Missing out on the Lupe Fiasco concert at school. I have a massive headache and a concert definitely wouldn't help. Hopefully I'm not getting sick, but this random San Diego weather is making it hard to stay healthy!

Taking cognitive science makes you think.. and experiment.
I did an experiment on my friend yesterday. She talks with A LOT of hand gesturing (which is probably why she's so into sign language), so I made her sit on her hands and told her to talk without using any hand gestures. She couldn't even say a complete sentence; she actually had a hard time forming words because she couldn't use her hands. Interesting, eh?

For all you deep thinkers out there.. I have a question(s) that was asked during our class:
What is language?
Some people say it's a way to communicate, but is that all what language is.. just a way to communicate? Do animals have language? Babies? What if there was no language at all?

Think about it.

that's a very interesting question you posted. well i personally think that language is not jst for communicate wise but its also a form of story telling of cultures n history of a language itself. i remember i had a discussion wth my bro regardin animal sounds n i take that as a way for them to communicate. for instance, like how the dolphins communicate with sounds that are unfamiliar to us human, those sounds might jst be their language like how we human do it. n im sure babies are the same as well. their cries n laughter is a language between babies.

and i can never imagine this world without language cuz if thats the case there would not be any music to our ears or even noise.. it will be purely on sign language, even that's a language...am not sure if im makin any sense here, hope im not confusin u

That is a very, very interesting course you are taking. I think if I were to make one of my friend not say "and so on" in a sentence, he would have a hard time too.

Language is how people in a particular area of the world communicate with each other. Language differs from place to place, even if it is similar or the same, there will still be differences between each. Its main purpose is as a way to communicate.

I do believe that animals have their own distict languages through the sound they make and babies, their first language is mostly made up of shrieking.

It is possible that there was no language at all. After all, it is just a word made up by human beings.
