Virtual Reality: $80. Getting a life: FREE.
Wednesday, Afternoon
Video games these days are getting more realistic and feature many true-to-life incidents. Nowadays, you can simulate being a train operator, being a fighter jet ace, or owning a restaurant. Hell, you can simulate your whole life with The Sims. Here's my question: Why don't you get a damn life and do this stuff for real instead of wasting time playing some shitty game?

Actually, The Sims is a perfect example. You sit there and watch a person get hungry or have to piss, and you make them do all these things, while you're so attached to the screen that you piss your own pants. And what's most ironic is actually getting a job in the game. You sign up for a job and get money for working.. Why the hell would you work in a game? If you're going to go through the hassle of getting a job, why not actually do it and get paid in real money that you can use to better your life? What the hell is wrong with you?

I also hate how people get so incredibly skilled at a stupid game and then boast about it like anybody really gives a shit. Check this link out: Asshole Playing Music. If you're too lazy to look, basically what it shows is some loser who perfected a classical piece on some crappy, obscure arcade game that nobody has ever heard of. When I saw this, my "What the fuck?" alarm sounded instantaneously. This loser spent weeks, maybe months perfecting this, when he could have been learning it on the piano. That would have been cool, but he turned an otherwise remarkable accomplishment into some shitty novelty trick.

Another example is a personal experience of mine. While playing Metal Gear Solid 2 I realized you can do pullups on a ledge, and every hundred you do your grip level increases, and thus you can hang longer. After I was sitting there for about a half hour doing this, I thought to myself, "What the hell am I doing? I could be doing real pullups instead." Doing real pullups would have increased my personal strength, not some fictional loser's; Thus, this made me realize what a waste playing the game was, so I proceeded to sit around idly somewhere else. That's beside the point, though.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is that virtual reality is going to destroy the human race, and possibly the world. In the future, there will undoubtedly be some awesome game where you can do anything you can do in real life, and thus people will not live in real life anymore. First, business companies will make transactions and deal with people through this virtual system, but soon enough, everybody will be in this "matrix" and will forget that the real world even exists. Suddenly, people will be dropping dead by the score, and the others will wonder what the hell is going on. I'll tell you what's happening, you bloody bastard. You're starving to death, because all this virtual food you're eating really isn't going to your stomach, jackass. Wake up and get a life you pathetic loser. And stop calling me.

*real comment*
If this were to go on, everyone would get into it. [yes, even mom and dad! the government would say it's good for taxes or something like that.]
So much so that that would be all they do. So whenever they are away from the screen, they're talking to their buds about what an awesome day they had on the game. Eventually, they'll get bored of doing that, [what for? You can talk to 'em on the game!] they'll just stop talking altogether.

Then all the money-less people will go about taking everyone's stuff, because everyone's too busy for the game, while the bums can't afford them, so they're free to roam.

That's what I was thinking while I was actually reading your entry.
I'm done now.

crazy...that'd be weird if everything that happened in life happened in video games because then people could get confused on whats reality. truly scary!
» 2%milk on 2004-06-02 07:10:51

Perhaps this is why I like puzzle games.
» tourmalinedtiger (65.4.7.187) on 2004-06-02 07:17:45

» lifeisabitch on 2004-06-02 10:26:47

what ever happened to the pacman and simple mario bros? now its too confusing with the 3D and simulations..
» dis1girl (24.165.22.125) on 2004-06-02 10:27:47

...
wow, i'm wasting my time reading this when i could ACTUALLY be reading something... wait... i am. Now i'm really confused.
» JINX!!! on 2004-06-03 12:16:50

Haha, Good point JINX!!!. The internet is like a big video game, and all the people you talk to are like characters in the story, because you will probably never meet them in real life.
» le_battement on 2004-06-03 06:02:39

Intersting entry... I never liked games like the sims... I'd rather be playing Quake 3... I don't think I could rocket jump in real life........ or could i....
» Zig_Justice on 2004-06-03 06:09:11

um.... no
i dont think jinx had a good point and no the universe is not a huge video game. you have already started to confuse real life with the virtual realm. you do meet them in real life because who ever your talking to really exists and so do you... your both real and your both alive.. therefore REAL-LIFE but video games are based upon somebody's imagination.. it just so happens the who ever thought of the sims was a total loser who has to make out with virtual dates because he/she cant get any in real-life. and seriously how many people really want to do real pull ups? most of the fat ass americans that blow money on video games arent about to buff up the bodies. most of them will be to busy sucking down greese ball burgers for 59 cents and snorting cheeze wiz up their nose... remember when your talking about the avarge american consumer whore your not talking about the most intelligent class of people. you may also want to consider that half of the population is stupider than the avarage.. thats probably the reason media is so powerful

