It was good :) I think in the past I have been too harsh in my judgement of previous concerts and operas and stuff. I still know that I REALLY DON'T LIKE LA TRAVIATA... But maybe I was too hard on Otello and Pearlfishers and stuff. Anyway. The opera part of Jenufa wasn't that great. Janacek wasn't that tuneful in his composing :P It's not like a G&S where you're gonna come out singing the tunes.... it was kinda all over the place. But the orchestra music was pretty cool -- like Anton said. WIERD: the program listed 8 horns (Anton, Saul, Vicky, Lisa, Michael, Heath and two others I've never seen before) but only 4 played. So I wonder if they do half a show each... or maybe they alternate shows... Probably ~1/4 through Act II there was this really cool syncopated horn section THING that I liked. I wonder if Janacek wrote Jenufa with a particular soprano in mind... because the part of Jenufa often had quite low stuff... so maybe she had a wide range. there was quite a bit of chest voice and around the changeover.... with orchestra mf around the same pitch... So there was a bit of stuff you couldn't hear. Elizabeth Whitehouse, the Kostelnicka (lol did I spell that right?, yes I did) was REALLY GOOD last night. lol For some reason she reminded me of Mrs Raven from My Hero. LULZ! Richard Hickox is a bit of a knob. All conductors are pretty knobbish... But I don't like him because he doesn't like David Hobson's voice and hence doesn't put him in roles. GUYS: writing him "angrygrams" or whatever isn't going to do anything. THOUGH I REALLY DO WANT TO KNOW WHY DAVID ISN'T IN THE 50TH BIRTHDAY BENIFIT CONCERT. :( :( :( :( :( ...holy shit! $850!!! I CAN'T REMEMBER THE ENGLISH GUY'S NAME. But he's playing in Handel's Julius Caesar.. ZOMGBBQ. So looking forward to Pirates next Thursday. WOO!!!!! aaaanyway. Best be going 0 Comments.
