Snoop Dogg Heading To Nigeria To Celebrate Nation's Independence From Britian
    Sunday. 9.10.06 7:35 pm
Snoop Dogg will help Nigeria celebrate its independence by participating in the first annual This Day Music Festival.

Taking place on Oct. 7 and 8 in Lagos, Nigeria, the two-day event will commemorate the 46th Anniversary of Nigeria’s Independence from Britain.

The festival will be marked with a series of activities and concerts aimed at promoting the revitalization of Nigeria’s cultural centers.

Snoop, real name Calvin Broadus, will join a star–studded casts which comprises of Beyonce, Jay- Z, Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, Ciara and En Vogue.

Other acts on the bill include top Nigerian acts King Sunny Ade, Tu Face, DBanj, Dare Art Alade, Weird MC, Asha and Seun Anikulapo-Kuti.

"This is the biggest event to be hosted in Africa and easily the number one music event anywhere in the world this year," organizer Ola Joshua told Nigeria's This Day newspaper. "With Nigeria's return to good international standing, a reform-based and growing economy, things are certainly looking better in Nigeria and we believe it's time to showcase Nigeria to the world especially as we mark our 46th year of Independence.”

As an added bonus, Fan Zones are being created in Lagos and across Nigeria so that families who cannot afford tickets can watch the event live on big screens, at a very low cost.

Snoop, who has lent his time to various philanthropic ventures, recently headlined South Africa’s first-ever People’s Celebration and performed concerts in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

The Doggfather is currently preparing his eighth LP The Blue Carpet Treatment, which arrives in stores Nov. 21.

The album features production from Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Rick Rock, Pharrell and features guest appearances by artists such as Stevie Wonder, Ice Cube, The Game, Brandy, R. Kelly and MC Eiht.

Ironically, Snoop Dogg was banned from the United Kingdom in May, after the rapper and his entourage were involved in a brawl with airport security in London's Heathrow airport the previous month.

Bone Crusher Stomps Into Rock, Sheds Pounds
    Sunday. 9.10.06 7:47 pm
    By Nolan Strong and Dove

While many fans recognize heavyweight rapper Bone Crusher from his hit single "Neva Scared" and his starring role in the latest season of VH1's Celebrity Fit Club 4 reality series, the Atlanta-bred MC is hoping to find new success in the rock world.

Bone Crusher, born Wayne Hardnett, recently assembled a group of musicians to form the band The Onslaught, which features Bone Crusher rapping and singing.

"I got a bunch of crazy black boys that like that metal s**t," Bone Crusher told AllHipHop.com, adding that he is preparing another Hip-Hop album titled Planet Crusher.

Planet Crusher, which is due out in Jan. is the follow up to Bone Crusher's sophomore album Release The Beast, which hit stores in July 2006 on Roy Jones Jr.'s Body Head Entertainment and 845 Entertainment.

The album failed to match the success of Bone Crusher' 2003 debut release AttenCHUN!, which spawned the hit single "Neva Scared."

Bone Crusher is currently one of the standout celebrities featured on Celebrity Fit Club 4, where celebrities compete in physical and motivational competitions designed to shed pounds and win prizes.

During the show, the rapper, who stands 6'1, revealed he never worried about his weight, which had risen to almost 430 pounds. He changed his mind when he viewed a videotaped segment of his wife crying and expressing her fear for his health.

During Celebrity Fit Club 4, Bone Crusher must shed 45 pounds.

Other celebrities on the show include Angie Stone, Ted Lange (Isaac from The Love Boat), Vincent Pastore ("Big Pussy" from The Sopranos), Nick Turturro (NYPD Blue, Malcolm X, Jungle Fever), Erika Eleniak (Playboy model, Baywatch), Carnie Wilson and Tina Yothers (Family Ties).

Ever the entrepreneur, those with keen eyes can spot Bone Crusher wearing his new clothing line called Panda throughout the season.

The Panda clothing line caters to both men and women and is slated to hit stores in 2007.

N.O.R.E. Talks Reggaeton Album "N.O.R.E. Y La Familia."
    Sunday. 9.10.06 7:50 pm
    By Alexis Jeffries

N.O.R.E. (born Victor Santiago Jr.) will release his first all-reggaeton album N.O.R.E. Y La Familia…Ya Tu Sabe next Tuesday (Sept. 12) on Roc La Familia / Island Def Jam.