» peterpanrox09 on 2004-06-03 10:14:45

Games i like,
Well, its illegal to shoot people, so its safe to play halo online. And i could never be an Elf, Orc, or Undead thingy. So I gues Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne is safe, but waht about the human race...? I can't really explain that. Ah yes! They kill people too, which I cant (legally ... well if I could get away with it... nevermind) do either. So there, the only two games I ever play are justified. I like pizza. ... Just a thought.
» JINX!!! on 2004-06-04 12:24:18

oh yeah
monkeymeister, no one snorts cheez whiz up there nose and its hard now days to fine a burger as reasonablly priced as 59¢
Thank you, ill be here all week.
» JINX!!! on 2004-06-04 12:27:34

I'd agree
I just spent about three hours of my life beating orcish hordes to death, thinking I only spent about a half an hour. Maybe I'm skinny because I don't eat, even though I always just thought I had a high metabolic rate.
» desertsnowstorm on 2004-06-04 03:04:34

my opinion
your post reminds me of that wonderful time computers became avaliable to the public. it was said that people would turn into a pile of "mush" because they were sitting with the world at their fingertips. now it is seen as one of the greatest things of our time. and no one has turned to "mush". but i do agree that video games tend to trap their players in a world of fantasy. it often causes the person to lose touch with what is real. on the otherhand even einstien frequently forgot to eat, sleep, or use the restroom while working on the theory of relativity.
» mysticpoet on 2004-06-04 12:22:15

vaguely related
"oh, *insert random friends name here*, life has been so wretched recently. just yesterday so..." -gets cut off and interuppted- "yeah, i know, i read your xanga" -conversation continues on about the weather" that's just part of this whole problem... does it bother anyone else?
» painless on 2004-06-04 05:38:37

wow I just started using noono.net instead of my old image server... it's alot better like you said
» Zig_Justice on 2004-06-05 01:28:29

jinx,
the food was not the point, it was and exageration to show the stupid thing people do these days intead because they are to lazy to get up and make something that wont clog their arteries

» surfswimskate622 on 2004-06-06 08:32:46

I've played The Sims, and I actually enjoyed it. I know, I need a life.
» eXiled on 2004-06-08 03:16:56

Yeah, I played it and enjoyed it as well.. But that doesn't make it right. =(

No, PlatinumPistol, I am not Jet. This template is simply honoring the band.
» le_battement on 2004-06-08 06:03:24

well, absolutely nothing.
i would most certainly agree. but let me tell you, i spent quite some time perfecting my mastery of Uncle Worm, and Tetris, on the calculator. It took me some time during my german class, but i finally managed it. my hand eye coordination and skills with the calculator will hopefully one day enable me to become an excellent doctor in africa..erm..playing calculator games with the children. yes, that's it. that's all i have to say now. you are one sexy beast.

Okay, damn, I got the point. I don't agree with you about the dirty bastard thing, but I do accept that I'm one sexy beast.
» le_battement on 2004-06-09 06:01:21

The only reason you're probably doing better is because we lack equipment! We're not done yet thought.
» JINX!!! on 2004-06-09 08:02:57

Sexy Beast huh?
So you're a sexy beast? Then where does that leave me?!

» pubey the hair (68.40.58.114) on 2004-06-09 11:44:01

Yes, it's wonderful.
» le_battement on 2004-06-10 06:03:02

you're right about the games... driving cars when you can do that in real life, making theme parks when you live like a couple hours away... living a pixelized person's life... the thing that doesn't really seem to waste time are those things that are more fiction like those RPG games, action games like whatever...the thing about games like SOCOM and that is... a lot of people begin to think "Oh, so that's how fighting in the Navy Seals is? Okay, I'll join" They might hate it and regret it, but I heard that the best people (or on eof the best) plays video games so that's why they're the best...i guess...wow now i'm starting to get random here...
» Ajibalaji89 on 2004-06-12 07:22:53

No, RPG games are the worst, because it puts you into a fantasy world where you complete tasks and get rid of evil in the world, stupid crap like that.. Go do some real good for the world, and get a job. Action games are bad, too, because you're damned sure to get better at shooting by shooting a real gun at a practice course than on a video game.
» le_battement on 2004-06-12 07:37:57

I think
..so stand back so I don't get any on ya.. I think video games, like, say dreaming, have thier place. I think dreams are, for the most part, given tyo us so we can deal with unsolved issues that we have come across in our waking state. Games, at their best, give us a release from tension and stress, something that we can make some headway with. But, when games-and dreams- become a substitute for reality, it stunyts our growth... (just one old man's opinion...)
» rockie on 2004-06-13 11:56:41

When I first played the sims I had a slight addiction. And then I pretty much had this blog in my head and never played again. Sims is nice though because you can kill people and it's funny. It's not funny to kill people IRL... generally.
