This Is Not Another Thing
Monday. 10.25.04 9:09 am
Well I haven't written an entry just letting people know what's been going on. Rather instead I've been writing these weird obscure ones that I don't think anyone's gotten. Hey, that's what happen when you write these things in the morning after you're tired and just taken a quiz. ``

Anyway, things have been really good lately. Class and life in general. Not specifically in that order. =) I got to see my parents this past weekend, they came up here on Saturday for parent's weekend. So that was nice. I'm also going home this upcoming weekend, so yay!! Twyla and Jessica are coming back and picking me up on the way. Thank you, thank you. It'll be nice to be home again, at least for a day or so.

I'm busy as always. It never fails, lol. As soon as things start to quiet down and I get in control of stuff things always come up that make me busy again. And by my choice too. Like I got a job working about 10-15 hours a week on web database programming here. Which is nice because I get to work on it from my own computer and make my own hours. I really like that. Actually I was thinking the other day and it would be pretty cool to think about maybe setting up my own little company being a contractor for programming and websites and stuff like that. Its something to think about down the road I guess. I mean that's the stuff I like to do and you get to work on all kinds of different projects. I'll have to give that some serious thought. Anyway, that and different societies. I think I'm going to join the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) chapter here. It doesn't cost that much, plus you get a free magazine each month, and it looks good on resumes. Plus the fact I was offered membership into the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. And I have to do one more event with them before initiation next month. For the most part I like keeping busy and having something to do, now I have no excuse to be doing nothing. ``

I came to the realization today that my supposed career choice in life, mainly that of programming and such, is a field that produces nothing tangible. Well almost nothing tangible. I mean a mechanical engineer can show off cars they've worked on, motors they've built, an aerospace engineer can point to a supersonic jet and say, "I designed that", a civil engineer can stand next to a skyscraper and accounce that that was his doing, a computer engineer can... show you a CD?

I mean really, with the exception of circuit boards, computer engineers really don't create anything physically tangible in the sense of holding something and saying "that was me." You can't touch software, connectivity can't be put in a container, email can't be attached to your refridgerator door, and you can't take a picture of the Internet. That doesn't mean it isn't worth something. I wouldn't do it if it didn't mean something. But in the traditional sense you aren't actually creating something physical. And yet people pay thousands of dollars for a piece of software, and will pay $50 or so a month to be on the Internet. Society seems to value this form of mental stimulate more than physical stimulation when it comes to products. Video games. Billions of dollars in revenue every year, and yet the game takes place in our heads. Nothing physical save the controller. Its the colors on the screen reacting to your input that makes it so engaging. This kind of entertainment gets valued more and more. I think its interesting.

Oh, by the way, those were blocks of quotes from movies, every block contained quotes all from the same movie. Princess Bride, Clue, Truman Show, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Tiny Toon Adventures: Summer Vacation, The Great Mouse Detective, and Star Wars. And the story with the squirrel was a lie. I did see a squirrel get trapped and dart off to one side, but no one screamed. The contradiction was the statement "I'm lying." Because if I am lying, then that statement is true and therefore not a lie. If that's true, then I did lie which means what I said was actually true, therefor not a lie. Either way, it leads to a contradiction.

Later.*kisses* I love you