“There are a lot of Latinos who don’t speak Spanish, and that doesn’t mean we’re not proud of our heritage,” N.O.R.E. said.

N.O.R.E. Y La Familia features collaborations with Don Omar, Daddy Yankee, Diddy, Pharrell, Fat Joe, Tru Life and more. The Queens-bred rapper rhymes in English and Spanish throughout the album, keeping the project bilingual.

The album features the track “Tribute to Hector Lavoe,” which samples the late salsa legend’s classic recording “Mentira.” The song is one of N.O.R.E's favorite songs on the album.

“We did this whole album looking at Hector Lavoe’s picture because that’s who inspired us,” N.O.R.E. explained. “That’s who my pops listened to. I wanted to record a tribute to him because if there hadn’t been a Hector Lavoe, there probably would be no reggaetón.”

N.O.R.E. first earned a loyal fan base as one half of rap duo Capone-N-Noreaga.

Their 1997 debut album, The War Report, was released to critical acclaim, spawning hits like “L.A., L.A.” and “T.O.N.Y.”

N.O.R.E. officially went solo in 1998 with his multiplatinum-selling album N.O.R.E, featuring the Neptunes-produced club hit single "Superthug."

The Game's Sophomore Set Pushed Back
    Saturday. 9.16.06 11:45 am

Friday - September 15, 2006 by Alexis Chase
    The Game

The Game's sophomore album The Doctor's Advocate is taking a little longer than expected. Instead of November 7th the Black Wall Street/Geffen release is now scheduled to drop a week later on November 14th.

Last month it was confirmed that the Game would be releasing his second album on his own Black Wall Street label through Geffen Records, rather than through G-Unit/Aftermath. Since the release of his debut album The Documentary Game has experienced ongoing friction with rapper and head of G-Unit 50 Cent. The rapper born Jayceon Taylor has been at the center of several controversies as of late. As SOHH previously reported, Game was involved in an altercation with fellow California rapper Ras Kass at a Los Angeles night club just this week.

While Game's current single "It's Ok (One Blood)" is getting plenty of burn on radio, the label is also planning to drop a second track, and work both singles simultaneously. The new song "Let's Ride" was produced by Scott Storch.

In addition to Storch, fans can expect to hear production from Timbaland, Just Blaze, Cool & Dre, Kanye West and Dr. Dre. Game's manager Jimmy Rosemond spoke with SOHH last month to confirm that despite his move from Aftermath, Game would continue to work with Dr. Dre. In addition to Junior Reid, who appears on "It's Ok," The Doctor's Advocate features guest collaborations with Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg and Nas, among others.

The Doctor's Advocate will be available on November 14th.

AHH Accessories Wireless News E-mail Story Print Story Get the new SIDEKICK III Jay-Z Makes Vanity Fair's 'New Establishment' Power List
    Saturday. 9.16.06 12:17 pm

Def Jam Records President and CEO Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter can add another accomplishment to his growing list of achievements.

The mogul/rapper ranked number 46 on Vanity Fair's annual New Establishment power List, joining Oprah Winfrey (9) and Richard Parsons of Time Warner (11) as the only African-Americans on the list.

Carter is also one of three musical artists that made the list, along with U2 lead singer Bono (24) and Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger (56).

Carter, who recently aligned with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and MTV to bring attention to the world's water crisis, is gearing up for a world tour.

The outing is slated to kick off this month with stops in Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.

This is the first year Jay-Z has made the list of powerful moguls, which also includes Google's co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page, Wal-Mart's CEO H. Lee Scott Jr., Viacom CEO Sumner Redstone and others.

The issue hit newsstands last week and features Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and their baby Suri on the cover.

In related news, Jay-Z recently confirmed that he will release a new album by the end of this year.

Entertainment Weekly reports Jay-Z will release the highly-anticipated recording, titled Kingdom Come, this fall.

Among the featured producers are Timbaland, Kanye West , Dr. Dre and Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin, who Jay said crafted beats for a song called "Beach Chair."

Kingdom Come will be the first album from Jay-Z since 2003's The Black Album.

That album was supposed to be Jay-Z's final release, but he admitted an urge to return to the studio and started working on the project over the summer.

"Something, when you love it, is always tugging at you and itching, and I was putting it off and putting it off. I started fumbling around to see if it felt good," Jay-Z explained to Entertainment Weekly.

Fans can expect the new album to be "more in the vein of The Black Album than The Blueprint, " said the mogul, who admitted to dabbling with "different types of music."
