Memorial service of a stillborn baby
Thursday. 3.6.08 11:02 pm
for the first time in my life, I went with my family to attend the memorial service of a 14 weeks old fetus (child) who passed away recently in his mother's womb.

to most people in the world, he would not be considered as a person who lived as he has no birth certificate nor death certificate. However, to us who cherish lives and believe that every life began right from the fertilisation of the egg and not just when the child is born, he did lived and bought joy to the family for a brief moment before he died to be with the Lord. His death did not catch his parents by surprise because we recognise that everyone of us has to die one day but the timing of his death came far sooner than expected...

tears flow, hymns of praise and adoration to God lingered in the air as the fetus who was kept in a small, beautiful box was lowered into the grave before flowers, teddy bears from his older siblings were tossed in as a gift to their younger brother who did not have a chance to meet them in this life...

Yet, we are glad because we know that they will all eventually meet again one day in the new heaven and earth, where God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be anguish nor grief nor pain any more...

The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord!
