We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Somehow the little petty issues in my life come up decidedly short against the grand struggle these brave men and women of an earlier era put up valiantly with. And for that, I salute thee. War is indeed such a cruel affair - the result of political intrigue and masked ambitions played out in battlefields all over the world between people whom, if left in peace, actually have no issue with one another. To all my friends, do cherish the fact that our generation actually got to grow up untroubled by the ravages of war that plagued our forefathers. Our time here is indeed too short for us to get too bogged down by things which look oh so insignificant on hindsight. The guards from SAFMPC who braved the countless standing parades, drills et al. in order to execute that perfect tafaku on the 14th in front of so many distinguished guests, war veterans as well as the whole Command.
