Spyware
Sunday. 7.4.04 1:15 am
Adaware and Spybot are not perfect. I still get popups and both programs say my computer is clean. I updated the definitions for both programs. I still get popups. More recently when I try to start my dialup connection, it will work and I'll connect. But then a minute or two later, it will fail and disconnect because another connection is trying to start. Odd... because I only have one dialup connection. So I go to the network connections page and lo and behold a second connection is present. *I* certainly didn't make it and it is disconnecting me from the Internet. Best of all it is named "jigallo." Now although I do commend this spyware author for his humor, my computer does not need to be connecting to the "jigallo" network, lol.

I need to reformat before I go back fall semester anyway. Clean ship and start anew. Which reminds me, I need to buy some DVD-R's to store all my data and stuff before reformatting... *makes mental note* Maybe I can get them at Wal-Mart *grin* ``

Later.*kiss*

A fix?
I found a pop up blocker proggy that cost like, 15 bucks that stops the problem, as well as most other pop ups. Its called Zero Popup. Give it a shot. It has a free trial. And it works.

20 million fixes
First of all, stop using Internet Explorer. Just stop. I've been after you forever to switch to something else! Mozilla 1.7, Firefox, Opera, Avant, Netscape. Anything else. Now if you do for some odd reason want to use IE, do you have the google toolbar? Built in pop-up blocker. Enough said. Pop This! would also be another thing to look into. It works from within IE. It's simple but surely gets the job done. Spyware is an ongoing process with IE. I used to use a program called Hijack Blaster to help out. I found a better program with more features and overall better performance. It's called SpywareGuard by Javacool Software. It's a real time guard. Example being your virus protection detecting a virus before it has a chance to execute on your machine. This uses the same concept except with spyware. Another great program would be SpywareBlaster. The way SpywareBlaster works is by disabling Active-X controls that are notorious for spyware and therefore prevents installation of the spyware. Active-X for IE will still work perfectly. Its just you won't be prompted to any known spyware Active-X controls. Then there is the infamous Hijackthis, but those other programs would definitely cover all that ground already. Most of these items can be found at www.spychecker.com. SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard can be found at www.javacoolsoftware.com. Really have to commend those guys for putting out great software to help us out and even better, for free. All the programs I listed are freeware. Freeware rocks: Ad-Aware, Spybot: Search and Destroy, AVG virus software, and Zone Alarm. If you really want IE, use those following suggestions. My advice is to switch browsers. Firefox is awesome, make it the default and IE won't receive information for pop-ups. The only reason IE is useful is for downloading those ever so important and frequent Windows Updates. So switch browsers, apply my recommended fixes, and just run some knoppix man. It'll be ok, you can get through this...haha.
