and Reds lay a good in-depth view to what is coming... Chelsea stand tall with their latest recruits. £30m Shevchenko probably shows why he was tagged at that price. Playing greatly, showing a mature performance with silky running and great awareness, plus a good sense of finishing as he test Liverpool's defense from time to time. In midfield, Mourinho stage a double attacking midfielder to provide additional force with Chelsea's last season engine Lampard and world-class midfield general Ballack forming a partnership. In post Cudicini make his appeareance in the absent of Cech.
On the other side of the field, Benitez start off with starlwarts such as Gerrard, Hyppia, Xabi Alonso, and newly purchased striker Bellamy; named among the subs.
Against the not-so-fresh team, as per claimed by Mourinho himself, Rafa's decision surely be questioned should Liverpool fail to win. But instead the Anfield side shows great quality as unit, even no one in Liverpool's book that come nearing Shevchenko's £30m quality, yet they manage to find within their ranks the means to win.As Benítez's men have previously proved in the Champions League and FA Cup, there is no fluke in their capacity to unsettle Chelsea.

The introduction of Jermaine Pennant, Mark Gonzalez and Fabio Aurelio, plus the bullish striker, Craig Bellamy provide great depth to Liverpool's play style. As wide flanks consistantly on motion, rampaging both flanks at will. Even Essien's steady performance wasn't enough to keep Liverpool's midfield flow in check. Lacking up front finisher becoming more frustrating especially considering Shevchenko's threat at the other end of field. Momo Sissoko's performance command the highest respect that day. He show such a strength, well-timed tackles, and great determination... and effectively shuts down Lampard and Ballack. Once again he proved Rafa's last season words, "I've seen Vieira plays when his at Momo's age, i think Momo is a better player".

Well while many may argue, that Community Shield may not be valid ground to access the teams just yet, it is a crucial match to say at least, as who ever walk out winner, get a big boost of morale and confidence for the coming season. And while like many of my fellow friends, conveniently pointed out that Liverpool only win 3 matches out of 11 clash in the past two season... there is something you might forget to see... Liverpool won all the important matches... when everything on the line, when tensions raise high, in make-or-break situation, the Reds always fly high!

May this win be start of great season.
